Or Bras for that matter. I've got a washing line for the first time ever but what is the done thing?

Yes! If my neighbours have nothing better to do than look at our undies, they lead veeeeeery sad lives!!!

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 27/06/2024 11:37

Yep and my fake boob (single mastectomy!). Don't think anyone is remotely interested in my washing.

OnTheRightSideOfGeography · 27/06/2024 11:37

This is a simple case of common decency and having basic respect for your neighbours.

By all means begin by hanging out your smalls, but if any of the other households object to this for any reason, you must desist forthwith and thenceforth only hang outer garments in places where they can be seen by them.

Do you hang knickers on the line?
HillsideFarm · 27/06/2024 11:51

I don't - but only because when I lived in Leeds many years ago we had a local prolific knicker botherer (he would leave them on the line but provide a 'gift') he would also steal them on occasion.

When he was arrested he had loads of them in the house.

migraineagain · 27/06/2024 11:53

I only get a load a week so from the washer to the tumble all done and packed away in about an hour and half.

Bumply · 27/06/2024 12:51

I don't, but that's because it's shared drying area and in full view of the ground floor flat.

Not because I'm ashamed of my underwear, more that I wouldn't like that to be my view if I was in that flat.

2Rebecca · 27/06/2024 12:57

Yes of course I hang them out, no idea why you put this as a vote as it isn't framed as an AIBU question

LakieLady · 27/06/2024 13:24

Of course! Everyone wears pants, I see nothing shameful in hanging them out to dry.

Ottervision · 27/06/2024 13:28

Yep. On a socktopus!

OnTheRightSideOfGeography · 27/06/2024 13:32

local prolific knicker botherer

Wow, imagine that in your CV - or indeed on your gravestone!

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 27/06/2024 13:36

Yep. And my washable pads. Used to hang washable nappies and wipes on the line too. If my neighbours don't like it then they don't have to look

Mintearo7 · 26/06/2024 21:47

I actually just lay mine around the edge of the washing basket with the socks, and leave outside. They dry fine like that and it’s not as easy to see as it’s lower down. It’s not just to hide them though, I became a bit lazy with using pegs for fiddly things when this works just as well.

Ooh yes, I do this! I’m a shortarse and can’t be bothered stretching for loads of pants and socks so I lie them on the chairs and round the washing basket (and flip over after a while to dry other side) it works well!
Also agree with PP about tumble dryers doing bad things to good pants😳

missshilling · 27/06/2024 14:05

It seems like this same question gets asked at least once a fortnight.

Everygrain · 27/06/2024 14:14

Is this just women's underwear that s under question, what about men's pants

Ladyj84 · 27/06/2024 14:16

Before kids everything was hung out but now chuck underwear and socks in dryer as there's so many of us

Notthatcatagain · 27/06/2024 14:19

My mum was just the same and as for going out without stocking in the summer, WELL!!! she would have fainted😂

Waitingfordoggo · 27/06/2024 16:34

I do, but I’m not completely immune to self-consciousness about my undercrackers as I discovered once on a German campsite when I went to the laundry room to collect my washing to find a German man kindly folding my clothes, including pants (he needed to use the machine and my load had finished sometime before). I was mortified for some reason and I could tell he thought I was an uptight Brit as I thanked him briskly, grabbed my laundry and fled. My German friend laughed at me when I told her that story because to her it was a very ordinary thing to happen and there was no reason to be embarrassed about a man you’ve never met before handling your underwear 😂

penelopelady · 26/06/2024 21:20

Yes, get a octopus hanger thing for small items.

Known as a socktopus in our house.

TheButteredBiscuit · 27/06/2024 16:56

No I put knickers and vests on the radiators

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 27/06/2024 16:56

Londonrach1 · 26/06/2024 21:22

Yes ..I don't have a flag pole so it have to be the washing line...

😆

Bignanna · 27/06/2024 17:01

Surprised so many still use tumble dryers- a very expensive way of drying clothes!

Bignanna · 27/06/2024 17:02

Years ago my Mum told me off for hanging her knickers on the line! She didn’t like the fact that neighbours might judge her for her choice of bloomers!

Glitterblue · 27/06/2024 17:26

Yes, our garden is really private but I still hang them by just one peg rather than properly, so you can’t really see what they are.

BMW6 · 27/06/2024 17:36

Hang your pants etc on your line without any shame!

Everyone wears pants. They all get washed. They are not a Shameful Secret.

Let your gussets flap away!

Justleaveitblankthen · 27/06/2024 18:29

Yes, but I keep them at the top end, so you would have to be really spying to spot them.

Years ago, when I lived in a terrace with a back yard, I had roughly 10 wonderbra's stolen 🤬

They must have been stalking my back Kibble and reached over to grab a handful
(sorry 🤭)

I had them in all colours, purple being my favourite 😂 and washed them by hand once a fortnight.

I was bloody livid.. am still fuming 35 years later..
