Do you hang knickers on the line?

Or Bras for that matter. I've got a washing line for the first time ever but what is the done thing?

Yes. Very few people can see into my garden, but even when I lived somewhere where it was more public, it all went on the line.

Pandaandpurple · 26/06/2024 21:43

No, I pop them on the heated airer inside. Although to be honest I couldn’t tell you if any of the neighbours do it, so the likelihood is no one really cares about my washing line. I always hope my neighbours notice my impeccable clothes hanging skills and use of matching pegs every time though! 😀

Yes, get a octopus hanger thing for small items.

I wish my knickers were small! I’m not sure they would dry on my octopus, they need hanging out like towels 🤣

LizzieSiddal · 26/06/2024 21:44

Yes but only if we’re not having visitors. 😂

Saintmariesleuth · 26/06/2024 21:44

Yup, everything (including underwear) hangs on the washing line if the weather allows.
My garden is overlooked on all sides and I couldn't care less.

Ioverslept · 26/06/2024 21:45

Yes, if course! it is the best way to dry them in dry weather as in the tumble dryer the fabrics and elastics in particular deteriorate more quickly and drying indoors takes longer and causes damp and mould and is not so hygienic.

Vandercandour · 26/06/2024 21:45

One peg in the side seam, like my Apple catchers to flap in the wind

Poolstream · 26/06/2024 21:46

Yes. But I don’t leave them out overnight or they’ll be darked on.

Bohomovies · 26/06/2024 21:46

No. Our line is visible from the road. I put underwear on a fold-out dryer thing and hide it round the corner out of sight!

Mintearo7 · 26/06/2024 21:47

I actually just lay mine around the edge of the washing basket with the socks, and leave outside. They dry fine like that and it’s not as easy to see as it’s lower down. It’s not just to hide them though, I became a bit lazy with using pegs for fiddly things when this works just as well.

LadyKenya · 26/06/2024 21:47

No, and I never will.

RobertaFirmino · 26/06/2024 21:47

Yes, of course I do. Knickers are not shameful.

Londonrach1 · 26/06/2024 21:22

Yes ..I don't have a flag pole so it have to be the washing line...

This is brilliant, and how i am going to answer any future question of this nature.

TheHateIsNotGood · 26/06/2024 21:47

Yes. As an aside does anyone remember when getting your 'knickers' stolen off the line was a thing? I remember it happening to our family's knickers as a teenager in the 1970s in Surrey and in the late 1980s in a Melbourne suburb, but they only took one pair, annoyingly one of my favourites and not sexy or lacy at all. Just a black bikini bottom that made better knickers.

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/06/2024 21:48

What's with the pants threads tonight.

DamnNutella · 26/06/2024 21:48

Today I just had 7 period pants hanging on my rotary line, black, blue and pink. I don’t care what the neighbours think. It’s my garden

CaptainOliviaBenson · 26/06/2024 21:49

Yes. I have a rotary line so underwear goes on the inside and clothes/everything else on the outside so it can't be seen, as my garden is completely overlooked by neighbours' gardens and the car park.

AmelieTaylor · 26/06/2024 21:49

Swinglower · 26/06/2024 21:23

I do exactly the same.

Me too, partly because of the size issue (the other neighbours are slim wee things with tiny triangles) but also because the dry so quickly whereas the jeans t shirts etc go on the outside as they need to.

Well, there’s not much on the telly if you don’t like football…

Thepeopleversuswork · 26/06/2024 21:50

My ex husband used to tell me off for doing this: he said it made the back garden look like a favela

I doubled down on it after we split up and invested in a special knicker tree. One of the sweeter moments of my life post marriage :)

pizzaHeart · 26/06/2024 21:50

Knickers and bras - no, as it’s not really convenient for me, they are talking up too much space. I usually wash knickers and bras in small batches and put them on over radiator dryer, they dry out very quickly.
period pants - yes,
DH’s boxer shorts - yes.

BillyNoMates9 · 26/06/2024 21:51

Yes of course. The neighbours can see from their upstairs window but I assume my knickers aren't interesting enough for them to stare at and scrutinise.

Berlinlover · 26/06/2024 21:51

I don’t dry any of my clothes on the line because a bird always poos on them or they get covered in spiders.

Zanatdy · 26/06/2024 21:51

Yes, but I have one of those little things you hang them all from so easier to bring in if starts raining

Swinglower · 26/06/2024 21:52

thats my thinking too. Special occasion underwear hangs inside though.
