most of us would steal a million from a big multinational if we knew we'd get away with it

I would. I would also steal from some individuals, like Sunak, or other multimillionaires.

OP posts:
AnneLovesGilbert · 22/06/2024 21:40

No

Scammersarescum · 22/06/2024 21:41

You justify your immorality to yourself however you please, but personally I'm not a thief

OccasionalHope · 22/06/2024 21:41

Well no, I hope ‘most of us’ wouldn’t be fundamentally dishonest.

SirWalterElliot · 22/06/2024 21:42

I'd steal a million from a multi-billionaire if I knew I'd get away with it AND I knew no-one else would get in trouble.

Nouvellenovel · 22/06/2024 21:43

I’ve too much Catholic guilt. However I wouldn’t judge you op.

coldcallerbaiter · 22/06/2024 21:43

Op then a developing world person should steal £10000 from you, and not worry about it, after all you are several times more wealthy than them…

Jc2001 · 22/06/2024 21:45

So what would you do with this million quid you stole then?

CreamStick · 22/06/2024 21:45

A lot of multi millionaires came from very humble beginnings and built their fortune from scratch . So no I wouldn't.

LadyFeatheringt0n · 22/06/2024 21:45

I am in a position where due to my job i probably could and no, i never would!

Theft is theft. Doesn't matter who you steal from, stealing is wrong. I would not do this.

andtheendwasgone · 22/06/2024 21:46

Urmmm no

Wtf. I hope you don't work in finance or banking

CorylusAgain · 22/06/2024 21:46

I wouldn't.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 22/06/2024 21:47

I'd be fascinated to know how you'd go about doing that. You do realise that the millions aren't cash in the bank that you can withdraw from an ATM, right?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 22/06/2024 21:48

Jc2001 · 22/06/2024 21:45

So what would you do with this million quid you stole then?

Buys you a halfway decent house where I live. Some people have no ambition.

thistimelastweek · 22/06/2024 21:49

Nope.

Theft is theft.

Arlanymor · 22/06/2024 21:51

No. Theft involves guile and dishonestly, even if there is no chance of getting caught. It’s immoral and deprives others of what is rightfully theirs.

Benshawsberries · 22/06/2024 21:51

No

TomeTome · 22/06/2024 21:53

No I’m not a thief

raspberryberet7 · 22/06/2024 21:54

Nobody on mumsnet will admit to this!

Whatthefuck3456 · 22/06/2024 21:57

il admit it, yes OP I would! Currently thinking what I would then do with money!

StepUpSlowly · 22/06/2024 22:01

Would you be okay with people stealing a fair chunk of money from you? If you would be outraged at someone stealing from you (which I assume you would be), why do you feel fine with stealing from others?!

You are likely more wealthy than a good chunk of the world population, even if you were to be generally broke per UK standards. Is it okay to steal from anyone wealthier, just because you feel/think/assume they won’t notice/miss it?

That’s the same logic African con men use in their dating scams, where they don’t even feel bad about stealing from often broke & lonely western folks just aiming to find love, because they see them as much richer than them and themselves as more needing/worthy of the money and most of the time nothing happens to them.

So no I wouldn’t do it. I know someone who has (several millions in fact) and got arrested and is currently in jail. Just as he should. He seemed like such a decent non-money oriented man and I am completely floored he did that. And while I am devastated for his kids, I am GLAD he was caught. Wouldn’t want to live in a world where people can get away from stealing millions from others for no reason at all other than jealousy? /feeling entitled to other people’s money?

Gazelda · 22/06/2024 22:02

I wouldn't.

Firstly, because it's wrong.

Secondly, because someone, somewhere would suffer. Likely the head of accounts, or the auditors, or the chief warehouse operator or ....

It wouldn't go uninvestigated. Someone would be made accountable. Many people would be working extra hours and having sleepless nights while trying to balance the books and find the discrepancy.

Thirdly because it's immoral to take something that isn't yours without the permission of the whoever it belongs to.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 22/06/2024 22:04

Yep, definitely, if I 💯 knew I’d get away with it.
not from an individual though, unless they were a multi billionaire.
id buy a nice house with it, give some to charity, some to my kids.

whyarechipssotasty · 22/06/2024 22:06

Naw I wouldn't but wouldn't judge you much. My older brother worked for years for one in Inverclyde in the 90s and it went bust and the whole place was devasted . Never really recovered from that and other examples of deindustrialisation/silicon valley buggering off elsewhere. Not good.

OhNoFloyd · 22/06/2024 22:07

My dad once found himself in a position where he could have stolen multiple millions from his company. Apparently he and my mum stayed up late into the night planning how they'd get away with it. But in the end they decided that they didn't want to live on the run for the rest of their lives. So my dad went to work the next day and reported the security issue...

ThoseDarnCrows · 22/06/2024 22:08

Speak for yourself, I wouldn't.
