most of us would steal a million from a big multinational if we knew we'd get away with it

I would. I would also steal from some individuals, like Sunak, or other multimillionaires.

I wouldn’t be able to live with the guilt.

No, I wouldn't. I like to have a clear conscience. You only abide by the law in case you're caught, rather than doing what's right? I don't care how wealthy they are/ how big a company it is. It's theft.
The only way I'd get money from them is by charging a lot for something I was selling to them.

this i can agree with, if you know they can afford it and its something they want eg information etc then you can put a higher price tag on it

ForGreyKoala · 22/06/2024 22:58

Speak for yourself. No, I wouldn't do it.

Thisbastardcomputer · 22/06/2024 22:59

I'd never dream of taking a penny from someone else's bank account and my job gave me ample opportunity to do so. I consider my money to be money and everyone else's Monopoly money.

is that profit after expenses or before ?

Not sure I understand the question. Profit is reported after expenses otherwise that would be just Revenue.

i guess then, its good business

pandasorous · 22/06/2024 23:01

gosh the fun police are out tonight. I assume OP made the thread in jest

for myself, I would be happy to steal from a corporation - depending on which one it was - no qualms taking such cash from someone like Elon, or one of the oil shaykhs (less money for them to spend on debauchery). but I would give it to charity.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/06/2024 23:02

I would. As long as I knew I'd get away with it I'd have no problem relieving Tesla, Amazon, Nestlé, Kraft, Shell etc of a million quid.🤷‍♀️

mondaytosunday · 22/06/2024 23:03

No I would not.

crackofdoom · 22/06/2024 23:03

I would, in a heartbeat. And give most of it away to small charities/ worthy causes. If we're talking hypothetically (as we are),I would do it again, and again, and again, too. I would steal a million from the guy who owns Pornhub and give it to Women's Aid and charities helping trafficked women. I would steal a million from a property developer and give it to Shelter and homeless charities. I would steal a million from an oil company and give it to organisations fighting climate change. Etcetera.

EmmaOvary · 22/06/2024 23:03

A big multinational probably did steal the money it built up. You ever seen The Founder, about the beginnings of McDonald’s as a corporation? Amazon pays its workers peanuts and is a massive tax dodge. And on and on.

That is a brilliant idea.Grin

I'm trying to think of the appropriate charities to give the money to if I relieved Jeff Bezos of a million? Trade unions I guess 🤔

Circumferences · 22/06/2024 23:10

I guess the real problem is "if you knew you'd never get caught"

No one can ever know that- unless you're a member of the Met Police / crime family type of person. Those people can get away with high level theft, and do.

The rest of us will get a knock on the door for dropping a mini wine bottle in your bag by mistake.

Normal people can't steal millions and get away with it.

AutieAdult · 22/06/2024 23:11

Gazelda · 22/06/2024 22:02

I wouldn't.

Firstly, because it's wrong.

Secondly, because someone, somewhere would suffer. Likely the head of accounts, or the auditors, or the chief warehouse operator or ....

It wouldn't go uninvestigated. Someone would be made accountable. Many people would be working extra hours and having sleepless nights while trying to balance the books and find the discrepancy.

Thirdly because it's immoral to take something that isn't yours without the permission of the whoever it belongs to.

This - someone would suffer due to the loss, quite possibly an individual employee as scapegoat rather than the company that designed the security system.

Mumoftwo1316 · 22/06/2024 23:11

It's ignorant to think that would be a victimless crime. When a big corporation goes bust or even just downsizes, huge numbers of Everymen lose their livelihoods, pensions, etc.

Guavafish1 · 22/06/2024 23:12

wrong

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 22/06/2024 23:14

OperationDinnerout · 22/06/2024 22:55

but how many could you trust, then how many would know the plan vs individuals knowing parts of the puzzle incase anyone got cold feet or got busted

Ha! Yes we'd have to create some kind of complex multi layered circle of trust wouldn't we. Although as anonymous randoms meeting on the internet this might be quite easy to do? The perfect crime if you will 🤣

itsprettyoutside · 22/06/2024 23:15

I come into contact with significant sums of money through work but no, I wouldn't. Firstly, it's wrong but secondly this stuff always has a way of catching up with you...even if you think you 'got away with it'.

I only want money that has come to me through honest means.

MrsMitford3 · 22/06/2024 23:16

It's a no from me

I do have a moral compass

its like making a cuppa tea, a couple of people that know the full plan and everyone else has different parts eg

1, gets milk
2 gets tea bags
3 gets sugar
4 gets the kettle
5 gets the cup
6 gets the spoon

then at set times they drop the items off at x location
then someone collects the items and takes them to x warehouse etc

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 22/06/2024 23:21

It's a plan @OperationDinnerout. Jeff Bezos watch your back!! (And your bank cards)

justasking111 · 22/06/2024 23:22

Hahaha. No Catholic guilt.

I've known four women who did rob their business. Two women worked in showroom garages, two in building societies.

None of the cases went to court. One of the women her husband was also stealing from his place of work.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/06/2024 23:26

Of course I would

If no one was harmed by it and I couldn't be caught

Why shouldn't I also join a group of people who don't deserve their money 😂

RubberyChicken · 22/06/2024 23:30

It's just wrong. You wouldn't steal a handbag. You wouldn't steal a car. You wouldn't steal a baby. You wouldn't shoot a policeman and then steal his helmet. You wouldn't go to the toilet in his helmet and then send it to the policeman's grieving widow. And then steal it again!
