most of us would steal a million from a big multinational if we knew we'd get away with it

I would. I would also steal from some individuals, like Sunak, or other multimillionaires.

I probably would yes.

uhOhOP · 22/06/2024 22:08

Oh, OP, is this you trying to get us all fighting about the haves and the have nots? Do you want us to say that multimillionaires deserve what they get? That they haven't earned their money? That they should share their wealth?

I think "most of us" are not thieves.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 22/06/2024 22:09

I would too. Morality is a luxury for the rich. None of these hugely rich people have actually earned their personal wealth. It's almost all luck. I would steal it in a heartbeat (whilst never leaving anyone without the financial means to feed and house themselves)

Buys you a halfway decent house where I live. Some people have no ambition.

Except you then have to prove where the money came from.

Universalsnail · 22/06/2024 22:15

As long as I definitely wouldn't get caught and there would be zero consequences to the theft then I wouldn't think twice about it, not just from big corporations but also from billionaires.

In reality though I can't think of a situation where I could possibly be 100 percent confident enough to be sure I would get away with it and if I wasn't 100 percent confident then it wouldn't be worth the life long anxiety I'd have to live with over it. So I wouldn't do it.

romdowa · 22/06/2024 22:16

If I was guaranteed to get away with it then I'd probably take more tbh

You'd be able to afford enough therapy to easily get over it lol 😁

DinnaeFashYersel · 22/06/2024 22:20

No.

People will still get hurt.

ByCupidStunt · 22/06/2024 22:21

I totally would

OrwellianTimes · 22/06/2024 22:22

No I wouldn’t.

MILTOBE · 22/06/2024 22:22

So would you steal on a personal level, eg if you were working for someone incredibly wealthy and saw they'd left something incredibly expensive behind and would never suspect you of having it, eg a very expensive ring or watch that couldn't be tracked back to you?

If you would do that, would you use their cash card to take out cash if you knew they would never find out?

How personal would you get?

MILTOBE · 22/06/2024 22:22

I wouldn't do those things, by the way! Just wondering how far the OP would go.

RosesAndHellebores · 22/06/2024 22:28

No, because I was brought up not to take what isn't mine. It's called stealing. There are consequences even if you aren't caught.

This is a great question! Even reading it makes me feel guilty as I hadn't thought about the actual act of stealing. I would happily take a million pounds from a billionaire. And I wouldn't feel guilty. But the actual act of thieving makes me uncomfortable.

For me I couldn't steal anything of sentimental value like jewellery. That breaks my thieves charter 😁 but yes I think I would take a cash card to steal cash. Knowing that they have so much money they would likely not even notice.

Eeeden · 22/06/2024 22:34

I would not. Even if I was desperate I wouldn't. It would not be worth the excruciating anxiety it would cause me.

SirWalterElliot · 22/06/2024 22:36

coldcallerbaiter · 22/06/2024 21:43

Op then a developing world person should steal £10000 from you, and not worry about it, after all you are several times more wealthy than them…

Stealing 1m from Jeff Bezos would be like stealing less than £1 from me. Genuinely, I just did the maths.

Ah but then I'll have told someone and you can't tell anyone because thats an open gap in the don't get caught plan 😂

SirWalterElliot · 22/06/2024 22:39

Although to ease the guilt I'd have to give most of the million away... I'd still do it though!

Hmmm, no, not personal, like something someone owned personally - maybe a diamond ring, in "impersonal" circumstances, such as they are transporting a big cargo of diamond rings across country and one falls out of their vehicle into my trouser turn up as I am cycling along side them...... no cctv - yes, I would certainly keep it, sell it, enjoy the money....

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 22/06/2024 22:42

No, I wouldn't. I like to have a clear conscience. You only abide by the law in case you're caught, rather than doing what's right? I don't care how wealthy they are/ how big a company it is. It's theft.
The only way I'd get money from them is by charging a lot for something I was selling to them.

NoseNothing · 22/06/2024 22:46

Shell made £22.3bn in profit last year. £1m of that is 0.0045% of that.

To put that into perspective. I have about £50k in savings. 0.0045% of that is £2.25 I think. Literally less than a cup of coffee.

So yes, I would take it if I could guarantee I would never be caught. It’s pocket change to them.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 22/06/2024 22:48

Well I think there's enough immoral people on here for us to be able to arrange a fairly large heist 😂

OperationDinnerout · 22/06/2024 22:53

@allmyown you would need a convincing way to launder the money, you couldn't just put it in a bank as too many red flags, then even with cash, if buying x items etc you would need to cover it up

is that profit after expenses or before ?

but how many could you trust, then how many would know the plan vs individuals knowing parts of the puzzle incase anyone got cold feet or got busted
