To think the never ending criticism of Rishi Sunak is rooted in racism?

I know he's not perfect as none of our politicians are! But I do feel like people are out to trip him up over personal things as much as possible. This Sky TV thing is Rodin my opinion - Rishi has never claimed to have had a difficult start or to have grown up in poverty. The journalist pressed him for what he went without in order that his parents could afford his private education and he said he always wanted Sky TV and never had it. He was saying it in a fairly lighthearted way he wasn't moaning or complaining!

People can't seem to handle the fact that he's wealthy and also the puns on his name and the claims he's "unpatriotic". I feel a little bit of thinly veiled racism creeping in.

I don’t blame Rishi. He is just a front for lots of clowns behind the curtain!

ll09sm · 12/06/2024 13:41

Are you name changing and starting multiple threads to just fuel race baiting?

Has it occurred to you that he may just be a moron? And an incompetent politician?

oneandmaybedone · 12/06/2024 13:42

You’re wrong, Liz Truss got as much (if not more) and so did David Cameron. Don’t be silly

mopopo · 12/06/2024 13:42

I think YABU. We are just fed up of out of touch mega rich PMs who only serve their own kind rather than thinking in the interest of the nation as a whole.

All his policies seem bunkum - Rwanda, National Service, Eat out to help out. He comes across as clueless and out of touch. This is unrelated to his race.

SeulementUneFois · 12/06/2024 13:42

Agree OP.
It's thinly veiled.

Cas112 · 12/06/2024 13:42

Are you the same person asking if Richi Sunak as a racist slur🙄give it up

FishPhoods · 12/06/2024 13:42

No I'm not name changing actually.

I think people are being unfairly critical and nitpicking over things that don't matter instead of focussing on the politics of it all. Why is he a moron? Why use language like that?

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 12/06/2024 13:42

Nope, it’s to do with how bad he is at his job.

Same for Liz Truss.

countrygirl99 · 12/06/2024 13:42

It's perfectly possible for people of any race or sex to be an incompetent PM. Johnson and Truss for example.

mopopo · 12/06/2024 13:43

Oh and I felt the same way about all the other Tory PMs!

Hoppinggreen · 12/06/2024 13:43

Nope.
I actually hate him slightly less than Truss and Johnson

FishPhoods · 12/06/2024 13:43

Liz Truss was well deserved criticism of her performance, David Cameron didn't have people trying to trip him up at every single opportunity like what we are seeing happening here.

The unpatriotic claims are made by the likes of Farage and his sycophants. It’s inevitably intended to be racist.

The general criticisms of him are not racist. They’re because he has been a crucial part of the most corrupt government this country has ever had. There was a very simple, honest answer he could have given about sacrifices. He could have owned his wealth and acknowledged how fortunate he was to be in a position of privilege. He didn’t. He tried to come across as relatable and instead just sounded entitled.

SaltBlossom · 12/06/2024 13:44

He's terrible at politics and has no clue about how real people live. That's why!

Magnastorm · 12/06/2024 13:44

It probably is, for some people.

Doesn't change the fact he is a fucking dreadful MP and PM though, just like the last, er, how many tory PMs have we had in the last few years now? I've lost count.

CluelessInBognor · 12/06/2024 13:45

I'm sure that a lot of it is just as a lot of criticism of Theresa May was fuelled by sexism.

That doesn't change the fact that both Rishi Sunak and Theresa May are amoral, opportunitistic, incompetent, populist chancers who should not be running the country.

I think he’s just the last Tory PM (probably for a while now) and people are a bit sick of what the tories have done.

ObsidianTree · 12/06/2024 13:45

Nope. Every politician/ prime minster gets a hard time.

If anything it's more to do with him being rich and out of touch

oomown · 12/06/2024 13:45

Like many politicians he is very out of touch and then does a cringe worthy job of trying to seem like he knows about the lives of ordinary people. Then the pretty awful situation with his wife's non-dom status was a very bad look for him. Then there is his politics which is ultimately not about making life better for the masses and a fairer society but is about making the rich richer, that is plainly evident in the policies he supports.

Is there a racist element? Perhaps I do think in this country when people dislike someone and they happen to be a person of colour then it is as if any legitimate reason to hate on them gets used as cover to let racist instincts run free I do think we saw that with people like Meghan Markle and Diane Abbott for example, so I perhaps you are right to some extent but to be totally honest the criticism of the man and his party is totally warranted.

Icepop79 · 12/06/2024 13:46

For what it’s worth, he comes across marginally better than many of the others. I save my full wrath for the likes of Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Gove, Truss, Braverman, Raab, Patel…

FishPhoods · 12/06/2024 13:46

I'm not saying he doesn't deserved to be criticised, and I'm sure a large proportion of what we see and read is people's genuine opinions based on his political values and record. But there's an element creeping in that makes me uncomfortable.

OP posts:
BiggerBoat1 · 12/06/2024 13:46

I blame him for being useless, for not understanding just how much people are struggling, for choosing to be the figurehead of a corrupt party that has consistently put their mates' interests ahead of the ordinary people who put them in their jobs, for accepting funding from a racist, for prioritising loyalty over talent so that we end up with a weak cabinet not fit to govern and for not caring about any of this.

The Sky TV thing is just symptomatic of so much else that is wrong with him.

WearyAuldWumman · 12/06/2024 13:46

Sunak is an arse, but Johnson was an even bigger one. I've only ever written to my MP to complain about one PM, and that was Johnson. However, I freely criticise Sunak.

At best, Sunak's decision to leave the D-Day commemorations was stupid. Not what we need in a PM. As for comments about his wealth, his "We didn't have Sky" reply shows just how out of touch with with ordinary people he really is.

[Also see: R Johnson's comment about Sainsbury's/ Lidl!]

Doseofreality · 12/06/2024 13:46

I think it’s more to do with him being a cunt than his race to be honest.

Me too. I can’t find it in myself to loathe Rishi. For one thing, I don’t feel he’s as slithery, narcissistic or just generally repulsive as MadLiz and Bozo.
