To think the never ending criticism of Rishi Sunak is rooted in racism?

I know he's not perfect as none of our politicians are! But I do feel like people are out to trip him up over personal things as much as possible. This Sky TV thing is Rodin my opinion - Rishi has never claimed to have had a difficult start or to have grown up in poverty. The journalist pressed him for what he went without in order that his parents could afford his private education and he said he always wanted Sky TV and never had it. He was saying it in a fairly lighthearted way he wasn't moaning or complaining!

People can't seem to handle the fact that he's wealthy and also the puns on his name and the claims he's "unpatriotic". I feel a little bit of thinly veiled racism creeping in.

For what it’s worth, he comes across marginally better than many of the others. I save my full wrath for the likes of Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Gove, Truss, Braverman, Raab, Patel…

^^This. He's just the latest in a long line of awful, out of touch Tory politicians. But there are far worse.

clarepetal · 12/06/2024 17:49

He's just a prick, nothing to do with the colour of his skin.

izimbra · 12/06/2024 17:54

"People can't seem to handle the fact that he's wealthy"

I think when a leader is advocating for ideologically driven policy that's decimating public services and resulting in really serious widespread suffering for the poorest and most vulnerable people in society, & they're doing so from a position of astonishing personal privilege - then yes, it is a bit bloody gross.

Echobelly · 12/06/2024 18:01

There's pretty outward racism coming from Reform and rightwards of that, but otherwise I think the criticism of him is entirely because he is incompetent and out of touch and there's nothing racist about criticising that.

ilovesooty · 12/06/2024 18:04

Icepop79 · 12/06/2024 13:43

The unpatriotic claims are made by the likes of Farage and his sycophants. It’s inevitably intended to be racist.

The general criticisms of him are not racist. They’re because he has been a crucial part of the most corrupt government this country has ever had. There was a very simple, honest answer he could have given about sacrifices. He could have owned his wealth and acknowledged how fortunate he was to be in a position of privilege. He didn’t. He tried to come across as relatable and instead just sounded entitled.

I agree with that. The allegations of being unpatriotic are designed to appeal to the racists who might vote Reform. The other stuff is simply about his inability to understand the experience of others and the fact that he's simply not an effective politician.

Didn’t notice. Great minds …

Yes there is a lot of racist comments being made about him often underhand which is something that just isn't acceptable. I think the criticism often comes from him being viewed as not really British, comments made about Johnson are often of a different tone regardless if they are positive or negative

Sunak certainly hasn't been a good PM he could have moved the party away from the right and more to the centre. He has followed two absolutely terrible PM's who for some reason he has not distanced himself from them enough but he isn't as bad as them

I am also not a Tory supporter, but he certainly is a better PM that Johnson or Truss

Yes. But then that’s a very very low bar.

Justgorgeous · 12/06/2024 18:13

Laughable really. As if we care about his ethnicity. We care about the fact that’s he’s an utter twat, and the reason that Labour will get in. God help us.

HarryBlackberry1 · 12/06/2024 18:15

I think people have just come to the end of their tethers with these Tory PMs and their corruption and incompetence to be honest. He's just the latest one. The country is in an appalling mess. Everyone was slagging Liz Truss and Boris off too just as much.

No

cakeorwine · 12/06/2024 18:22

Boris Johnson got a lot of criticism.
As did Margaret Thatcher

Tony Blair got criticism
So did Corbyn

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 12/06/2024 18:29

We didn't have Sky growing up either. He's virtually the same age as me and it wasn't actually that big (and way more expensive) back then than it is today.

It also didn't come about until 1990. So like me Sky didn't exist for most of our childhood and he was 10 when it actually came about FFS.

StaunchMomma · 12/06/2024 18:43

I hate all Tories equally so you're not pinning that on me 😁

Opinionwontchangeluv · 12/06/2024 18:45

Absolutely not he is a horrible human being and yes I'm non white

WaitingfortheTardis · 12/06/2024 18:46

I think it's more because he's part of the Tory liar crew.

neverbeenskiing · 12/06/2024 18:50

FishPhoods · 12/06/2024 13:47

Why is he a cunt?

Cuntiness is objective, obviously. In my opinion he is a cunt for many reasons including but not limited to the following

Diverting funds and resources away from socioeconomically deprived communities and giving it to already wealthy areas. He was caught on video boasting about this, which you could argue makes him a stupid cunt as well as an immoral one.

The Rwanda plan- callous, morally reprehensible, not to mention expensive and completely unworkable but he'll keep flogging that dead horse anyway because he's a stubborn and arrogant cunt who seems incapable of admitting he's wrong. The Rwanda plan is in itself racist and nothing will convince me otherwise.

Vowed to restore integrity to British politics when he was made PM then proceeded to give the loathsome Suella Braverman her job back just days after she was sacked for breaking the ministerial code in exchange for her backing his campaign because he's a self-serving cunt who puts his personal ambition before his country.

He defended Boris Johnson, made excuses for him and lied for him repeatedly when it suited his own political ambitions, then as soon as it no longer suited him he changed his tune. See above reference to him being a self-serving cunt. In the first TV debate against Starmer he kept saying he doesn't want to focus on the past because the truth is he was very much complicit in all the BoJo chaos, corruption and incompetence as much as he'd like to distance himself from it now because he's a disingenuous cunt.

He is completely out of touch with the lives of the people he claims to represent and the more he tries to appear relatable the more out of touch he seems. Asking a homeless man if he is "in business", pretending to put petrol in someone else's car, and now the whole Sky TV thing, trying to look down with the kids in his shiny white fresh out of the box Adidas sambas...it's one embarrassing PR gaffe after another, which makes him an embarrassing cunt.

One of his election campaign buzz words is "big ideas" but unfortunately all his big ideas seem to be shit. Bringing back National service, forcing kids to study maths until 18, the whole song and dance about chess in schools... gimmick after gimmick while our public services are crumbling and the economy is fucked, which makes him look like a daft cunt.

I won't deny that racism might well play a part in the criticism and dislike of him, but I maintain that there are many good reasons to loathe him. It's a shame that our first non-white PM happens to be a cunt as this will no doubt be seen by some racist individuals as giving legitimacy to their awful views. It could also make it more difficult for other less cunty non-white politicians to rise to prominence in the future, just as Liz Truss being utterly shit has probably made it even more difficult for women in politics to be taken seriously.

hattie43 · 12/06/2024 18:50

I like Rishi he comes across as a decent guy trying to do his best with very little .
I think the relentless shitstorm that follows him is whipped up by the media hanging up every word ready to crucify him .
The only question I have is why , why the hell would anyone want to be a politician.

Supersoakers · 12/06/2024 18:51

Of course many people will have racist views about him.
It’s Johnson I really can’t stand. Rishi sunak is too privileged I just wonder why he’s bothering to do the job, when he clearly couldn’t really give a shit about normal people.

Aladdinzane · 12/06/2024 18:53

Claiming that you wanting Sky Tv was a sacrifice you made in order to be able to go to one of the most exclusive private schools in the country seems to be quite out of touch tbf.

Lopine · 12/06/2024 18:54

We the electorate are free to call out incompetence and corruption, regardless of the colour of skin of that person displaying said incompetence and corruption.

Please don't with the race baiting.

I think more than anything, it's because he's a tory, and everyone loves to hate on tories!
