To think the never ending criticism of Rishi Sunak is rooted in racism?

I know he's not perfect as none of our politicians are! But I do feel like people are out to trip him up over personal things as much as possible. This Sky TV thing is Rodin my opinion - Rishi has never claimed to have had a difficult start or to have grown up in poverty. The journalist pressed him for what he went without in order that his parents could afford his private education and he said he always wanted Sky TV and never had it. He was saying it in a fairly lighthearted way he wasn't moaning or complaining!

People can't seem to handle the fact that he's wealthy and also the puns on his name and the claims he's "unpatriotic". I feel a little bit of thinly veiled racism creeping in.

Well, would you believe it, Rishi Sunak has a Mumsnet login. How you doing, Rishi...? 😂

Boris has actually always attracted a pretty high degree of hatred, even when he still had a lot of support. He was very Marmite. It's just that those of us who despised him were more heavily concentrated in constituencies that didn't matter, when compared to the people who were fans. I live in a safe Labour seat, so my blistering contempt was never important.

When people talk about Johnson having personality, I think they usually mean very obvious charisma. Which let's be honest, he has in spades. Rishi doesn't. Neither does Keir Starmer.

I can live without charisma at the helm. I’d rather have someone intelligent, savvy, honest, compassionate, strategic with strong values and integrity. Charisma is low on my list.

Absolutely. I'm a big proponent of Make Politics Boring Again

I didn’t mention press and social media. I’m talking about conversations with acquaintances. There is an absolute hated for RS that there doesn’t seem to be for BJ. But people don’t seem to know why they hate him, just that they do. I had a colleague tell me the other day that at least BJ had a personality - as though that makes up for years of bullshit. RS is apparently ‘out of touch’ but Etonian BJ was more ‘down to earth’. I mean, come on! Very few Conservative politicians are in touch with how normal people live. It’s why their policies are so fucking selfish. I can’t understand why people would believe that he’s somehow more entitled than the rest aside from racism - and believe me I am not a fan.

I don’t actually give a shit if RS is ridiculously wealthy because let’s face it, most politicians aren’t short of a bob or two. Imo his background is completely irrelevant. As is his ‘culture’ (I can only assume they are thinking of North Yorkshire when this comes up). I’m
more that happy to argue the toss over his shitty policies - there are many - but it doesn’t need to be personal.

Well if it's your friends and acquaintances having hatred for Sunak that's the opinions held by those particular people. If they can't say why they hate him and your suspect it racism at base, then maybe look at the type of people you're mixing with.

I've never seen as much dislike on MN, for instance, for Sunak as I have for Johnson.

Personally, I've felt nothing but dislike and disgust for Johnson from his time as a journalist up until he had to leave Downing Street, horrible man.

When Sunak became PM all I felt was relief that Truss had gone and hoped he'd improve things.

However, he turned out to be really unsuited to the job and frankly pretty useless, but I'm not a Conservative voter and dislike most of them.

Yes, I will be pleased to see him go, along with the rest of them, but it's got nothing to do with race.

The polls would suggest you're not alone!

Hurrah.

I will never forget the man at the food bank who obviously had so little, being interviewed, and saying he was voting for Borris. When asked why - ‘because he’s just an ordinary bloke like me’. When told he went to Eton and was part of the bullingdon club the man said ‘yeah but he’s just an ordinary bloke like me’.

Borris put on a good show. He’d untuck his shirt and ruffle his hair before getting out into public. All very carefully orchestrated.
