To think the never ending criticism of Rishi Sunak is rooted in racism?

I know he's not perfect as none of our politicians are! But I do feel like people are out to trip him up over personal things as much as possible. This Sky TV thing is Rodin my opinion - Rishi has never claimed to have had a difficult start or to have grown up in poverty. The journalist pressed him for what he went without in order that his parents could afford his private education and he said he always wanted Sky TV and never had it. He was saying it in a fairly lighthearted way he wasn't moaning or complaining!

People can't seem to handle the fact that he's wealthy and also the puns on his name and the claims he's "unpatriotic". I feel a little bit of thinly veiled racism creeping in.

Why is he a cunt?

meditrina · 12/06/2024 13:48

I think it's about what he's done and what the Tories generally have done.

Not about his personal characteristics

AmelieTaylor · 12/06/2024 13:50

Doseofreality · 12/06/2024 13:46

I think it’s more to do with him being a cunt than his race to be honest.

@Doseofreality

oh for god sake.

Will you say what you mean & not beat about the bush!

🤣🤣🤣🤣

BiggerBoat1 · 12/06/2024 13:50

For those who are saying Boris was worse - 100% agree. It has been a race to the bottom for Conservative PMs in the last few years. Boris won that race hands down, but they are all shameful.

Bushtika · 12/06/2024 13:50

I agree . I have seen lots of recent references to his 'culture'. From most people it is an opportunity to be racist.

NotHeard · 12/06/2024 13:51

FishPhoods · 12/06/2024 13:43

Liz Truss was well deserved criticism of her performance, David Cameron didn't have people trying to trip him up at every single opportunity like what we are seeing happening here.

I think Cameron did actually, but he was better at answering questions (or possibly was better advised).

ThingsWillOnlyGetBetter · 12/06/2024 13:51

I think he is an incompetent fool. An incompetent fool who is completely out of touch with the general populace and one who is woefully bad at PR.

I could not give a shiny shit about his ethnicity, colour or race.

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 12/06/2024 13:53

Will some people be hiding their racism behind general criticism? Yeah. But is he incompetent, cynical, greedy, out of touch, guilty of cronyism, unable to read the public, in short not worthy of being PM? Yeah.

haddockfortea · 12/06/2024 13:53

No.

It's because he is a wealthy Tory, and completely out of touch with what everyday life is like for millions of ordinary people who don't have the sort of money he does.

During the BoJo era I liked Rishi, I thought he was the only decent thing about the Tory party at that time. I was pleased when he became PM.

But when you propose to bring in policies that impact the worst off in our society and continue to show how out of touch you are with the difficulties that families and young people face, then you deserve every awkward question you get.

I sent my children to private school. And yes, we made massive sacrifices to do so. But my children never had to worry about having a roof over their heads or food. Some of the young people my son went to college with did have to worry about these things.

the same with this national service thing. The kids my son went to college with had to work when they were 18 all through the holidays and every weekend at uni or they couldn't afford uni. Volunteering on a weekend once a month is a lovely middle class privilege thing to do.

So yes, I will criticise him as much as I like because the things he wants to do are awful.

somewhereovertherain · 12/06/2024 13:54

fuck all to do with racism - just an over privileged clueless toss pot who's only ever served himself - he's got to be the worst PM ever.

PricklyPearNoThornsPlease · 12/06/2024 13:54

He’s better than our last two Prime Ministers.

Still incompetent, though.

twig00 · 12/06/2024 13:54

I don’t like him, and I think he’s completely out-of-touch with the average person’s reality. The sky subscription comment was just plain stupid.
But I think mispronouncing his given name deliberately is just white people being stupid. I’ll bet a lot of them aren’t even doing it deliberately, but genuinely believe his name is ‘Richie.’ That’s per usual for them when it comes to ethnic names.

crackofdoom · 12/06/2024 13:55

There has been some criticism of Sunak that comes from a racist mindset, for sure.

But he's also a cunt. I actually dislike him more than the other Tory PMs for not even pretending to care about climate change. That fucking helicopter, I swear....

5128gap · 12/06/2024 13:55

I've heard plenty of real life racism directed at RS from right wing Conservative voters who believe he can't possibly have the traditional values of Britain at heart. Its an odd state of affairs that leaves me, a life long Labour supporter, defending the Tory leader from his own.

Oh come off it, they wouldn't be mispronouncing it if he was a working class guy who's parents had scrapped through life to raise him. It would be similar if his name was Richard

Bit of a low bar though...

Euromonkey · 12/06/2024 13:59

I think he will face racism undoubtedly. Especially with some of the older generation conservative Conservatives.

But on this particular issue it’s his privilege (& pretence not to have been) that is getting peoples goat. The video of him & his wife talking about the household chores they do made me cringe - they talked about them like they were a novelty (not the way a typical person would moan about them) we know you don’t do them yourselves! Also the video of him from when he was at school, talking about knowing all sorts of people until he corrects himself about knowing anyone working class. Lucky for him his life is very comfortable but it’s silly to pretend he’s a man of the people.

HowardTJMoon · 12/06/2024 13:59

He's the latest in an ever-worsening parade of Tory PMs. The effects of 14 years of Tory misrule, cronyism, rampant profiteering and blatant law-breaking have left an awful lot of people sick to the back teeth of the Tory party as a whole, and its current figurehead.

That's not racism, that's simple recognition that relentless Tory party in-fighting has meant they ran out of talent years ago and Sunak represents the sorry dregs that are left.

Gabbsters · 12/06/2024 14:00

No, he's done a poor job.

He was dealt a poor hand, coming after Johnson and Truss and having to deal with Brexit and a public that had been fed a pack of lies by previous leaders and now expect the impossible. But the approach he's taken has been weak- he failed to offer any sort of leadership or do anything other than try to mollify the right of his party. His current strategy (try to cling onto some pensioner votes and sod everyone else) is basically just the logical endpoint of everything the Conservatives have done since 2016.

rockstarshoes · 12/06/2024 14:00

But he trips himself up self up because he's so blooming useless & out of touch!

Like asking the homeless person if he worked in business

Like leaving the D Day commemorations early

Like laughing at the GP who had a go at him about the state of the NHS when his aid made the gag about all GP's being on holiday!

That's 3 I can think of just now, 2 of which have been in the last week!

When he didn't seem to know how to pay for his Diet Coke with a contactless card - another one!

This shapes the publics opinion of him, his personal polling is awful, no wonder the press push him on these things - that's their job during an election campaign

I'm sure some people don't like him because of the colour of his skin but come on!

Totally agree.
I was actually proud we had a non white PM in this country.

Technically, he was the best of a bad bunch.
Saying that at least Teresa May had some idea of the problems of the Good Friday Agreement and N. Ireland.

Absolutely, like calling the last-but-two (three? I lose count) PM "BoJo" rather than by his proper name of Alexander Boris de Pfeffle Johnson.

CheshireCat1 · 12/06/2024 14:03

He’s not getting as much stick as Thatcher, Osborne, Johnson and let’s not forget Corbyn. This list could be a lot longer.

Gnomegarden32 · 12/06/2024 14:03

He's an incompetent, arrogant idiot, and I agree with all the criticism of him. I do agree there is racism at play however in that similarly incompetent idiots who happen to be white are treated with a respect they don't deserve. People seem less inclined to criticize, whereas the 'gloves are off' when it comes to people of colour.
