Yes I know, another XL bulky thread. But seriously, this breed is like a mine field, randomly killing owners all over. You never know when/where it will happen next.

I truly can't wrap my head around people like this woman - may she rest in peace - who are all over the internet defending these KILLERS. They all think theirs is different, theirs would never kill, theirs is a big softy.

Is it time to do something more serious? The legislation brought in doesn't seem to have stopped deaths, although at least it does appear to be the owners (who are stupid enough to keep them) who are dying now instead of innocent members of the public.

XL Bully owner was celebrating birthday when she was mauled to death - as videos emerge of her defending breed

An XL Bully owner killed by her dog had just come home from celebrating her birthday when she was mauled to death.

She wasn’t a girl. That’s hugely disrespectful. No matter how bad her choices were, she was a grown adult and made them herself.

Trying to infantilise her isn’t kind or respectful

Whatever

AStepAtaTime · 07/06/2024 20:13

People are wilfully stupid. They refuse point blank to believe that their pet has it in them to kill. But they do. And there’s not much you can do or say to make them see sense. In my opinion anyone with an ounce of common sense would never own an XL Bully. They are genetically unsafe animals. But, try telling the owners that. Even with a violent attack or mauling resulting in death nearly every week people still insist on defending them to the hilt. It’s beyond understanding

ActivePeony · 07/06/2024 20:16

Boltonb · 07/06/2024 12:46

The fact that this woman posted a video dancing with her dog (with cropped ears) and saying she doesn’t give a f*ck if people think they look aggressive etc just confirms a) aggressive nature of these awful dogs and b) the stupidity of so many of the owners

The dog was not happy in that video either.

ActivePeony · 07/06/2024 20:18

Compash · 07/06/2024 13:46

And the dog really didn't look happy in the video... what she was calling 'dancing' could be conceived as quite forceful and dominant... And as she was attacked as she came in 'from a night out', it's possible she was impaired and misreading the dog's body language - and vice versa.

Yes I agree.

Yes she was just a young girl

No she wasn't, she was a grown woman who knew the facts and chose to arrogantly disregard them.

She's one of them though. She said she didn't care for people's opinions on the breed and if they died she hoped she would go first.
She had 3 x out of control dogs.

DarkDarkNight · 07/06/2024 20:26

I completely agree. I know a family who has one of these dogs with two under 3s in the house. They think because they have been strict with the dog he is ok. Again, he is a big softy who wouldn’t harm a fly 🙄

With the sheer size and strength of them it is crazy to think if they turn an adult, never mind a child would stand a chance.

She was blinded by her love for it bless her, and ultimately its cost her her life.

Coming in through her door after celebrating her birthday, she was probably knackered. To then be on the end of that attack, horrific. Poor thing. RIP.

I think a ban is in order here.

A 23 year old woman has just died and people are basically saying she deserved it yet arguing it is disrespectful to call her a girl. Absolutely ridiculous. Cop on.

That ought to be against the law. The children are in danger. Social services can't do a thing though, unfortunately.

tomates · 07/06/2024 20:38

When people go 'it's the owners, not the breed', what do they propose is done - ban the thick idiots who make up 99% of XL bully owners? I mean, I'd love to, but it's not exactly feasible. The dogs, through no fault of their own, have been bred into a genetic dead end; they're an abomination and need to be culled en-masse, as humanely as possible.

The only people who would willingly own these dogs are feral criminals looking to intimidate people, or deluded bleeding hearts who think not liking a dog breed created for tearing things apart is akin to racism.

At what point did I say she deserved it?

But she was a grown woman. Not a girl. She made her own decisions, making out she was a child is hugely disrespectful to her.

Making her out to be a child isn't kind. How is it helpful, respectful or kind to make out she was child?

And your 'whatever', then claim you said it because other people (not me( were saying something else suggests you know that.

SloaneStreetVandal · 07/06/2024 20:42

Any dog can become dangerous with bad owners. The xl bully is just the latest in a long line to become the nutter's choice.

To this day I'm wary of jack russells. My friend's parents had one, and he was the most aggressive little prick of a dog, he bit everyone. Her Dad thought it was funny, he used to wind the poor dog up. If he hadn't been tiny, that dog would've killed for fun.

The difference with xl bullies is they're huge, and they can weigh more than the average human. I wouldn't have any dog of that size and weight. As others have said, once the xl bully dies out it'll be some other breed being coveted by arseholes.

I didn’t say you specifically said she deserved it. I’m just saying focusing in on someone referring to her as a girl is so trivial when you look at the situation. A young women suffering a horrific and untimely death.

So you replied to me not saying that because?

As I said, pretending she was a child isn't kind and disrespectful.

Turning women into children as some sort of defence of them isn't a positive thing.

If you don't like other people's comments take it up with them, instead irrelevantly posting at someone else

Yes I replied to you because you seem to have taken such offence to her being referred to as a girl. Women are often referred to as girls, just as young men are often referred to as boys. Personally it doesn’t offend me. There are much bigger issues here and I find you focusing on this trivial point very strange. Yes she was an adult but a very young adult who wouldn’t have as much knowledge or life experience as some and was clearly very naive. I just think these dogs need to be banned in Ireland to stop things like this from happening.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/06/2024 20:54

I've just spent a while going through a breeders website (in the USA) I won;t give them a free advert by naming them.

There's a pairing of a 165lb dog ( that is 11 stone 7lb ) and a 120lb bitch .
A load of information about the bone , the girth , the structure . The breeding lines .
The aim to give the biggest puppies. There will be waiting lists and people clamouring to buy them.
They are hideous , their tiny cropped ears, saggy face folds , front legs set at almost 90 degree angles from the body . Lots of 'great hip joint and patella'

Why would someone want this in their home ?
This is in the USA but it is perfectly obvious they're in the UK

You're spot on. Even in the most decent of families you'll find well intentioned but ignorant owners who think training a dog is completely beyond them (and it isn't, most dogs are really quite easily trained). Thus shed loads of family dogs are a law unto themselves - which can be a serious problem if your dog is a super heavyweight!

dawngreen · 07/06/2024 21:02

I think with dogs with that strength you need to be able to read their body language, and how they react to every thing. And it makes me angry the tictok/twitter streams of hard men teasing small dogs. And the dogs get the bad rap for been small snappy things. And the next generation of hard man dog breed is already here, and even more are wanting them.

piningforautumn · 07/06/2024 21:05

As an aside, many of these animals do look more like a monster than a dog. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, etc, but it feels perverse to breed or seek out a dog that is frankly a freaky monstrosity and clearly looks like it was bred to kill, and then go on about how sweet and soft and cuddly they are. Strikes me as a form of mental illness, tbh.

And what about the owners of this breed who are responsible and are complying fully with the new rules? Their dogs will be the ones who are well behaved, correctly trained and cared for, relaxed and properly socialised and yet people are suggesting culling them too?

I’ve added some links to the YouTube of a dog walker who owns an XL Bully who is all of the above which those advocating for further action may want to watch. It’s not the XL Bully who is poorly behaved with no correction from its owner.

I dont like the way he speaks about people who are nervous of the breed or are wary. He makes me cringe.

I don't like them, the fight instinct is bred into their very core. I could not trust one and I hate the thought of them been in a house with children. Some of the language used on this thread has being awful. We are all learning, the replies to @iamreallyabee were toe curling. Some of you sound like lunatics and to be honest, you sound like the very chavs you hate so much. Imagine writing what some of you have written about a 23 year old woman who was mauled to death by a dog. Some of you need help. Some of you will be raising children. It's so messed up.
