A work colleague who divorced recently said she'd never date a man who could be mistaken for her son.

Well, exactly why would you?! I've known 5 or 6 women over the years, between 40 and 52 who dated men 18 to 23 years younger, and they would get really snippy and arsey and whiny, when every 3rd person they met, thought that he was their son.

They would sulk and moan and say 'why do they they think he's my son, he looks nothing like my son?! He's 24. My son's only 18.' Hmm Absolutely hilarious! On some level, every single one of them thought that they looked about 12 to 15 years younger than they were ... And that their 'boyfriend' looked a few years older.

So for some crazy reason, they actually thought they looked roughly the same age ... Literally could not comprehend whatsoever that they all looked their age, and did indeed look at least two decades older than their boyfriend.

I have a friend, in his early 60s now, who told me that when he was about 21, he started dating mainly older women, in their late 30s, mostly. I think that evened out somewhat as he got towards his 30s himself.

He said they were more mature and less unpredictable. Which I think makes sense having been both a woman of 20 and of 40 myself. He wasn't' looking for a long term relationship, just to have fun. I don't think it was fetishizing anything, he was just very practical.

Creepy, gross, and wrong on every level. Why on earth does a 23 year old want to sleep with a 42 year old? Confused

I take it you don't know that sexual attraction is inherently subjective.

I really do think some people on here live very sheltered lives.

organicapricot · 06/06/2024 23:13

If both consenting then a shag yes. But no way would consider any kind of "relationship" with anyone I could have realistically given birth to.

I'm the same age and 23 is way to close to my oldest son's age. He's 17 and all his friends are late teens/early 20's. They are basically all kids to me. I do find some of them very cute and charming, but in a maternal way. Like I want to feed them and tell them to drive safely, not shag them!

OMG you have just reminded me! I met someone like that!

They were in my pub for lunch and I was serving them, it was one of their birthdays, cant remember which one, and he was SOOO much younger, 20 years or so going by looks, he got ID'd for alcohol under the "Challenge 25" thing. And I said "Oh thats nice taking your mum/son out for lunch on her/his birthday" ..... the shit I got for that! "He is NOT my son! It should be perfectly obvious that I am not old enough to be his mother!" and so on. She was older than me, that much at least was clear and I was about 46/47 at the time. She seemed to believe that he looked older and she looked a lot younger. They really did look like mother and son!

Lesson learned though, now I keep my mouth firmly shut!

As someone with a bigger age gap than that, I say, go for it. Enjoy for as long as it makes you happy. Personally it's making me a lot happier than my exH ever did ;)

Because.... and hear me out here... people want to? It's fun, maybe?

Two consenting adults having sex is fine. YOU might not want to shag someone who wasn't born in the same month as you but others can and do and it's fine.

People getting uppity about who other people choose to legally shag are the fucking weird ones.

Probably one of the women I used to know! 😆

Like, if you're going to date a man 20-25 years younger than you, don't act all shocked and butthurt when people think he's your son!

Do you live anywhere near Loughborough?!

LaceyLou82 · 06/06/2024 23:39

I’ve been with DH since he was 22 and well I prefer him now rather than then! I was also 22 lol!

so nah I wouldn’t bother with a 23 year old

Dorisknight · 06/06/2024 23:45

I say once both parties arent minors do your thing. Age is just a number. Once you both understand each other and you arent using age to take advantage of your younger sex partner who cares. I met this young bloke on Shagslam Dating and we hit it off from the get go. We exchanged photos, video chatted and then I knew the shag was on. I was 50 at the time and he was 21. Very mature for his age and into older women. There are many like him out there who yearn to be with a mature woman but our backward societal norms prevent many from just being themselves.

But what if his friend was hot😉😀

😂

Salome61 · 07/06/2024 00:05

If you are able to live for the moment and accept it for what it is - lust - and able to move on easily when he loses interest, then go for it.

No. About 100 miles away. Although these women might have moved! 😆

Yes, mine's the same age too and seriously not attracted to that age as I'm the mum and just no 😭
(Even before having kids though I've always been attracted to older men)
However after saying that at 23 you're an adult.
If you're both consenting and happy, I say go for it.

DiduAye · 07/06/2024 00:41

My husband is 20 years older than me and noone turns a hair People aren't so understanding when the woman is older If you want to and he wants to go for it !
