DP called me a middle class racist

Just now. Discussing the upcoming election. Both always voted labour. I said I’m voting Tory in the upcoming GE for a multitude of reasons, some of which come under the bracket of gender identity, kids sex ed, general tightening of illegal immigration, not taxing private schools. I explained you kind of just have to vote for the party that most aligns with your beliefs as you’re never going to agree with all of them (I don’t agree with a lot of Tory policies, but the ones that are important to me are relevant)

DP then jokes “So you’re a middle class racist now!” Then says only joking. DP will be voting labour.

Aibu to think this is quite out of order?

edited for typo!

It's neither coercive or controlling. He can choose to vote for who he likes and I can choose to leave him if his vote shows me he has views I find abhorrent.

Do you not see anything wrong with your militancy?? It is controlling, you are threatening to leave him if he chooses something different to you?! It’s truly terrible. I consider it a form of abuse and control.

No, they haven't suggested that. They are suggesting having a better strategy for preventing people entering the country, not stopping them from leaving their own countries. People smugglers don't operate just from one end, they have contacts and criminal networks that span the length of the routes they traffic across. "Smashing gangs" is typical political claptrap and doesn't mean anything. Having dedicated staff and agencies in place to deal with illegal migration is a plan.

I’m not sure what you’re expecting here?

We have to process people for asylum in accordance with international law

What are you actually thinking they’ll do? Turn people back?

I imagine that he will say whatever you want to hear - no-one has to 'show' anyone their vote thankfully.

Polishedshoesalways · 01/06/2024 19:17

What would happen if someone posted and said my dh forces me to vote for a certain party. It would be considered abuse on here.

Or you could look at the benefits system
Or free housing
Or free healthcare
Or free schooling

The list goes on without the need to look anywhere but the ballooning welfare state….

You take away support for workers and watch what happens to GPD 😆
Sick people can't work.... then they die which equals, no worker
Free housing where??? People are paying extortionate rents
Free education.... you can't make money from people with no education.....

So you see, welfare isn't about working people at all.... its to keep them working..... you take that away and watch this country fall into a decline that you have never experienced in your life.

For goodness sake, what part of what they've said are you not understanding?

Do you not think we have criminal gangs in the UK now bringing people into the country, and that Head of People Smuggling in Iraq would be able to operate without UK contacts?

We cannot stop people leaving Iraq. We can stop people having the necessary contacts to be able to ship people here, if we actually properly fund the services that do it. We can make smuggling people into the UK very high risk until it's no longer worth it. I'm not replying to any more posts because if you were actually interested, you'd read the plan instead of asking me to state the obvious over and over again.

Nmchnger · 01/06/2024 19:12

Scavernick & Polishedshoesalways absolutely not joking, it would completely give me the ick and I couldn't be married to someone with those ideals. I'm not controlling him, he can vote for who he wants to, just as I can chose to remain arrived to him or not. Fortunately he's a card carrying member of the Labour party so I think our marriage is safe.

I am interested. Do you have friends/family members who vote a different way from you? Does this also give you 'the ick' and do you refuse to associate with them?

BluebirdBoogie · 01/06/2024 19:19

People who vote Tory are only voting to improve THEIR lot in life. Obviously you feel like this OP so bugger everyone else and make sure you do well out of it.

So how do you explain the number of healthy people on benefits?

Party comparisons

More words =/= more plans. They've had 15 years. They've waffled on a lot. Matters are considerably worse now than when they started. The plans suck.

People don’t actually need a contact here to arrive

They just need to get here and apply for asylum at the border

You can see that?

I know you’re in a huff but I’m guessing it’s due to the realising how poor the idea is

Polishedshoesalways · 01/06/2024 19:22

It’s only ever Labour that can’t bear other views, always. It’s anti democratic

I'm not forcing him to vote a certain way anymore than I'm forcing him to not have an affair. Some things are dealbreakers in my relationship and that is one of them

@MrsSunshine2b
I’m guessing you didn’t notice it has both Labour and the Conservatives thoughts on the subject. Or are you slagging off both policies maybe

EnglishBluebell · 01/06/2024 19:24

I personally assume Tory voters are racist but I don't blurt it out every time someone says they're voting Tory. But then nobody I associate with, would vote Tory.

Polishedshoesalways · 01/06/2024 19:19

You mean the ones in work or out of work?
I didn't even include benefits actually and there's a reason for that....
GDP would increase without benefits....
And yet
It's nationalised healthcare and education rich people want rid of... let's see these rich buisness owners faces when they realise they can't employ anyone healthy enough or skilled enough to do the job..... bye bye fortune lol

Funny, that's not my experience at all

I think, like anywhere on the political spectrum, there are closed minded people and people who shout their beliefs & opinions from the roof top. Intolerance isn't limited to any political group.
