DP called me a middle class racist

Whoswhoof · 31/05/2024 20:02

Just now. Discussing the upcoming election. Both always voted labour. I said I’m voting Tory in the upcoming GE for a multitude of reasons, some of which come under the bracket of gender identity, kids sex ed, general tightening of illegal immigration, not taxing private schools. I explained you kind of just have to vote for the party that most aligns with your beliefs as you’re never going to agree with all of them (I don’t agree with a lot of Tory policies, but the ones that are important to me are relevant)

DP then jokes “So you’re a middle class racist now!” Then says only joking. DP will be voting labour.

Aibu to think this is quite out of order?

edited for typo!

For rape survivors who are agoraphobic and have withdrawn from society because of a lack of safe, single sex spaces for women, yes, it will make it better. Eye roll all you want at rape survivors, but you're not putting yourself in a good light.

As a rape survivor myself I will eye roll those who want to restrict access to safe spaces for all.

My support groups are loving and inclusive of all genders who are impacted by rape and sexual assault.

Corbyn himself went to private school.

Nigel Farages son was expelled from ours 🤣

Seaitoverthere · 01/06/2024 00:01

I'd be pretty shocked if DH said he was voting Conservative after voting Labour - especially as there are a fair few people planning to do the opposite currently after the supreme shit show of the last few years.

people saying they’ll vote Tory cos of trans people is one of the maddest things, never thought I’d see the day.

Tories don’t give a shit about what happens to regular woman day to day, in cubicles or changing rooms or nothing. They’re using the issue to stir up a frenzy, like they do with the sodding ULEZ and immigration and it’s so fucking obvious.

it’s all ‘we need to take a calm measured approach’ and the calm measured approach is ‘we’ll send them to Rwanda’ and ‘people are vandalising traffic islands’ and ‘kids are going to the toilet in cat litter in schools’ it’s MAD why can’t everyone see how mad it is?

They've changed the policy on single sex hospital wards. That's more than Labour has done (and I say this as a Labour supporter).

RaverQuavers · 31/05/2024 23:58

You don’t agree with basic facts about Rwanda and their government?

Also it’s not improved. They just do less nasty shit at home and fund other countries to do nasty shit.

I hope you are a troll as it honestly concerns me someone with such a weird mindset exists and is allowed to vote (and breed)

Oh do shut up - I have on this site for a decade or more. And I am sick and tired of the lefties assuming the moral high ground when they are in fact racist. If you are genuinely in fear of your life you are not going to care if you are end up in Rwanda or Reading!

wellington77 · 01/06/2024 00:02

Yep that’s what a lot of people who don’t vote conservative say, all it does is shut down debate and silence many people’s legitimate concerns. I have it at work, someone butted into a conversation I was having about the previous election and said I was homophobic for voting conservative. Was so shocked I didn’t say anything at the time- wish I had now- not least because I’m bisexual anyways!

Hit a nerve have I?

Im a racist? For what? Accurately writing down every single major issue with a country you think is great.

Do you agree with a gang of men raping a newborn to death? As the Rwandan government do. They fund the groups doing it.

You need to stop before you are banned.

For the record, I am mixed race. My grandparents are from the windrush generation. I have both African and Caribbean heritage as well as Irish English.

yes I have children at private school

After the Windrush scandal you’re still voting Tory? FFS. Unbelievable.

Stop what? Writing down basic facts you don’t seem to like.

for someone who is so supportive of women’s rights I’m surprised you’re ok with the mass rape and torture committed in the DRC backed by Rwanda of women and children.

Why do you think it isn’t fabulous? Because it doesn’t fit in with your narrow world view

You've lived in Rwanda, obviously. What is it about the country that you found fabulous?

It’s well known that unisex spaces have a far higher rate of rape and sexual assault.

Putting lives at risk is not what we should be voting for if we care for all humanity.

Hadalifeonce · 01/06/2024 00:07

Whatever yours or your partner's politics, it is out of order to call someone names like that just because you disagree with them.
If he can't have a mature discussion, it just goes to show the caliber of the man.

Polishedshoesalways · 01/06/2024 00:07

If Women want to vote for the conservatives because it’s their only chance to preserve women’s rights, they can. End of.

It’s still a vanishingly low risk

And when you take into account other factors the rewards far outweigh the risks.

The Windrush people came here in 1948 under the Labour Government at the time who gave them no legal long term rights and protection in the UK.

This came to light in 2017/18. That doesn’t make it the fault of the Conservatives who dealt with it.

Its the fault of Labour in 1948

Eh? Sorry @RaverQuavers, don’t understand your question.

If it helps, there’s nothing whatsoever that I love about Rwanda?
