DP called me a middle class racist

1000 replies

Whoswhoof · 31/05/2024 20:02

Just now. Discussing the upcoming election. Both always voted labour. I said I’m voting Tory in the upcoming GE for a multitude of reasons, some of which come under the bracket of gender identity, kids sex ed, general tightening of illegal immigration, not taxing private schools. I explained you kind of just have to vote for the party that most aligns with your beliefs as you’re never going to agree with all of them (I don’t agree with a lot of Tory policies, but the ones that are important to me are relevant)

DP then jokes “So you’re a middle class racist now!” Then says only joking. DP will be voting labour.

Aibu to think this is quite out of order?

edited for typo!

@Whoswhoof actually people of colour are very capable of being racist. example suella the cruella

any descendent of immigrants who then talks about how immigrants are the problem, are literally kicking down as they climb up the ladder. most immigration in this country are legal, then the rest are mainly asylum seekers. they are not illegal. no human being is illegal. perhaps you should stop reading whatever right-wing rag you are getting your info from?

the uk economy needs migrants. the politicians are too cowardly to openly admit that.

either way, imo anyone voting tory in this election is at best wilfully misguided or at worst rich and selfish. the tories have systemically dessimated the public services because austerity and then pointed at immigrants for the subsequent collapse of those services. they destroyed the economy by completely shambolic management of the monetary policy, budget etc not to mention spearheading brexit, and then again pointing the finger at immigrants. anyone voting tory is complicit in the destruction of this country.

go for it OP, if you haven't learnt the lesson of the last 14 years, strangers on the Internet are hardly likely to lead you to the light.

No, the conservatives have been the only party to realise the growing issue and they have addressed it. Labour is going to erode all of our progress.

When you say no here are you saying no these rapes didn’t happen under the current Tory government? They are the government that allowed men to be housed in the female prison estate aren’t they?

Polishedshoesalways · 31/05/2024 23:46

Blinkingbonkers · 31/05/2024 23:44

We blame the ‘Tories’….but really it’s a faction of the far right wing, both Tory, Reform etc and a truly woeful ill educated opposition AND the British public for being soooo happy to be sooooo ill educated and ill informed themselves that they’ll vote on the basis of a populist headline. I’m not sure where we’ll end up but I don’t think it’ll be any better sadly. People need to demand better of themselves as well as everyone else.

Maybe use a comma occasionally speaking of education.

Your first para re Labour MPs sending their kids to private school

cough cough

Diane Abbott

Edited

Fair enough. 20 years ago, and she admitted it was indefensible (https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2003/nov/01/uk.schools), but yep, score 1. And I can't even hide behind "Well ackshually she isn't a Labour MP" because she became one again for about 48 hours before Parliament was dissolved. 😂

Abbott defends indefensible in sending son to private school

The leftwing Labour MP Diane Abbott has admitted that her decision to send her 12-year-old son to a private school is "indefensible".

But this all happened under the tories surely?

It was never an issue until Stonewall started campaigning.
The Conservatives addressed an issue that never existed before. No other party are doing so, they are all still following Stonewalls path.

AInightingale · 31/05/2024 23:49

I doubt Labour are going to lose the election, @Polishedshoesalways . But I do think after their moment of glory on 5 July, things will turn sour for them very quickly. They're walking on eggshells around so many sensitive issues atm, dodging the inevitable conflicts of interest, but how can this continue?

Absolutely and no one has swallowed the rhetoric more than Labour

Let me see…. Labour donors…. Now it all makes sense why women have penises suddenly.

tillyandmilly · 31/05/2024 23:50

I am not voting for Labour - disagree with their gender identity policies nor do I want to vote for the Conservatives for all the mess up with the NHS !

I don’t follow this - are you saying there were not men in women’s prisons until Stonewall campaigned for it? Why did the tories allow it regardless of who campaigned?

@Polishedshoesalways are you going to answer the questions around how you claim to be concerned with women’s rights yet think Rwanda is fabulous?

Why do you think it isn’t fabulous? Because it doesn’t fit in with your narrow world view.

I already listed some of the reasons, but you conveniently ignore that reply

”what's wrong with Rwanda?

how about crippling levels of poverty

Poor human rights records

Their current support of the conflict in the DRC - which since you love women’s rights should horrify you. As recently a 13 year old girl gave birth and watched her baby raped to death by the same people the Rwandan government are supporting. Rape is being used as a tool of war and the Rwandan government are actively supporting it.

They back the M23, which has led the US to recently label them as complicit in the use of child soldiers

They have a strong track record of using torture in prisons

Then there is all the environmental issues such as mass flooding and landslides killing many people”

So I ask again do you only care about rape when it impacts white women?

SoreAndTired1 · 31/05/2024 23:54

pointythings · 31/05/2024 21:29

What you say is only true if you view women's rights as a single issue solely related to gender. Which is of course a view you are entitled to, but not everyone agrees with you.

I think you mean sex. Not 'gender'. Gender, is the problem.

Corbyn himself went to private school.

incywincyspiders · 31/05/2024 23:55

If private schools didn't exist and rich people's kids had to go to state school, you'd bet your bottom dollar they would be properly funded. Same with the NHS and this is why neither private education or health care should exist.

Because women of colour are also at risk of rape in our hospitals and prisons.

i don’t agree with you re Rwanda. You can’t punish them because they are not wealthy! Their human rights record has improved, something you fail to acknowledge.

SoreAndTired1 · 31/05/2024 23:57

RaverQuavers · 31/05/2024 21:47

Ah but they’ll try to make sure you’re never in a toilet cubical next to a penis.

That makes it allll better

eye roll

For rape survivors who are agoraphobic and have withdrawn from society because of a lack of safe, single sex spaces for women, yes, it will make it better. Eye roll all you want at rape survivors, but you're not putting yourself in a good light.

Question time was fun this week. Great questions from the audience. Especially the doctors wondering what doctors were going to work extra hours!

You don’t agree with basic facts about Rwanda and their government?

Also it’s not improved. They just do less nasty shit at home and fund other countries to do nasty shit.

I hope you are a troll as it honestly concerns me someone with such a weird mindset exists and is allowed to vote (and breed)
