Tesco not delivering because I had no id!!

Vius · 27/05/2024 18:41

Just learnt that apparently you now have to have id to accept home deliveries.

Annoyingly DP was out with my car (his is at the garage) which had my license in.

Im 31 ffs and no booze or matches etc were in the shop this time.

The teenager delivery boy said he could not deliver! He asked if I had id or if my parents were home. Now I have no wrinkles on account of using retinol in addition to having gained 3 stone since Covid due to depression. My face has very much started to sag (looking to get threads and lose weight sooner rather than later). No way you need to “think 25” with me.

What is the point?? Was this a power trip??

Now have to fork out on a takeaway for my dinner

You didn't have to get a takeaway for today. You could have just gone to the supermarket and got food for the week.

I have no car and I Iive off a bendy country lane with national speed limits. Not possible to walk to the Tesco express.

I'm pretty sure they've had this policy for a few years.

RubySloth · 27/05/2024 18:49

If there was no age restricted items, I really can't understand this. As for the pp above is ridiculous 🙄

Balloonhearts · 27/05/2024 18:49

Firstly he isn't a teenager. You have to hold a clean licence for 3 years before you can have a job as a delivery driver, which makes him at least 20.

Secondly, it's his job. He didn't waste his own time and effort for shits and giggles. I doubt he cba to take it all back to be disposed of or whatever they do with it. It would be much easier for him just to say don't worry about it but he's risking his job if he does.

I doubt he personally cares if you're 25. I know I couldn't give a fuck if someone is 21 but if the policy is needing ID then that's what I have to ask for.

Does it not say on the confirmation email that you need to have it to take delivery? If it doesn't, I'd ring them up and complain but I'd not blame the delivery bloke for doing what he's told.

Slobberchops1 · 27/05/2024 18:50

Sounds like a jobs worth who has the wrong end of the stick . You need id for age restricted products - complain might get something free

YOU could have gone to a supermarket. But plenty of people have home deliveries because they can't go to a supermarket. Me included!

YANBU OP. I've never been asked for ID. Even with alcohol in the delivery!

Hmm not here in South Oxfordshire.

How do you know OP hasn't got a disability.. and if you are paying for delivery it's not the point. I've never been id'ed and in my early 30s.

Grennwyld · 27/05/2024 18:53

I’ve had online food shopping for years and never been asked for ID. I can understand it with age restricted products, but they knocked on your door, how could you not be the person who was expecting the delivery? I’d say it is someone who has misunderstood the rules.

Well he looked VERY young.

No mention of policy change on website or email.

@Balloonhearts thank you for supporting someone working in retail (I haven't done since aged 21 so have no vested interest).

Of course if the OP thinks rules don't apply to them, I would assume they are one of the few on MN who still intend to vote Tory.

JanglingJack · 27/05/2024 18:55

I would have asked him to call in straight away so that you could speak to somebody.

Vius · 27/05/2024 18:56

Extremely annoying! We have been stretching out our big shop - gone from weekly to fortnightly due to COL. Have been having very random meals for last few days. Was looking forward to a proper meal.

Just seen this OP:

'We operate a Think 25 policy, so you may be asked to show ID to prove you are over 18 when purchasing age-restricted products, such as matches, tobacco, alcohol and medicines'.

Therefore if you had none of those items in your shopping, he should have delivered regardless.

MagnetCarHair · 27/05/2024 18:57

I've never had to show i.d. with Tesco 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh Jesus. 😂

JanglingJack · 27/05/2024 18:58

It is odd, especially if no 'over 18' items.

AmelieTaylor · 27/05/2024 18:59

Clearly my retinol isn't as good as your retinol 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

read their terms and conditions & NO large national companies do not have different T&C depending on where the order is picked 🙄🙄🙄

it's NOT a new policy

Not so. Even if an order has no age restricted items, the driver has to ask for valid ID if the customer or person at door looks under 25.

No ID to hand?

Driver is well within their rights to return your order to store as per Tesco policy.

OP should check the Terms And Conditions.

PerkyPanda · 27/05/2024 19:00

I had an online delivery yesterday, I was not, & have never been, asked for id. Not even with wine in the shop.

Omg, that was a fucking masterclass in playing the victim while being an utter dick. Well played.

fieldsofbutterflies · 27/05/2024 19:02

You have to be able to prove you're 18 to receive food delivery from Tesco, even if nothing in your basket is age restricted.

Eyelashesoffire · 27/05/2024 19:02

I've never been asked for ID in the 16 yrs I've had deliveries, even with alcohol, matches. I need to know what retinol you're using!!

ZipZapZoom · 27/05/2024 19:03

That's ridiculous! I would definitely be filing off an email.

Also as is always the case on threads like this people seem unclear about the challenge 25 policy. They ask for ID to prove you are over 18 not to prove you're over 25. If the driver can't tell a 31 year old is over 18 then he probably shouldn't be on the roads as his eyesight is not up to scratch.
