Tesco not delivering because I had no id!!

Just learnt that apparently you now have to have id to accept home deliveries.

Annoyingly DP was out with my car (his is at the garage) which had my license in.

Im 31 ffs and no booze or matches etc were in the shop this time.

The teenager delivery boy said he could not deliver! He asked if I had id or if my parents were home. Now I have no wrinkles on account of using retinol in addition to having gained 3 stone since Covid due to depression. My face has very much started to sag (looking to get threads and lose weight sooner rather than later). No way you need to “think 25” with me.

What is the point?? Was this a power trip??

Now have to fork out on a takeaway for my dinner

Aldi and Lidl don't do deliveries.

Some people NEED deliveries. Consider yourself fortunate you don't

Just Eat deliver groceries.

Tesco have a Whoosh option.

Iceland do same day slots.

Asda do express delivery too.

There are more options than Tesco...
Even an Uber to Aldi - Uber home.

How do YOU know I don't?

OP's DH was out with the car. So presumably he could go to lidl.

I really cannot be arsed to do a big shop in person. Going up and down the aisles…no thanks! Including driving, that would take hours.

Just eat and uber add on ££ so it doesn't matter where they can deliver from. You're probably best just going to tesco.

Also the other poster said lidl and aldi. Just eat and uber don't always deliver to remote areas. Which is where OP said she lived?

Your quick response to 'go here instead'

Also the dp was out. How do you know when he'd be back?

We don't have JustEat here.
Or Tesco Whoosh.
Or Iceland delivery.
Or Asda express delivery.
Or Uber.

And our nearest Aldi is 25 miles away, or 45 minutes by car.

Not everyone lives where you do.

Yellowhammer09 · 27/05/2024 20:07

I'd have been absolutely bloody furious, OP. I too live in an area with no instant delivery option and if I didn't have access to the car I'd be stuffed.

Its always worth having a photo of your driving licence or similar for this type of stupid occasion.

wizarddry · 27/05/2024 20:10

Ah well. You'll just have to book the next available slot when you'll have ID available

The thing is I don’t live that remotely. A lot of London commuters live here. You just need a car to be able to reach the nearest Tesco express/garage which is 12 mins down a very unwalkable country road.

There is a village post office which sells essentials but obviously not open today.

Sorry to hear that. How annoying. Are they going to refund you @Vius ???

Why did you not have I.D. at home though? Passport, driving licence, anything at all with your name and photo on? Nothing in the house? How are you going to take in the delivery next time?

FOHM · 27/05/2024 20:14

OP Im in South Oxfordshire and use Ocado. I've never needed ID for any delivery - and I've had loads of alcohol. 🤪

wizarddry · 27/05/2024 20:15

Don't leave your ID in the car if it gets nicked you'll lose your ID too

Like you assumed OP could just go to Aldi or Lidl.

If I am unable to do something, my advice to some other person would not be to arserly say 'do this instead' when I myself couldn't do it.

But hey ho

This made me LOL, because it reminds me of when DH is like - Hmm - when I say 'I'm not leaving my handbag in the car, coz if the car is nicked my handbag is gone!' He is like 'fuck your sodding handbag, what about the car?! ConfusedHmm

I'm like.... Blush

PrincessTeaSet · 27/05/2024 20:19

Don't you have a photo of your id? A credit card or work id? A passport? Birth certificate ? Marriage certificate? Surely at home there's something. Why keep a driving licence in the car - there's no need to carry it in the UK. Seems really odd.

I don’t get this post.

Not everyone lives in towns and cities. Does that really need to be said?

I’m quite happy to be living in a village just outside a large-ish town close enough to commute to London. In a semi btw.

Just posted not to wahh but to see how others had dealt with this so called policy change.

Credit card is not ID

Vius · 27/05/2024 20:22

I left my bag (with drivers license) in the car yesterday (was holding a dog and kfc at 11 pm ish).

We have a folder with important documents but couldn’t even guess where that’s been put as we are showing house to sell. Knew I wouldn’t be able to find it within 5 minutes of being prompted by Tesco guy.

Swiss cheese I guess

If I'm asked for ID, my thoughts go to:

Driver's licence
Credit card
Bank statement
Birth certificate
Council tax bill

None of those to hand in your own house?

I would've pulled out anything like the above I could find and said "will this do?" Maybe offer to call the bank or the doctors and have them give my age to him. Basically keep him there long enough that he wants to help find a solution.

None of those count as ID except the drivers license.
