But he’s not the only one in the Labour party

sp1ders · 16/05/2024 18:05

Ha ha I'd like to see him try 😂 he'd rather sell his own granny rather than be seen as unwoke. We've had it mate 😭

fiskaloopa · 16/05/2024 18:06

Yep. Labour have a real blind spot regarding women. A very male dominated and weirdly macho party given their aim to be progressive.

I saw that Rosie Duffield confirmed on Twitter that she met with Keir for 17 minutes but no apology.

They just don't get it.

ssd · 16/05/2024 18:15

Good try op. The tories are finished.

Meadowfinch · 16/05/2024 18:17

You're right OP.

I can't vote for them, they represent a genuine risk to women's rights, which is so sad.

Allthesea · 16/05/2024 18:39

My local Labour MP is great, she’s very sensible on gender ideology and protective of women’s rights.

I feel passionately about this subject, and Labour will be getting my vote for sure.

It’s actually the Tories that have really dropped the ball on women’s rights and children’s rights. Education and Health have been woefully neglected for years which has created an environment where ideologies have been able to get a foothold unchecked and unexamined.

This current furore is all the more divisive and controversial, because attention to the issue has come far, far too late.

I really, really hope so, but I live in South Norfolk and the Tory vote is very much alive and kicking here. I think generally people just don’t dare to admit they’d vote for them anymore, but they still do. 🤦🏼‍♀️

They'll never be finished. Yes this current lot will be voted out this time. But they'll be back. They always are.

I can't vote. I'm totally stuck. And I'm so fucking furious with Labour for being the way they are and putting me in this position. I know a lot of women feel the same way.

Meadowfinch · 16/05/2024 18:53

The other thing to note is that in the local elections, the tories lost 400ish seats but Labour didn't pick up that many.

Labour picked up a little over half that, which suggests to me the lost tory votes could have been protest votes that may return for a General Election.

I don't understand why Labour risk alienating up to 50% of the population when it's totally unnecessary. It's almost like they're trying to throw yet another election and it makes me so angry. Their misogyny is so deep rooted they don't even recognise it for what it is.

Edited

This ignores the fact that gender ideology swept across the western world the last ten years or so. It divided America and took over Canada and Australia and half of Europe for a start. Yes, we got caught up in it but the Tories put the brakes on a while back when they rowed back on self ID. Had we had a leftist party in power, we would be full on gender woo by now.

Could the Tories have done better? Yes. But it could have been soooooo much worse.

Is this another one of those threads where the shills come in and bang on about how amazing the Conservative party are with regard to women?

Sigh.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 16/05/2024 18:59

Well the Tory Education minister seems very keen to endanger children and young girls by banning primary (age appropriate) sex education. She also confirms that TWAW (if that is something that bothers you).

Local election results two weeks ago gave us a lot of evidence that the Conservatives have serious electoral problems.

Maybe South Norfolk will cling on, but look at, for example, the West Midlands or North Yorkshire mayoral results.

Yes one of those threads.

Apparently every problem women face today is nothing to do with the government who have been in power for the last 14 years.

The only ones who mention ‘shills’ and ‘bots’ seem to be Labour supporters / members. 🤔

At least things have moved in since 2022. But not with Starmer. Why?

OP posts:
Zonder · 16/05/2024 20:32

I don't know, I think his 6 policies are going to be better for women than the current government.

AdamRyan · 16/05/2024 20:36

What threat to womens rights do you think Starmer poses, exactly?
He's aiming to halve violence against women and girls. Treat repeat domestic abusers and rapists like the serious criminals they are. Various other actions that benefit women. Lots of it was covered in Emily Thornberry's conference speech.

https://www.emilythornberry.com/shadow-attorney-general/2023/10/10/making-the-law-work-for-women-my-labour-conference-speech-2023/

Labour also have a position on the GRA and protecting single sex spaces which is more thought through than the other parties including the Conservatives.

It's very strange that people keep insisting they are somehow dangerous. I'd much rather Labour than the current bunch of Conservative muppets. Imagine voting for a party where one of the leading female MPs would rather protect men from "vexatious complaints" than protect victims from having to see their attacker at work 🤬

Making the Law Work for Women – My Labour Conference Speech 2023 - Emily Thornberry

Friends, it’s been a year, but I’ve got to say, it feels like nothing’s changed. Matt Hancock’s still making a prat of himself. Liz Truss is still having breaks from reality in public. Suella’s still on manoeuvres against Rishi. Rishi’s still too frigh...

Yep, I love people who think the trans issue is more important than all the other issues that affect so many more women to a far greater degree: the NHS, Council services, domestic violence services, the rolling back of rights for temp workers, education and school buildings, insecure housing. You know, trivial little things like that.

Clearly I'm not a true feminist.

Just FWIW: I oppose the use of puberty blockers. I just don't believe Labour are going to reinstate their use. I support the Cass report. I just don't think Labour are going to bin it. And I also haven't forgotten that men in female prisons, men in women's sport and men in female NHS wards has all happened under the current government. And yet here we are again - the Tories are the best party for women.
