The majority yanbu vote is interesting, imo some of the attacks do put some who might like to say why they’ve voted yanbu off

Yes, I thought that. The vote result wasn't in line with the posting.

Why all the spamming of crimes that have happened under the tories? Is it to show us that if we vote tory, this is what we get?

More of the same.

Yes, what is the point OP is trying to make. That the Tories have made life worse for women?

We already know that. Doubly so for those of us that are disabled and/or have children.

Tbh he could murder a puppy live on TV and I'd probably still vote for him.
Anything but more tories.

@AdamRyan
‘Especially when so many invest time attacking, threatening or undermining’

Wow!! A friend of mine left MN because Labour supporters treated her with such aggression. She had enough. But you can ignore that I guess.

Why have you @me with a quote that is nothing to do with me?

I don't know what to say about your friend. MN has robust debate but also a good moderation policy. I don't think they would tolerate "aggression" from left wing posters. Maybe your friend should have used the report button, or maybe they perceive disagreement as aggression. Who knows.

BIossomtoes · 18/05/2024 22:51

More likely the latter.

Sorry yes I wasn’t concentrating and tagged you incorrectly.

Aggression - It’s on a thread. I’ll have a look. See what you think

Yep, wondering the same!
They've been in power for 14 years.

You're right OP.

I can't vote for them, they represent a genuine risk to women's rights, which is so sad.

Keir Starmer to set free domestic abusers under Labour government's new early release scheme

Among the 1,700 set to walk free next Tuesday are a man who told his partner he was 'enjoying' attacking her and another who strangled his partner and broke her jaw, The Times reports.
Under Sir Keir's Starmer's new scheme, Connor Shaw will only serve 13 months of his prison sentence after subjecting his partner to years of mental and physical abuse.
He was originally sentenced 32 months behinds bars after breaking her jaw, strangling her, and threatening to throw acid in her face.

Another abuser who will be granted freedom after serving barely half of his prison sentence is Shane Riley.
The then 44-year-old said he was 'enjoying' assaulting his partner as he punched, kicked and headbutted the victim in her Soham home when broke off their relationship on June 8, 2020.

He was sentenced to 23 months for causing actual bodily harm, common assault, making threats to kill, and criminal damage. He will serve less than nine months.

You know this was what the Tory party had planned to do? They started this.

ilovesooty · 07/09/2024 08:04

Prisoners serving long sentences aren't being released under the scheme, which is necessary due to the strain on the prison service caused by the Tories' mishandling of the criminal justice system. Some of those serving shorter sentences who are being released on licence will unfortunately be domestic abusers.

BornToBeWokeFree · 07/09/2024 08:25

So the Tories are setting all these violent men free to make room for the ones they jailed for shouting at police dogs, writing hurtful words on the internet or rolling bins into the police?

GentlemanJohnny · 07/09/2024 08:28

Good try op. The tories are finished.

Agreed. You'd think they'd be more worried about fighting Reform than trying to take on Labour.

They wish they still had the power!

The current government are setting free some people not in for long sentences because the Tories didn't manage prisons well over 14 years and now it's all a mess. Even the Tories were planning to cut some sentences short to free up space in prisons.

But of course you knew all that.

As people said on the news last night, the recent stiff sentencing had the desired effect of stopping the riots.

What does it say to domestic abusers then? What is the desired effect here of stopping the abuse with the light sentences?
