Yep, I love people who think the trans issue is more important than all the other issues that affect so many more women to a far greater degree: the NHS, Council services, domestic violence services, the rolling back of rights for temp workers, education and school buildings, insecure housing. You know, trivial little things like that.

Clearly I'm not a true feminist.

Just FWIW: I oppose the use of puberty blockers. I just don't believe Labour are going to reinstate their use. I support the Cass report. I just don't think Labour are going to bin it. And I also haven't forgotten that men in female prisons, men in women's sport and men in female NHS wards has all happened under the current government. And yet here we are again - the Tories are the best party for women.

They are great aren't they?

Those things you appreciate in the second paragraph. Is that due to people saying stop going on about the ‘trans issue’ or because women did speak up and effected change?

I’d say it was down to many women speaking up, even if often derided (including by pp on here sadly)

This ignores the fact that gender ideology swept across the western world the last ten years or so. It divided America and took over Canada and Australia and half of Europe for a start. Yes, we got caught up in it but the Tories put the brakes on a while back when they rowed back on self ID. Had we had a leftist party in power, we would be full on gender woo by now.

Could the Tories have done better? Yes. But it could have been soooooo much worse.

I don’t really think so.

The same people who are raising concerns now would have raised the same concerns no matter who was charge, but possibly they would have been heard earlier if we had a government that even took an interest in what is happening in public services.

I have voted Tory in the past but I lost all confidence some years ago and gender politics is no different.

Labour gets my vote.

Zonder · 16/05/2024 20:47

Well said @pointythings

Greengablesfables · 16/05/2024 20:50

I’m not sure what this ‘trans issue’ is.

My issue is this women’s issue thing. Women and children.

https://unherd.com/2023/01/the-labour-party-has-a-woman-problem/

But this is old ground. I’m waiting for Labour to listen to women. Or women like me. Women like Labours own RD. Until then no vote.

As the other thread I posted above in pp discussed . 2022 and they are no better.

The Labour Party has a woman problem

I know how it feels to be in an abusive relationship

Yes ‘trans issue’ is a bit of a giveaway

Keir is ignoring women and children you say?

So, women and children don't care about reducing NHS waiting lists, getting more teachers into schools, stabilising the economy ect?

news to me. You'll note that, by using his first name, I'm a Labour supporter.

Labour don't listen to women. They make an absolute POINT of not listening to women. Have you not been paying attention?

What, like this you mean?

Confused

Yes ‘trans issue’ is a bit of a giveaway

It's shorthand. You know that perfectly well.

The problem women have is men. Transwomen are only a tiny, tiny proportion of the predatory men out there. Focusing on them and ignoring, for instance, the all but explicit legalisation of rape in the UK, is completely missing the point.

If that one thing decides your vote above all others, you have not been paying attention to the way our government has made life harder for women across the piece. If you genuinely think the Tories do better for women, you haven't been listening.

Are Labour perfect? Of course not. But more of the same isn't the answer so like many pragmatists I will settle for change with the likelihood of at least some improvement in some areas.

You didn’t answer how you were able to list the things you want to keep

It was due to women speaking up. Something a few posters rally against.

Churchview · 16/05/2024 21:05

There are a lot of women who will be very pleased to hear about better availability of hospital appointments, more police and more teachers.

But he’s not the only one in the Labour party

He is the leader and will be if they get in.
Just shows that even as the opposition for 17 years he still cant say the right things

Not so many women will be happy with a man giving them intimate examinations, sharing a ward, a bathroom, toilets, men doing intimate police searches etc. No not many women will like that at all.

I was assaulted by a man in a hospital ward (in Italy). In the middle of the night when I’d been asleep . We were sharing a room. Labour are enabling that.

Yes. You are right.
Women like Maya Forstater, Kathleen Stock, JKR and now Hilary Cass have been instrumental in protecting women's sex based rights.

The Conservative party however have done nothing apart from parasitise feminists. It baffles me why so many posters are so obsessed with trying to make this an anti left-wing issue. its just very obviously not. But I guess Lee Anderson did say that picking fights over "culture wars" was the only option the Tories had.

Surely not 'creep in', but rather the direct result of 14 years of Conservative policy.

Doesn't have to be fast tracked by anyone - it's already happening.

Oh wait, there isn't any. Just assumption and interpretation.
