To think that most people pee in the pool, on holiday? Do you?

Just back from a hot holiday. Hotel had a lovely big pool, with a swim up bar serving all manner of cocktails, wine, beer etc. People would be in the pool for hours drinking, chatting etc. Surely everyone is actually peeing in the pool? And do you?

The voice of reason!

According to this post most people go on holiday and don’t swim in the pool. I’m sorry but I just don’t believe that for one second.

This is what I thought; you point out that pools are fairly yucky anyway and people say “Oh I never go in the pool!” But I’ve literally never met anyone who goes to the trouble of going on a pool holiday and avoiding the pool 😂

Plosperous · 14/05/2024 22:42

What???!!!??

Please tell me this is a wind up and no one actually pees in the pool? Why do we put swimming nappies on babies if adults happily pee in the pool anyway?

Katbum · 14/05/2024 22:43

Everyone saying no is lying, surely. Yes I pee in the pool. That’s what the chemicals are for / pee not worse than sweat, spit, snot etc etc.

Finally! I’m not the only one.

snot is way worse.

Has this thread made you reconsider, or will you continue with your ways?

To be completely truthful I will most likely think about this thread and giggle as I pee.

I know I know - I’m a horrid person.

Tbf swim nappies are only for poo. We accept baby wee in pools.

Scottishlady2 · 14/05/2024 22:47

What’s the point in lying on an anonymous forum?? No one is lying and yes you’re the gross minority!

Swim nappies don't contain the wee anyway only the poo.

BustyLee · 14/05/2024 22:49

No way. How disgusting. This is why I no longer use public pools.

moggiek · 14/05/2024 22:50

I can’t believe that this is a serious question. It’s disgusting!

BernardBlacksBreakfastWine · 14/05/2024 21:22

I don’t think OP said she did?

I don’t, no. I would consider it very uncivilised.

But I don’t know why everyone is going quite so bonkers about it. You know babies and toddlers are doing it. You must also know that the pool isn’t clean in any sense - people sweat, for a start, and then there’s all sorts of other oozing bodily fluids. Plus insects and the bottoms of people’s feet that have been all over the place round the pool.

I think in threads like this there’s an element of performative revulsion. Either that or people haven’t really thought a lot about the implications of, you know, living in a world with other people/animals. If you have a picnic/play in the park, you might easily be sitting where a dog crapped yesterday for example (owner picked it up but dog poo residue remains). The world is full germs, many of them worse than a bit of heavily diluted urine. I don’t want to see people peeing in the pool, but I’m happy enough to pretend it doesn’t happen and carry on swimming.

Eurgh!!

Cuckoochanel80 · 14/05/2024 22:52

No. Jesus wept.

JL690 · 14/05/2024 22:54

No way, I don't.

But it reminds me of a joke my Dad told me. Wee Jimmy came home from the swimming pool early and told his Dad he'd been banned because he peed in the pool. His Dad went straight to the pool to complain and argued that everyone did it so why wasn't everyone banned. The manager replied "Because no-one else does it from the top diving board" 😬

PurpleFlower1983 · 14/05/2024 23:00

Sea yes, pool no!

PatchworkElmer · 14/05/2024 23:00

Of course I don’t wee in swimming pools. It genuinely hadn’t even occurred to me that continent adults would even consider this.

Pupupthenight · 14/05/2024 23:01

No. How disgusting.

RoseAndGeranium · 14/05/2024 23:03

No! That’s gross.

livefully · 14/05/2024 23:04

No, I don't. I go before I get in and after, and get out in between if I have to.

Pupupthenight · 14/05/2024 23:05

SeriaMau · 14/05/2024 20:33

I love going swimming. The smell of the chlorine always brings back happy childhood memories.
But…. Chlorine doesn’t smell. It only smells after reacting with ammonia, which comes from sweat and pee. If you can smell your pool, you are smelling pee.

Please tell me this isn't true Confused

I would never do this. But I am not particularly outraged or disgusted. I am sure it goes on but I prefer not to think about it. It's not actually a health hazard. Urine is sterile. Now a code brown, that's a whole other situation...

Urine is not sterile!

Pupupthenight · 14/05/2024 23:05

I've heard it comes when the chlorine is activated, by pee, sweat, other dirt.

TriesNotToBeCynical · 14/05/2024 23:12

Pupupthenight · 14/05/2024 23:05

Please tell me this isn't true Confused

It is completely untrue! If anything organic matter neutralises the chlorine.

localnotail · 14/05/2024 23:14

Peed in the sea many times, even pooped once when little (don't ever do that, poo will follow you if you try to run away from it, for real!!)

In the pool - never!! Always get out to pee. And taught my kids to do that. People who pee in the pool are gross and probably pee in the bath and sit in it. Yuk.

coupdetonnerre · 14/05/2024 23:14

CloudywMeatballs · 14/05/2024 17:23

No, of course not? Do you? That's disgusting.

I do pee in the ocean but that's completely different.

Why - please explain why one is ok and the other isn't? I wouldn't do either. May as well poo.

coupdetonnerre · 14/05/2024 23:17

PurpleFlower1983 · 14/05/2024 23:00

Sea yes, pool no!

Why ? Why don't you do it in both and why not poo as well. I just want to understand why one is acceptable and not the other.
