To think that most people pee in the pool, on holiday? Do you?

Blondiebeachbabe · 14/05/2024 17:20

Just back from a hot holiday. Hotel had a lovely big pool, with a swim up bar serving all manner of cocktails, wine, beer etc. People would be in the pool for hours drinking, chatting etc. Surely everyone is actually peeing in the pool? And do you?

@MidnightMeltdown he was either having you on, or had misunderstood something. It has never existed, it was just a myth that a lot of people believed!

MidnightMeltdown · 16/05/2024 12:59

@TommyWooWoo well that's what I was told by a lifeguard working there at the time. Said they couldn't use it for this reason

You do get colourants that you put into pool water to make it change colour temporarily. People use it if having a party or just a joosh up the water to make it fancy every now and then.

Perhaps they used this and told people it was a urine indicator hence the water being pink or purple 😃

hamsterchump · 16/05/2024 15:40

doorbellringer2 · 16/05/2024 00:12

Definitely not.
I have a completely rational fear of pools having the chemical in them that turns urine bright blue, and thus, a blue ink cloud would gather round my undercarriage.
Further more - people would gather round me pointing and call me a squid.

Doesn’t everyone?

No, because no such chemical exists, it's a myth.

hamsterchump · 16/05/2024 15:43

MidnightMeltdown · 16/05/2024 12:12

A local pool did this once. They had to stop using the chemical as the whole pool was constantly full of urine.

Definitely puts you off using public swimming pools 🤢

No they didn't because it's impossible so stop lying.

Err. No. Never.

CpOb · 16/05/2024 15:52

This is precisely why I avoid a pool with a swim up bar.

Although I feel like I once read/heard about Olympic swimmers peeing in the pool?

Hoping thats not the case.

sweetpickle2 · 16/05/2024 16:31

I mean I wouldn't personally do it, but I think people are being deliberately obtuse if they think nobody ever pees in a pool.

I love that about MN - the faux shock and bewilderment about very mundane things.

Considering some MN posters pride themselves on how educated, sophisticated and widely travelled they are, it's hilarious that they have conniptions about people only washing their towels twice a week or not showering twice a day.

My favourite was a poster who posted that she'd seen her in-laws put butter on their crackers before cheese and oh my days, had never even heard of such a practice and had to ask MN if they'd ever experienced it.

Cue the "I've eaten cheese in 11 different countries around the world and NEVER seen anyone do this" posts 🤣

WHAT? 😱 Crackers with butter AND cheese are delicious! The butter gives the cheese something to stick to. (I've also used cream cheese and Boursin or herby roulade instead of butter, and sometimes add a chutney or relish as well. 😋 Tesco tomato chutney is one of my favourites.) I've only eaten cheese in the UK, although my tastes are international, (feta, buffalo mozzarella, brie, etc, as well as nice sharp cheddar and Welsh goat's cheese.)

Indeed! Why pretend to be surprised that people are disgusting? Is it an attempt to prove some superior delicacy of nature - that not only do you not do the disgusting thing, but you can’t ever get your dainty little head round the fact that it could even happen 😂

Surely anyone who’s spent any time at all on planet earth knows that people are disgusting? The briefest visit to your average public toilet could assure you of that. Or a quick walk along any popular dog-walking route where you can play dodge the poo. Peeing in a swimming pool is small fry!

I mean now you say it, sure. I don't think of myself as dainty but to me a pool is like a public place. It's the equivalent of asking if people regularly shit in the park. I am genuinely surprised and disgusted that people do this as a matter of course, and it does seem insane to me. I wouldn't want to swim in my own piss, so there would be 0 incentive to do this.

Cupofteaandbiscuits · 17/05/2024 14:07

Not in the pool 🤢
my DC wouldn’t either. Yuck!

Swim nappies definitely do not stop the pee from escaping into the water. Made the mistake of using a swim nappy instead of a normal one for my DS when he was a baby (long car journey and couldn't remember which bag the nappies were in, but had a swim one readily accessible in the swim bag). The urine literally just flowed straight through and onto his clothes, absolute nightmare.

I used swimming nappies when my daughters were younger with neoprene leak proof over swim pants!

It's the extra neoprene layer that contains the wee which is why we only took them off in the shower because the wee trickles out as soon as you start to take them off!

The disposable element of swim nappies are just a liner, they have to be used in combination with a leak proof neoprene over to control wee which is why baby swimming classes absolutely insist on them for lessons!

It’s definitely, definitely not like that at all!

Are you really surprised? Like really, genuinely surprised? I would definitely say most adults don’t do it, but I’m still unsurprised that some would. Because, as I said, people can be really disgusting,

I can’t help feeling that the people who are genuinely surprised must have very limited life experience. And the rest are just doing faux surprise for effect.

I'm a nurse and it's not true that they don't go to the toilet for over 12 hours. Fed up of nurses saying they don't. A wee takes 2 minutes, any nurse can make time for that.

Eek, I never did! My urine would be brown by the time I got home! But then trying to drink anything was very hard too!

Princesspollyyy · 17/05/2024 19:32

@Starlightstargazer

Why though? I've just finished a shift and I've drank 2 litres of water and been for loads of wees. Isn't there a toilet where you work?

I’m not working anymore, but it was literally a case of running up and down the whole time. 10 mums and 10 babies to care for, drug rounds, admissions, discharges, computer paperwork, ward rounds. My head was spinning the whole time! I ended up seriously ill and that’s why I left after 17 years.
anyway I’m derailing the thread!

I used aqua babies, they absolutely insisted on the neoprene over nappy to keep everything in!

No, they're still just to hold in poo - not urine. (The double nappy system is designed as an extra safeguard against poo leaks)

https://www.splashabout.com/helpcentre/swimming-nappies/guide-swimming-nappies

From the Happy Nappy website above, which is the one aqua babies recommend using: "A Swim Nappy, whether disposible or reusable, will not hold water. This of course means they won't hold in urine, but they also won't swell and cause discomfort whilst in the water. "

Good god, no. I would never do that it is absolutely vile. You aren't an animal.

yumyumyumy · 22/05/2024 15:10

Currently in Cyprus. Pregnant and still always get out to wee. It's automatic to get out and I wouldn't expect anyone to swim around in my fluids.

Rebeccajessica · 23/06/2024 21:26

I don't think your being unreasonable at all. I stayed recently at a resort in cuba with no washroom near the pool area at all... it was either walk way up to the lobby bar to use the washroom or walk back to your room...which for me was way across the resort. So I totally get it! Everyone just peed in the pool. The good news is that we all survived the experience and no one got sick or died from the pool water.

Didsomeonesaydr · 30/06/2024 15:07

I, and lots of others, would seriously have walked to the bar, just to not be gross
