Can't help thinking King Charles is selfish

1000 replies

Eieiom · 09/05/2024 11:12

Standing back, looking at the Harry situation, I can't help thinking that Charles is the root of all the family toxicity.

He had an affair while married to Diana, which led to their divorce and much unhappiness on her side. After her early death, his children were obviously in a lot of pain. The remote parenting style of the RF probably did little to soften this.
He's managed to marry his affair partner and now he's cutting off one of his sons.
Harry just looks like a really hurt person acting out to me. In most families, they would just be tolerated and forgiven.
I think the RF look very cold.

@Runnerinthenight Yes, what he and Camilla have in common is a mutual love of Charles and enabling Charles to be Charles, sod everyone else.

I agree, he had nothing in common with Diana, and he married her for purely selfish reasons, as a brood mare, - as you'd expect of a man who cares only for himself.

He coldly and calculatedly married a teenage girl with stars in her eyes about him, knowing he felt nothing, knowingly pretending he did. It's simply awful behaviour.

Runnerinthenight · 10/05/2024 00:22

I think that's a load of crap.

What's your evidence of Charles being "cold and selfish"? Because on all of his engagements, it looks like the exact opposite.

That's shite about the optics! Invictus was handed over to Harry. Charles had 8000 people coming to a garden party. Was he supposed to ditch them?

I certainly don't want a Trump or even a Johnson or any of the other horrible Tories we have been subjected to over the years.

WTF do you expect the King to do about "starving children, freezing pensioners and disabled people"??? They aren't his responsibility! They are the responsibility of our fucking shite government!!!!

What about his engagement today? Is that not good enough for you?

God there are some batshit posts on this board!

Edited

There are multiple garden parties throughout the Summer. He could have not gone to the one on Tuesday and gone to a different one instead. He could have shown some gratitude to the injured veterans who put service above all else, because the RF preach on about service being so bloody important when it suits them.

What do I expect him to do about the problems in this country? Nothing! That’s the whole point. He’s the head of state but serves no purpose. There’s literally no reason for us to have them anymore. And don’t come back with “but tourism…” because no one comes over expecting to have a picnic on the lawn with Camilla, they come to look at the palaces.

I think Harry has blown it by writing his books, Oprah interview, Netflix etc etc etc
Whatever happened to leaving the country due to lack of privacy?!
Personally I feel Meghan mistook the Royal Family for Celebrities and didn't like it when she wasn't in the spotlight
Very sad that Harry lost his DM at such a young age, but he seems angry and hell bent on revenge and bitterness
I have a lot of respect for King Charles and I think Camilla is the love of his life
Harry can't accept this, and even though his DF has cancer, I feel he is uncompromising and Still wants an apology!
If he was mine, I wouldn't trust him to keep conversations to himself plus Chemotherapy is debilitating and at 75, Charles possibly just CBA with the drama
Harry is his own worst enemy.

Harry doesn’t need to be “his own worst enemy.”

He’s got all of you on Mumsnet, hasn’t he.
Wasn’t a question.

StaunchMomma · 10/05/2024 00:31

Charles' priority is his image. It suits him to have a family villain (and yet the real villain of the family has been welcomed back into the fold).

That family will tear themselves to pieces selling stories on each other. Everyone says Harry was awful for going on Oprah & writing a book but at least that was out in the open. The rest of them get staff to sell stories to the press and it's genuinely pathetic.

Harry's better off out of it.

He was pushed into it. Try being under that amount of pressure. I guess he thought he could make it work but it was never going to be a successful marriage. Diana was too dramatic; he was too serious.

I totally disagree with you. Charles and Camilla are of a a similar age and have mutual interests. He never had anything in common with Diana, and that's not the fault of either of them.

@RogueFemale
I think you are spot on. His grandmother and her friends promoted Diana. A teenager. I remember being horrified. She looked like a baby dressed as a 49 year old. She was not allowed to be young and carefree for very long and didn't seem to have any interests she could share with Charles. I think he didn't have it in him to be with Camilla when he had the chance. He did what he thought would please his family and kept Camilla as his mistress. It's pretty awful behaviour. Yes. Camilla helps him. She is perhaps the only one who could put up with him.

Camilla was also in love with Andrew(?) Parker Bowles.

My mum said when she watched the wedding with my Aunty they both gasped in horror when Diana stepped out her carriage and her full dress was there for all to see. She looked bloody awful but I don’t think she looked like she was just 20 years old

That is total and utter bollocks. Why would he want to have a "family villain"? He loves both his sons but has been dissed by one of them!

TheFairyCaravan · 10/05/2024 00:15

I think King Charles is cold and selfish.

The Monarch is the head of the Armed Forces so, imo, he should have gone to the Invictus Service, not for Harry, but for every single veteran in that cathedral who’d been injured while serving his mother, and perhaps him. The service would have been arranged months in advance so he could have put it in his diary. By not going, or at least not sending another member of the RF, he’s sending the message that the veterans aren’t worthy. The optics are terrible.

The whole RF lark is a sham. They’re a waste of money and we don’t need them anymore. People always say “well we could end up with someone like Trump”. So what? The King doesn’t intervene now when we’ve got starving children, freezing pensioners, and disabled people being left on the scrap heap.

Why would he go to Invictus? Harry is there and he supports plenty of military causes all year round.

he did actually visit army barracks today BTW

And politics should absolutely be down to the politicians! The RF should only support charities that help these causes not make decision as unelected people

She wasn’t a teenager.

And I’m sure she had stats in her eyes about being a Princess, encouraged by every single person around her.

I don’t actually buy that she was in love with Charles.

So the monarch doesn’t go to the planned garden party so that he can go see his petulant son who lied about him and makes money out of trying to destroy the RF?

Camilla knew she could never marry Charles as things stood, so she went for the next best thing. APB was considered quite a catch, and had had many girlfriends.

I don't agree that Diana looked "bloody awful". Her dress was of its time. Yes, it was a bit wrinkled but that was the fabric it was made from.

I went to see her wedding dress when it was on display on Kensington Palace and I was mesmerised, thinking of wearing it. My own (also designer but not as high profile!) a few years later wasn't dissimilar.

It was awful because he told so many lies, and dragged his family through the mud with his perpetual victim wife

It’s a Matter of opinion - I think mum put it well when she said “Diana didn’t wear the dress, the dress wore her”

mind you I’m not a fan of most Royal wedding looks. Kate is beyond beautiful but the Madonna boobs and heavy make up did not suit her.

Eugiene looked lovely though

Beatrice wearing her granny’s dress was very touching but she looked like a bride wearing granny’s dress

Fergie‘s 🤮

My favourite by a country mile was Meghan’s. Classic and stunning. She got some flack on here for it being badly fitted but I thought it fit perfectly and thought it was refreshing to see a woman who wasn’t either stuffed into her dress or had great big gaps everywhere

This is where I sadly have to disagree with you! Her dress was typical of what brides were wearing back then. I still regret the huge bow on my arse, but it was of its time!

I thought Meghan's dress was very poorly fitted, sorry! Fergie's was also of its time.
