Can't help thinking King Charles is selfish

Standing back, looking at the Harry situation, I can't help thinking that Charles is the root of all the family toxicity.

He had an affair while married to Diana, which led to their divorce and much unhappiness on her side. After her early death, his children were obviously in a lot of pain. The remote parenting style of the RF probably did little to soften this.
He's managed to marry his affair partner and now he's cutting off one of his sons.
Harry just looks like a really hurt person acting out to me. In most families, they would just be tolerated and forgiven.
I think the RF look very cold.

I was around too. I was in 6th form when it was announced that they were engaged. There was huge pressure on Charles and had been for some time, to settle down.

There were a lot more than 3 people in the marriage, when you count in Diana's numerous lovers! Diana wasn't completely shafted! She acquired money, power and influence that otherwise she could only have dreamed of.

Can you blame her having numerous lovers though? The person she was married to had no interest in her, from the get go.

Think about that. He was ringing Camilla the evening before marrying Diana.

Runnerinthenight · 09/05/2024 19:36

Do you know that for a fact?

She said so in an interview. She told her sisters she had cold feet and they told her it was too late to back out. “Your face is on the tea towels Duch”.

I think Harry might be the only one of them with a bit of emotional intelligence. But then I liked his book and couldn’t see anything offensive in it 🤷‍♀️What was clear though, was that he loves his dad, even though his dad is emotionally unavailable.

Harry - "emotional intelligence" - are you having a laugh?!!

If you "couldn't see anything offensive in it", well, words actually fail me.

How do you know Charles is "emotionally unavailable" - because a proven liar says so?!

She said that to Andrew Morton. We don't know if that actually happened.

Diana was a teenager. Charles was32 years old. It was a disgrace. And I thought so at the time.

There is a thread on MN at the moment about older men getting into relationships with very young women. The consensus is that it is really tacky. And I recall a lot of people saying this at the time about Charles & Diana.

Runnerinthenight · 09/05/2024 19:41

Livingtothefull · 09/05/2024 19:37

There are quite enough members of the RF - the ones we are still paying for, unlike Meghan - who don't have much of a work ethic. Meghan & Harry left years ago, whether people like them is really neither here nor there.

Yeah - diversion. Great.

Having serial seedy affairs with married men? Justify that, why don't you. Making nuisance calls. Generally behaving as if she was unhinged.

Think about that.

"And nobody ticks the form to say they have used drugs unless they have been convicted. Absolutely no one."

Including me!

I can tick the form to say 'no' in complete honesty.

Yeah - diversion. Great.

I think that pointing out the difference between individuals funded by public money and those who are not is hugely significant. That is not 'diversion'.

EconomyClassRockstar · 09/05/2024 19:45

The fact Charles is getting the majority of the public sympathy pretty much sums up how successful his rebranding campaign over the last 20 years has been. Cannot stand the man and can’t believe he gets to call himself King when he can’t even sort out his own house.

Her harassment of Oliver Hoare actually was investigated by the police.

He gets to call himself King because that is his title by law. He is the monarch.

You really believe that Harry and Meghan aren't after money?

The whole extended Royal Family sucks off the teat of the Monarchy their whole lives! Do we really think Zara and Peter Phillips pay thrur own way? At least without selling their family connections. The York girls did non jobs where they basically had to put thrir names on some letterheads until they married rich. They all live off handouts from The King.

Runnerinthenight · 09/05/2024 19:48

Livingtothefull · 09/05/2024 18:46

If she was that much of a social climber she would do better to have stayed put in the RF surely?

Can I remind you that this is what your post said, which I answered. You then started rabbiting on about there being too many people in the RF! Bit non sequitur, IMO!

Vile, crude comment.

That's a bit more honest than slagging him off for money, though, a la Sussex..

I can't help thinking that Charles is the root of all the family toxicity- It's rarely that simple in any family.
We only know what we hear which is heavily filtered and sometimes manipulated.
When members of the royal family have spoken directly in interviews they haven't really done themselves any favours. Best not to comment and be thought to be at fault than to open your mouth and remove doubt.

Runnerinthenight · 09/05/2024 19:50

Mirabai · 09/05/2024 19:49

So two wrongs make a right do they? Do you condone her pursuit of married men?

Clarabell77 · 09/05/2024 19:51

YANBU. They are all oddities with no grip on reality or understanding of real relationships. Harry has found some of this with Meghan.

BIossomtoes · 09/05/2024 19:51

I can blame her for breaking Julia Carling’s heart. She’d only been married five minutes when her husband had an affair with Diana.
