I’m addicted to crafting

Ok. This is obviously lighthearted but I can’t stop crafting.

I am starting to think I might have a problem. I crochet, knit, macrame, sew, do patchwork.

I restore/upcycle furniture and no, thanks to fucking YouTube some air drying clay is arriving tomorrow.

I also decorate cakes and bake.

Toying with a pottery class now.

Am thinking I need more excitement in my life.

And a garden studio.

@SoupDragon I’ve just bought some fabric for new cushion covers and I’m thinking my sideboard and dining table could be painted to match…

@Cerialkiller tell me about fantasy map drawing?!

HAHA, it goes with my writing. I'm writing a fantasy story and I always loved those fictional maps at the front of fantasy book so i'm doing one for my story. Its actually a city map for a fortress city that is the location for most of the plot.

Binglebong · 06/05/2024 20:23

I describe myself as a series crafter. For some reason I always find it a surprise that while I'm no good at drawing I don't suddenly become good if I use a different media. Strange that!

I bet I could beat all your stashes though...I have a room FULL and multiple overflows.

sevenseasoftea · 06/05/2024 20:26

I love crafting as well and would love to take up pottery. However I'm an artist as my fulltime job so I try to do something more active in my spare time or I find I am sitting down too much as my other great love is reading.

However we are all born to be creative in some way so I say embrace it and get that garden studio!

I have heart failure so trying to find new hobbies on the cheap. I've discovered I knit and crochet knots and I get more paint on me than the paper but my son introduced me to book nooking and I love it, Am now looking for a Dolls House to renovate and spend hours making bookshelves from coffee stirs and vases from beads. New to it so only small table and some storage boxes but see how it takes over

I LOVE this!

Oh dear...I feel like i've introduced a new party drug to a problem smoker😅

Well you will need equipment, luckily its free! I use Krita which is a free painting software, similar to photoshop. You will need to research how to do it on you tube, look up maps etc. I traversed bits of real coastline as inspiration for my shapes.

Since you are one of about 3 people in the world who are interested, here it is in draft form.

I love those maps! It's the only flaw with a Kindle (although I sometimes have the map open in the app on my iPad).

I used to draw maps as a teenager.

My children thought it would be a good idea to buty me a 3d printer for Christmas so I have now added "dipping my toe into 3d design" to my list of Things I Do

If it helps, I buy all the equipment and then don't start the crafting. I think my hobby is planning to craft.

Same here. All the gear, no idea.

SoupDragon · 06/05/2024 21:32

I bought a cricut at the start of the first lockdown 😂

I started with a small basket, then one of those cloth drawer units.

It’s now a 5x5 Kallax a, desk and a sideboard.

I have found my people! I have a craft room and I love it. I often sit and look at all mymlovely
lovely things that will probably never be used up but the possibilities make me genuinely happy!

I had a lot of fun making little paper houses to put battery tea lights in at Christmas. They had coloured tissue paper windows.

i make occasional cards for people, on a one off basis for special occasions. Most recently a complicated SpongeBob one for DS1 who had mentioned his favourite joke from the series. He's 25 😂

My husband found me with a pile of fat quarters the other day just folding, re-folding, and stroking them.

I will add to the list of craft hobbies and buying materials . When I get the bug for something new I spend hours watching those YouTube tutorials.

For the purposes of this we will pretend that my "stash" is confined to the old wooden stationery cupboard in the playroom* and ignore the yarn stash in the loft (and the living room and the bedroom) and the fabric (loft and kitchen) and the wood (garage) paper (playroom) 3d filament (playroom) dying stuff (playroom).... So. Much. Stuff.

*it used to be the playroom when the kids were small. Technically it's a dining room.

WildCherryBlossom · 06/05/2024 21:39

Just stepping in briefly to fess up to a massive crafting habit and even more massive stash. Currently trying to work out how to reorganise and store it all. Love the huge Kallax idea (but I would have to sell one or more of the children to fit in a 5x5 Kallax) Mostly fabric crafts - sewing (clothes, soft furnishings etc), knitting, embroidery etc.

SoupDragon · 06/05/2024 21:41

Stroking craft supplies is a valid use of them and a perfectly normal hobby.

Merryoldgoat · 06/05/2024 21:48

I feel so validated 🤩

@Merryoldgoat Book Nooking is small book size scene's I'm working on a flower shop atm. Imagine making tiny clay vases and flowers from various bits of crap. Furniture from wood scraps. I would say youtube it but I think thats probably a phase best avoided on this thread. I am very jealous of everyones stashes.
