I’m addicted to crafting

Ok. This is obviously lighthearted but I can’t stop crafting.

I am starting to think I might have a problem. I crochet, knit, macrame, sew, do patchwork.

I restore/upcycle furniture and no, thanks to fucking YouTube some air drying clay is arriving tomorrow.

I also decorate cakes and bake.

Toying with a pottery class now.

Am thinking I need more excitement in my life.

And a garden studio.

@Merryoldgoat Book Nooking is small book size scene's I'm working on a flower shop atm. Imagine making tiny clay vases and flowers from various bits of crap. Furniture from wood scraps. I would say youtube it but I think thats probably a phase best avoided on this thread. I am very jealous of everyones stashes.

😮😮😮

That sounds brilliant.

Bollocks.

My husband found me with a pile of fat quarters the other day just folding, re-folding, and stroking them.

I got some new leather the other day. I was sitting stroking it.

I'm retired and am living my best life, I spend all day at the gym or doing crafts. I do the thinks other people mention, knitting, crochet, patchwork and embroidery but I also spin, dye fabric and fibre, wet felt and needle felt, weave, tat and best of all make bobbin lace. I also draw and am experimenting with water colours.
I can make Dorset buttons.
Everyone should try spinning, it is as good as meditation for me.

Binglebong · 06/05/2024 22:22

This Facebook group is really inspiring for anyone who is interested in doll houses. The skill and imagination is incredible.

Oooh Dorset buttons are pretty!

I tell DS1 that I am getting rid of craft stash by making things which I will donate to the Woolly Hugs Christmas Craft Sale and that it is thus a chore.

He disagrees. I think it's about time he moved out.

Mossstitch · 06/05/2024 23:09

Hi👋 my name is mossstitch and I'm a knitting addict!
If I don't have two full baskets of yarn at any one time I start getting twitchy🥴

aliasname · 06/05/2024 23:28

i only crochet with occasional forays into sewing or making chutney, but then have to stop before it becomes obsessive.

nobody has yet mentioned Kumihimo. Cute craft, cheap, and hardly takes up any room. I just love having something to do with my hands.

aliasname · 06/05/2024 23:31

Oh no, it’s just occurred to me that I could make Kumihimo fringes to add to my crochet projects…

DazedAndKerfuddled · 06/05/2024 23:37

I sit and make chainmail while watching tv of an evening, find it super therapeutic 😅 i sell enough now that im actually considering giving up my day job to turn it into a real business 😅 its like knitting but with metal lol

@Merryoldgoat you would be surprised, i make jewellery and trinkets, sheets with logos for displays for other crafters, cosplay items, kink items too 😅 its surprisingly popular 😅

Enjoy your hobbies 🧶🪡🧁

MistressoftheDarkSide · 06/05/2024 23:52

Sneaks guiltily onto thread

Me too. Current circumstances mean my embarrassingly extensive stash is boxed because I have to move soon and may have to go into storage 😭

I'm consoling myself by haunting Pinterest and collecting ideas. I love wearable art and upcycled jewellery and junk journaling. I want to live in Bohemian Gothic shabby chic upcycled splendour.

One day. One day.

Lol. Kumihimo is amazing, the different patterns are so creative and all from a small 3” disc and a few bits of yarn! I haven’t used my disc for years, but now have a sudden urge to dig it out 😆

MaMisled · 07/05/2024 00:09

Oh I just love crafting! I knit and sew, make wooden things, paint and do pyrography. My downstairs is a chaotic jumble of delights....wool, embellishments, raw wood, baskets of paint and pens, a pyrography machine, sewing box, fat quarters, knives, scissors, glue, ribbons, tins of varnish, sanders, tracing and graphite paper.....It brings me so much joy!

Mathsbabe · 07/05/2024 00:30

Inkle loom weaving is both great fun and also is marketable. You can make guitar straps and individualised bands for things like suitcases. As well as wonderful patterns you can easily weave letters, words and numbers. A loom is mostly less than £100 and does not take up much space. You can use cotton yarn.

RawBloomers · 07/05/2024 00:45

Do the pottery class, OP. It's so much fun.

CoffeeCantata · 07/05/2024 07:25

@gocompare
What I do is to rummage for a decent frame (some are naff and unsuitable) which has a nice mount and glass etc, then take it apart to clean it. I then have to paint my masterpiece (😀) to the precise size. This has worked well for me so far, but of course you're not always lucky when searching! It wouldn't really work, I don't think, to do it the other way round - that is to try to find a frame for an already completed painting.

@Exasperateddonut
I think I meant to say eBay! Sorry. What I did was to put a search in for 'SusieWatsonDesigns linen' and some offcuts came up. These were still pricey, and some quite small, but there were some you could make cushions from when I looked - or if you wanted to make little bags, bunting or stuffed decorations to hang they'd be fine. But I then put in a search for 'Indian print linen fabric' or similar and I got some lovely things, very similar to SW's, in heavy Ikat weave which at well under £20 - and big enough for about 3 cushions. Just been on again and seen some other gorgeous Indian block-printed designs with faded pink leaves on a natural beige linen. Yum!

Now, the braid is really expensive if you want the nicest, but on Etsy I got some tassel braid (cotton in a jute colour) like the stuff SW uses, and also some looped braid. I will get back to you with the company I bought from (it's my husband's birthday today and we're off out for the day!).

Just a warning if you look for braid: watch out for the American or overseas sellers - they have some lovely stuff but by the time taxes and postage have been added, it's a shocking price, so you have to be a bit careful. I wouldn't be so bothered about the price if I was an expert seamstress, but I'm not - so I wouldn't risk using really expensive stuff, but that's just me!

Hope this helps.

I have a whopping great craft addiction, mainly knitting, crochet, cross stitch, drawing and journaling/scrapbooking. I have some health issues and am about to be made redundant so I’m planning to take some time off work. Which is definitely to focus on my health and not sink deeper into said addiction. Am also thinking to treat myself to some kind of course but am torn between dressmaking, painting and pottery…

SoupDragon · 07/05/2024 07:40

Well, I've just discovered I can print myself a Kumihimo disc on my 3d printer so thanks for that... 😂

I think we need to have a permanent rehab thread in the Arts and Crafts topic.

TeamPolin · 07/05/2024 07:45

Me too, OP!

I actually find my mental health is worse if I don't do any for a few days. It's a real mood boost to get my stash out and crack on with a project.
