There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

On another suggestion . As you live in a village maybe it’s rural and you know someone who can tow it ? A few months ago someone parked on my private road , only me and my neighbour use it to go to our houses . I as blocked home so couldn’t leave and she was blocked to come home so her hubby got his brother to drag the car out of the way with a tractor and left it by the side of the main road . We are yet to know who it was but the car was gone after a few hours .

Can anyone enlighten me as to what happens at village fetes and whether it might carry on into the evening?. . . our local church fete runs from 2.00 to 5.00 and, to be quite honest, it's more of an outdoor jumble sale!!!!

If there's a hog roast and a beer tent, she could be a while ...

perimumma · 05/05/2024 18:26

Come on OP, what's going on now? 🍿

Somethingsnappy · 05/05/2024 18:27

Looking forward to the update!

All the talk of fete frolics has reminded me of something funny. We moved into our house (in an archetypal country village) 20 years ago and invited my sister to stay. It happened to be the weekend of the village fete, so we went along to investigate. We had a wander around, a scone and some cheap ciders, then decided to have a go at some of the games. The local WI had (quite innocently, and very naively) put together 10 jars full of mystery substances, which we were allowed to look at, shake and smell. The game was called 'Guess the white powders'. Sis and I were pretty young, and a bit tipsy. There was no end of giggling and piss-taking as we tried to refrain from writing down the names of various illicit substances. Of course, it was boring stuff like salt, sugar, custard powder, etc. I bet we weren't the only ones who found it hilarious though. In fact, I think we might have suggested that the prize for guessing them all correctly should be to keep said white powders!

Are you sure that you don’t know the person who has parked there? Many moons ago a regular on MN had the exact same thing- turns out her teen son had told a friend that it was no worries to park on the drive but had failed to inform his parents!

That has inspired me: If/when the CF knocks on your door asking you to let them out, you could greet them with "Oh hello Jason! ...What do you mean, you aren't Jason?? I told my neighbour her brother Jason could park on my drive for the weekend while he's visiting her." (baffled look) "YOU AREN'T JASON?? But your car is on my drive?! Why is your car on my drive?!"

You know your husband’s going to park elsewhere, don’t you? Mine would tell me not to be so petty and move the car.

Really? Mine would cheer me on! It's not petty. It's what the CFs deserve!

dreadisabaddog · 05/05/2024 18:32

@BirthdayRainbow massive hugs. Not my thread and glad this OP cheered you up but know you're not alone and there's Mumsnet solidarity and unmumsnetty hugs for you

Libertysparkle · 05/05/2024 18:32

How rude.

I don't even like turning round near someone's drive (never on)

I live near to a school and our neighbour across the road has a massive drive that he pretty much lives in to make sure nobody can turn around on it 😂

Thank you @KnitnNatterAuntie do you mind if I hit STBEH over the head with the flowers?

Just shamelessly placemarking for the updates 🤣

dreadisabaddog · 05/05/2024 18:37

@BirthdayRainbow been there! Lets not derail this thread and my inbox is always open but with the caveat the kids have norovirus today so I'll be slower than normal to reply ❤️

Overinvested and placemarking 😝

I wonder if the OP has got embroiled in Guess The Weight Of The Sheep or some other country fete activity and has lost track of time. Either that or she’s got off her tits on cider and has crushed the CF’s car with a handy combine harvester whilst singing The Wurzels.

Oh I do hope so. What a mental image that has conjured up! 😅

Same. OH and I share the crazy gene. He would be parking as close to the door as he could while my car was an inch from the boot.

IncompleteSenten · 05/05/2024 18:39

People don't think big enough
Would have been so much fun to leave a note saying
Hi Janet, love the new car!! Didn't realise you were swapping your old one but it looks lovely. Had to park behind you as we were in a rush to get to the airport. Spare car keys are in the usual place so you can swap the cars round. Thanks so much for house sitting. See you in a fortnight. Love x
