There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

Another shameless follower.

Years ago we had a regular drive parker but we didn't know! We live near a school and at collection time they parked in our driveway. It was only when DH was off work poorly one day that he saw them. Went out to ask what they were doing and they were very surprised to be caught out. We now both work partially from home now so have made an effort to close the gate or leave stuff on the drive (gotta love that basketball hoop and stand) so they don't bother. See the car often though and we always give it evils.

We bought a farm house near a school. The farmhouse had been empty for a few years.
We had a parent come into the farmyard and get her young son out to do a wee against the barn!

They walk amongst us 😳

dapsnotplimsolls · 05/05/2024 17:24

Cheeky placemark.

Alwaysalwayscold · 05/05/2024 17:25

The potential outcomes are endless!

KnitnNatterAuntie · 05/05/2024 17:25

I think the OP has popped into the village church for Evensong . . . . .

I'm also invested. Well done, OP. There's nothing quite like a Sunday afternoon CF parking thread.

And in a village, too!

ZekeZeke · 05/05/2024 17:27

Love your update OP, looking forward to hearing the next chapter

thismummydrinksgin · 05/05/2024 17:28

Update please OP!!!

unsync · 05/05/2024 17:31

Of course you won't be able to move the car now after fête wine, what a shame.

thismummydrinksgin · 05/05/2024 17:32

CJ0374 · 05/05/2024 14:20

Leave a note on their car:

Hola CF,
We have gone to Majorca for 2 weeks 😂

This 😂😂

Yes, it's a fete accompli . . . .

JFDIYOLO · 05/05/2024 17:33

WHAT'S HAPPENING

I CANNOT BEAR THE SUSPENSE

DarkDarkNight · 05/05/2024 17:33

Carry on at the fete and leave them stewing. When you get home close the curtains, settle in for the night and don’t open the door. Cheeky fuckers can wait.

Latenightanxiety · 05/05/2024 17:33

I would risk a fine and if I got one I’d leave my car even longer seeing as I’ve already been fined for the parking! Unless the idiot on my drive maybe offered to pay it 😂

EmilyTheCriminal · 05/05/2024 17:35

It's worth paying a fine if you can annoy a CF!

A brief update (no conclusion yet sorry)

  1. We left the car as per diagram. Took plenty of photos of both cars.
  2. I am settled in at the fete, in a slightly damp gazebo drinking slightly warm white wine with friends. We are reading through all these comments and having a massive giggle. Everyone loves a drama.
  3. We didn't leave a note as my DD quite craftily pointed out - they don't know it's our car, they probably think we're a fellow CF (I've paraphrased, but genuinely proud of her deviousness)
I will post again later x

Glad you’re having a lovely time with your friends. You all sound super fun. Wish I was there too (if that’s not too bold!) Of course now you’ve been drinking you won’t be able to move your car. Such a shame……

MeridianB · 05/05/2024 17:35

Well done, OP. These CFs are unbelievable. Have a ton of fun at the fete and make them squirm for as long as possible!

Rightsraptor · 05/05/2024 17:40

No more up dares for 2.5h! I'm dying here. OP has no consideration.

Sorry, I haven't read the whole thread but on a similar one a police officer came on to say it's illegal to prevent someone from joining the public highway. Or was it leaving the public highway? One of them. But it may well be worth it.

Boomer84 · 05/05/2024 17:43

Ohhh please update us OP! I’m having a very boring Sunday but this is juicy!
can you post pictures on your village Facebook to try and shame the CFs?

DominoRules · 05/05/2024 17:45

It’s so frustrating when this happens! We had a repeat offender on our drive (a very obvious drive) - DH was working from home and stuck on a call the first couple of times and by time he’d finished it had moved. The third time he had a quick break so went and put a note on the car explaining it was a driveway so do not park again……. The fourth time I arrived home with an exceptionally muddy dog and had to park down the road. I may have accidentally let him shake numerous times on her light car leaving nice mud splats. Then stood in wait in the doorway. Half an hour later and the woman came back, started saying that it was an emergency and she’d only just got there. When I said we had photos of her car on the drive on numerous other occasions (it was always the same day and time) she got really arsey and said we weren’t allowed to take photos and that she’d also be sending me a bill to wash her car due to the mud - I did lose my temper, I did shout and swear but never did get the bill and she hasn’t done it again. I’ve since seen her in the coffee shop on the corner at that day and time and the car parked at the butchers further down the road (customer only parking) so clearly an immense CF

The post was harking back to a very famous and long running parking thread where the OP was on the Isle of Wight. I think she installed penguin bollards. It was very funny.

[God I've been on MN for a long time].

That post was so good, and glad you got the reference!!

Rosiestraws · 05/05/2024 17:46

bookmarking for the update... well done Op!

PossumintheHouse · 05/05/2024 17:46

I bet they'll get all shouty with you and claim they thought it was their friend's driveway or some similar bollocks.

Silvers11 · 05/05/2024 17:47

Just posting for the update!!

Are you sure that you don’t know the person who has parked there? Many moons ago a regular on MN had the exact same thing- turns out her teen son had told a friend that it was no worries to park on the drive but had failed to inform his parents!

I thought the same thing. Who actually parks on the private drive of some random house? I'd put money on teen friend or Aunt Bertha calling for a visit.
