Abhorrent comments made about a persons height

Calling someone who is below the average height, "pint-sized" is abhorrent
at the very least. A person's height is beyond the person's control and calling them "pint-sized," some may even say it's an ableist comment

Yesterday, during the PMQ's the lead was taken by the deputy heads of both Tories and Labour. Standing in for the Labour leader was Angela Rayner. She called the Tory leader, Rishi Sunak a "pint-sized leader" when she was losing the arugument

This reminds me of clowns at work who had nicknames for other people who did not fit in with their agenda. Often people will make disparaging comments about another when they feel threatened because of their own inadequacies.
Should she apologise for making these disgusting comments?

AIBU to believe these comments were necessary, inappropriate and disgustingly abhorrent.

Angela Rayner aims ‘pint-sized loser’ jibe at Rishi Sunak during PMQs

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden countered the criticism by mocking the Labour deputy over her housing arrangements.

Rayner was quoting Nadine Dorries.

I am interested that you are not commenting on calling the Prime Minister a loser.
Is that because that is a widely accepted fact?

Was she? This just keeps getting better. 😂

Not only that but Nadine liked the tweets showing the clip -

It's in Nadine Dorries's tome of betrayal, "The Plot" where she tears into Sunak for dethroning Boris.

These Tories. So rude and abhorrent

Goldenbear · 25/04/2024 11:05

Is he even that short, he doesn’t look really short, except when standing next to Cameron or someone quite tall. Was Boris Johnson very tall?

PostItInABook · 25/04/2024 11:09

The behaviour in the House of Commons has always been ridiculous. It’s just a bunch of complete buffoons carrying on their school days. I remember seeing some of it on the news as a teenager and remarking to my mum how stupid their behaviour was. Nothing has changed. They’re all the same and all it does is make decent, normal, hardworking people dislike and distrust them even more.

It’s the same with election campaigns. All they do is slag the opposition off. I don’t give a shit what they think of each other. I want to know what their own policies and plans are, but all their stupid leaflets are full of shite about how that person in the opposition hasn’t done that blah blah.

Winston Churchill was the same height 5f6. I am really surprised to read that Nlair was 6ft, I thought he was shorter than that.

Goldenbear · 25/04/2024 11:09

Blair not Nlair

I recall he did okay. Won a war or something...

Iwasafool · 25/04/2024 11:11

Sunak and Zelensky look about the same height. Which one comes across as pint sized? Sometimes we are thinking more about ability and courage rather than just focus on the physical aspect of size.

No, just wide. But loud and egotistical enough he seemed to take up far more space.

Also, Zelensky looks stronger and has stronger features and different expressions.

Yes, the width, the overall bombastic approach makes someone appear bigger than they are.

Theresa May was actually only 5ft 6, again long legs made her look taller.

And he doesn't freeze his mouth into a rictus grin when speaking to ordinary people.

Apart from a clip I remember when he met Trump he always looks comfortable and confident. I can forgive him the Trump moment as I can't imagine feeling comfortable with him.

Alexandra2001 · 25/04/2024 11:28

Brilliant comment by Rayner, especially after Dowling made stupid and unproven remarks about her living arrangements.

For too long Labour have had to endure some pretty awful remarks from various Tory MPs/PMs.... and ARs comment was far less insulting than a Tory PM saying Starmer failed to prosecute Saville, which even some Tories thought was terrible.

Pint sized? of course he is but also i feel Rayner was also referring to his inability to run the country or his party.

He's a couple of inches shorter than Johnson I think. He's about 5'6. Same as Zelensky apparently. And there was footage of him meeting Olaf Scholz yesterday who can't have been any taller really.

Taller than Olaf I think, Emmanuel Macron is 5ft 7, my DH is 5ft8 but he looks bigger than that as has a broad chest and shoulders- not that this is particularly relevant to political leaders as he isn’t one!

Haydenn · 25/04/2024 09:47

You should know better than this. When someone on the right says something inappropriate then they should resign. When someone on the left says it people “struggle to get worked up” or “it’s always like that in the House of Commons”

If it’s the worst thing Raynor does this week though I’d be surprised….

Utter bollocks although it does follow a tendency I've noticed for Rayner haters to be unable to even spell her last name.

CountingCrones · 25/04/2024 11:40

Sunak's 5'5" or possibly 5'6", judging by his height when he's next to not-short-arses.

He claims to be 5'7", but given the inflation the rest of us have suffered, I suppose an inch or two is pretty restrained of him.

Verv · 25/04/2024 11:41

Rayner is one of those insufferable "I tell it like it is!" women. Not very bright, and anticipates an Oscar for every tedious insult that she manages to expel.

If she was on a checkout nobody would pay her any attention.

bombastix · 25/04/2024 11:43

But strangely she isn't on a checkout. She could be, but has done rather well for herself.

Was she only supposed to do that in a specially Tory way?

Well, she is going to be deputy PM soon, so cry harder as the young folk say.
