Abhorrent comments made about a persons height

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 25/04/2024 09:30

Calling someone who is below the average height, "pint-sized" is abhorrent
at the very least. A person's height is beyond the person's control and calling them "pint-sized," some may even say it's an ableist comment

Yesterday, during the PMQ's the lead was taken by the deputy heads of both Tories and Labour. Standing in for the Labour leader was Angela Rayner. She called the Tory leader, Rishi Sunak a "pint-sized leader" when she was losing the arugument

This reminds me of clowns at work who had nicknames for other people who did not fit in with their agenda. Often people will make disparaging comments about another when they feel threatened because of their own inadequacies.
Should she apologise for making these disgusting comments?

AIBU to believe these comments were necessary, inappropriate and disgustingly abhorrent.

Angela Rayner aims ‘pint-sized loser’ jibe at Rishi Sunak during PMQs

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden countered the criticism by mocking the Labour deputy over her housing arrangements.

You should know better than this. When someone on the right says something inappropriate then they should resign. When someone on the left says it people “struggle to get worked up” or “it’s always like that in the House of Commons”

If it’s the worst thing Raynor does this week though I’d be surprised….

Everanewbie · 25/04/2024 09:48

Abhorrent is a bit too strong though.

Well she's not very intelligent in my opinion.
She's all ignorant and lacking interlect.

Until yesterday, I'd never heard this woman speak. Having watched her throw insults yesterday and they way she countered the the opposition, I totally agree with you.
IMO, this woman is a total embarrassment to the Labour party, hence the Labour leader steering clear of her recent woes as per recent news items re property

Abhorrent is a strong word.

But I agree she shouldn't have said it.

bombastix · 25/04/2024 09:50

But you are all talking about PMQs!

How stupid is Angela Rayner? I think she seems cleverer than might first appear.

Aaron95 · 25/04/2024 09:52

It's PMQ's. Neither side ever actually answers the questions, they just deflect and shout nsults at each other for 30 minutes trying to come up with the best 1-liner which will make the news.

"I struggle to get worked up about this" = "I know it was wrong, but they're on the team I support so I can't say anything bad about them"

CountingCrones · 25/04/2024 09:45

Abhorrent? He’s short. So what?

The last prime minister was a shambling haystack - no, the last but one, I was forgetting the swivel-eyed loon who was outlasted by a lettuce - and the current one is short. It’s not polite to call him names about that, but since when has the HoC been polite?

It’s not ableist, for goodness sake.

You are joking??
So you go around calling people that are above average weight, fat? There are many more examples I and others could give, but there is no point as you know what you have posted is unacceptable.

Calling people names is done for one reason only, and that is to hurt them as the the person that is calling names has lost the arguments and or not up to their job

bombastix · 25/04/2024 09:54

And she did, didn't she. She made Penny Mourdant smirk and a few others.

Angels Rayner is not stupid

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator

You’d never heard her speak before yesterday?

Please explain why you believe you qualify for your username?

LuckysDadsHat · 25/04/2024 09:57

I can't be bothered about this. We used to work with someone called Tony who was very small and he never minded his nickname of Shetland Tony. Like in work, politics is a lot of banter like this.

Comedycook · 25/04/2024 09:57

Insults in the HoC don't particularly bother me but I don't think they should throw insults about things which someone has zero control of....

LunaNorth · 25/04/2024 09:57

”John Prescott in a skirt” I think she called herself. She knows exactly what she’s doing.

As a fellow intelligent, working class woman, I’d love to see us represented by someone with a bit of dignity. Alas.

Really.

Ask my friend, freind at school that was mocked for their lack of height every name under the sun. That friend of mine laughed it off at school. Then meeting this school fried by checne when out of hols we started talking about school and the person told me they fear coming into school and taking sick time off when they were not sick - it still happened now but that person now works for themselves and doing well but admitted it still hurts when they hear or know people are cing names etc

The comment on Rayner the more I understand how much the Conservatives hate her. She is going to beat them. That is to me very funny. And this line which certainly amused a few Conservatives (you watch the faces) is pretty good evidence of her confidence.

Can’t imagine multi-millionaire Rishi Sunak loses much sleep over it.

I do wonder how he struggles to find trousers that are long enough, though.

I'm sure he doesn't....but it also doesn't mean it's ok.

Brave to post this on mums net considering mumsnet is super left wing OP! I mean - its rude of her, but she is usually quite rude is she not?

No I’m not joking. (And I am fat) And I haven’t said anything unacceptable.

Hell, Have I Got New For You used a tub of lard in place of Johnson when he didn’t show up. “Calling people name is done for one purpose…” - no, it’s done for many purposes, and one is to puncture their arrogance, another to raise a laugh.

It’s PMQs. Quoting a description in a Tory’s memoir to the Tory MP it referred to isn’t abhorrent, it’s part of the cut and thrust (however blunt the instruments) of PMQ.

It’s a daft showboating tradition where no one answers anything and the best they can hope for is a sound bite on the news.

I’m sure his wife’s family have enough minions to have special trousers woven from spider silk for him.

I suspect billionaires rarely have to nip to Burton’s for kecks.

Harvestfestivalknickers · 25/04/2024 10:13

It's such a shame the Labour front bench are such a poor bunch of politicians. The country is crying out for a new government, it should be an open goal for Starmer. Instead, I see no manifesto, a lack lustre leader and a front bench stuffed full of forgettable names and faces. Rayner is no stateswoman. I want to see leadership, competence and professionalism in my elected representatives. Not behaviour more akin to a school playground.

Thank you.
However, it does not make it right, its wrong on every level and thousands of people get called names like this IRL and have to put up with ti. Many people become depressed and scared to go out, their confidence is undermined and more
It was disgusting, uncalled for, necessary and abhorrent.

Just imagine Labour gets into number ten and then the membership soon after vote this ignorant woman in as leader/pm - we will be seriously stuffed just like we were with Mrs Truss.

Just because you "don't mind" millions do and that is a fact as its wrong on every level.

Indeed 😂

No doubt they’ll be off to the US again post haste following the election, where his short trousers will fit right in.

Those worrying about poor Rishi’s feelings really needn’t. Egos of his size take it like water off a duck’s back.

Were you affronted about the comments about Starmer's weight? Or the allegations about Rayner crossing her legs (how very dare she.) Politicians generally give as good as they get and if they can't they are probably in the wrong job.

👏
