Abhorrent comments made about a persons height

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 25/04/2024 09:30

Calling someone who is below the average height, "pint-sized" is abhorrent
at the very least. A person's height is beyond the person's control and calling them "pint-sized," some may even say it's an ableist comment

Yesterday, during the PMQ's the lead was taken by the deputy heads of both Tories and Labour. Standing in for the Labour leader was Angela Rayner. She called the Tory leader, Rishi Sunak a "pint-sized leader" when she was losing the arugument

This reminds me of clowns at work who had nicknames for other people who did not fit in with their agenda. Often people will make disparaging comments about another when they feel threatened because of their own inadequacies.
Should she apologise for making these disgusting comments?

AIBU to believe these comments were necessary, inappropriate and disgustingly abhorrent.

Angela Rayner aims ‘pint-sized loser’ jibe at Rishi Sunak during PMQs

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden countered the criticism by mocking the Labour deputy over her housing arrangements.

But strangely she isn't on a checkout. She could be, but has done rather well for herself.

Was she only supposed to do that in a specially Tory way?

Exactly. Any woman who has the grit, determination and self belief to achieve what she has is to be admired.

ClairemacL · 25/04/2024 11:53

They’re all as bad as one another. Plenty of comments about her being a rough chav have been made before now.

Not that they’re inaccurate

IClaudine · 25/04/2024 11:53

The Tories hate her because left wing working class people who reach positions of power scare them.

Verv · 25/04/2024 11:56

Well, she is going to be deputy PM soon, so cry harder as the young folk say.

Edited

The young folk say it because they're woefully immature.
That said, I'm sure you've tickled yourself with the little bit of posturing. Tres Angela.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 25/04/2024 11:57

Pint sized? of course he is but also i feel Rayner was also referring to his inability to run the country or his party.

I watched it live and that’s how I took it. I am very small so perhaps more sensitive than most about height jokes and I didn’t take it like that.

Not at all, just pointing out that her position elevates her and her behaviour, which is basic, to the point that some people find it admirable.
The fact is, that if she didn't have her position, she wouldn't get anybody fawning at her "wit" for calling somebody pint sized.

newnamethanks · 25/04/2024 11:59

I've obviously missed the threads of outrage made on Angela's behalf at the atrocious, contemptuous, misogynistic language and misleading statements she is constantly subject to by the Tory scum. How can that be?

I actually find this really worrying.

At the moment we have to have a daily thread on Rayner's latest sin, when she is in government, will it be hourly?

Doubly scary if they are a woman.
This is of course a downside of knowing what a woman is.

Rayner is one of those insufferable "I tell it like it is!" women. Not very bright, and anticipates an Oscar for every tedious insult that she manages to expel.

If she was on a checkout nobody would pay her any attention.

I imagine a check out is where you think she should be !

BIossomtoes · 25/04/2024 12:03

She’s the natural successor of the wonderful Barbara Castle who once said “Am I just God’s most arrogant bitch?”. I can totally imagine Rayner saying that.

Yes. Look at the focus and effort in her. It is a backhanded compliment. Why would they otherwise bother with someone they claim is so stupid and limited? They are frightened.

Angela Rayner does not care about picking up Tory votes. But in this impressive display she is not only talked about, the focus is off the investigation, and Labour look confident. Parliament is theatre. She is a confident player and Dowden was not. An opposition can always do this because it has no record to defend. Dowden needed a lot of successes to avoid this kind of dynamic.

SalviaDivinorum · 25/04/2024 12:05

It's Angela Rayner. What do you expect?

The bar is set so low by the current shambolic government that is running the country into the ground. Do you prefer BoJo? Did you find that fool amusing? I can't imagine AR hiding in a fridge.

Abhorrent comments about an abhorrent person.
Sounds fair game.

Why? Because I'm not oooh yeah Angela, pint-sized! this is the funniest new thing I've ever heard levelled at a short person!!! ahahahhaaaaa Angela's great, proper down to earth, what a lass, hahahah pint sized Rishi! womp womp.

Not whacking one out for Rayner clearly makes me a fucking aristocrat 😂

No I fucking hate Bojo. But actually, there are similarities between his gob and Rayners.

You do know Nadine Dorries used the term about Sunak in her book? Perhaps the irony of Ange lobbing the phrase over the despatch box is lost on you.

I take "tres Ange" as a compliment btw😄

SuperBored · 25/04/2024 12:13

Can't get worked up over it...it's rude, but whenever they show any clips from the HOC it just seems like playground posturing tbh I don't know where the real work/influencing gets done.

As a pint-sized person, I can't be arsed

Me too. I wouldn't take it as an insult tbh, I like being short. Fab when flying etc

I think Dorries is a prat as well so that swipe is irrelevant.

Dowden is predicted to hold his seat at the GE, so we can look forward to more Rayner vs Dowden exchanges in the years to come, only with them sat on different benches.
