SAHM

To think most women would prefer to be a SAHM given the choice. I don't know of anyone IRL that would choose to work if they didn't have to.

I would choose to work every time.

TeenLifeMum · 21/04/2024 20:27

I did it a bit because we couldn’t afford toddler plus twins in nursery. Definitely not for me. I’m much happier with the structure of a job and security knowing dh and I are together due to love rather than tied by financial reasons.

I would choose to work every time.

Same here, did it for a month and it was hell, worked ever since my kids are now adults.

PonyPatter44 · 21/04/2024 20:28

Oh god no. I really wouldn't have enjoyed being a SAHM. I had an interesting job at the time my DD was born, and and even more interesting one now. I would have hated to stay at home full time.

However if I'd had a really dull or stressful job, and was a more maternal personality, I'd probably have enjoyed being at home full-time. Different strokes for different folks, as it were.

Twistie · 21/04/2024 20:28

No, I disagree - and I’m a SAHM. Some enjoy being one, some want to go back to work but can’t, others can’t stand the thought of being one for a multitude of reasons. Everyone to their own and no one’s wrong.

onedayiwillbecontent · 21/04/2024 20:28

I’d be bored stiff if I didn’t work. Beyond maternity leave, I definitely wouldn’t want to be a SAHM.

Farmwifefarmlife · 21/04/2024 20:29

I’d rather work 😂 being home with two under two and a 7 year old is hard work! My working days were a breeze in comparison. I do run a business from home though so I guess I have the best of both worlds.

mynameiscalypso · 21/04/2024 20:29

God no. I can't think of anything worse than being a SAHM. Plus I really like my job.

noshadowatnoon · 21/04/2024 20:29

I think most, but definitely not all

Bettyscakes · 21/04/2024 20:29

I tried & hated it! Lasted 9 months and found a job.

VGoghsEar · 21/04/2024 20:29

Would you all still work if you won the lottery?

OP posts:
Cherrysherbet · 21/04/2024 20:29

I loved being a SAHM. They were the most precious years of my life and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Yes!

onedayiwillbecontent · 21/04/2024 20:29

But probably part time.

Orangello · 21/04/2024 20:30

I think most people would want to do something else besides taking care of small children and cleaning the house.

Allthegoodnamesaregone1 · 21/04/2024 20:30

Agree.
Lockdown was the absolute better days of my life, and maternity leave.
Even when the school went back and I was still furlough for a bit.

If money was no thought I would never ever work again

oldestmumaintheworld · 21/04/2024 20:30

God no, I'd sooner throw myself under a bus. Tried it for six months maternity leave, hated it so much I went back to work early.

bakewellbride · 21/04/2024 20:30

My friend is a very successful solicitor and while she loves her son and is a great mum, she also loves her career. She works full time 'even though I don't HAVE to, I WANT to' to use her own exact words.

PuttingDownRoots · 21/04/2024 20:31

SUrely it depends on how much you like your job? Some people find their work fullfilling. For others, it is just what needs doing.

I liked being at home with my pair. Which was fortunate, as nursery would have cost more than my wage back then.

oldestmumaintheworld · 21/04/2024 20:31

And yes I would carry on working if I won the lottery.

I think most people would want to do something else besides taking care of small children and cleaning the house.

But employed women have to do these things and work.

100% i would still work, i love my kids but i couldn't spend 24/7 with them or just being a parent. I'm my own person

Deathbyfluffy · 21/04/2024 20:32

VGoghsEar · 21/04/2024 20:29

Would you all still work if you won the lottery?

Yes, my working life is a large part of who I am.
I'd hate to have a job where I'd just quit if money wasn't an issue - I do what I do for a lot more than a paycheck.
