I know what the Tories are and no, I don't like it. But I'm a woman, I have daughters and I come from generations of women who've been abused and dismissed because of their sex. I want better for my girls but I can't do it on my own. I need a government who will (at least give lip service to) supporting me. Am I a Tory? no. But the last thing women need is to be fighting their own government for basic recognition, so Tory it is.

I'm GC. I think the polarisation of the sexes has led to some very strange behaviour and I have every sympathy for autistic girls but people can't change sex. It's written in our chromosomes what we are. Mental health support for people is desperately needed. We need to get the men out of our spaces and our sports. Can you tell trans from transvestite from AGP?

I'm disabled, the tories don't give a flying fuck about disabled people, to them we're just a burden that costs too much but I should go vote for them because I'm a woman? No thanks.

No votes in it. If it wasn't for the access it gives Tory donors to slurp the public funds for aids and adaptations, it would be an even lower priority.

All the Tories are doing is saying they know what a woman is, not actually doing something.

Protecting women in sport for their safety and fair competition is something the government can easily do. Start by no funding from the lottery or the public purse for any sport which allows someone who has gone through male puberty to compete in women only events. Perhaps don't allow anyone to go in person and pay for any sporting event that does not meet this criteria.

Actions not words. Even before you get to now having a justice system that effectively almost decriminalised certain offences against women, no real sanctions about men who harass women over childcare arrangements, and no doubt many other examples. The Tories even chose a leader who wanted the courts to allow him to deny the existence of one of his children and silence that child's mother.

Made life feel a lot crappier for a lot of people.

Imo the tories don't give a shit about women really.. they just know this issue could win them votes. Bit lok at the voting record for other women's rights issues? Horrific. They just know the 'trans' stuff wins them votes from right across the political spectrum and it costs them nothing. They don't really give a shit.

I'm disabled too. I remember the disability demos against Labour. Not saying they're worse than Tories, again two and more things can be true. They can both be crap and as I've said, the bar is pretty low to get my vote. I wish that weren't true, but it is.

Right now, the Tories have noticed I'm a woman and held the door open. Literally that's all it takes. Yep, they're going to rifle through my pockets as I go through and probably give me a pat on the arse too. THAT'S how low the bar is.

And yet, look at the number of posters eager to have a go at me - tribalism is extraordinarily effective in stopping us holding politicians to account.

The Venn diagram of the regular contributors on those thread (of whom I am one) and those who have voiced their disagreement with the OP is nowhere near a perfect circle. There's some overlap, but there are a lot more disagreeing voices than just the small subset of MN posters on the Sunak threads.

I'd love to do that. I have the background for it too. What stops me is that offline I'm pretty sensitive. Kudos to JK Rowling and others but I couldn't deal with the rape threats and so on that are endemic in public life atm
