Every two or three weeks in summer, monthly in winter. There is just me, and I use two sheets each time so the duvet cover is washed infrequently.

I do them about every 3 to 4 weeks. I'm a bit surprised that I'm clearly a grotter compared to most here 😆

No, you're really not. Some MNers seem to think we are living in the 50s and housewives are being judged, and they take such pride in boasting of their extreme cleaning. The rest of us have enough clues to realise that it really doesn't matter if the sheets aren't washed weekly, the towels daily, and clothing after it has been worn once.

Once every 3 weeks or so (sooner if I have a bad cold). Once a week seems mental to me! I never sleep naked though.

Same here. I'd imagine sheets would need changing more often I slept nude. Feels really uncomfortable to me.

SwordToFlamethrower · 15/04/2024 00:52

Every Friday for top sheet, bottom sheet and pullow cases. I got fed up of having to wash the whole duvet cover every week so invested in a top sheet to make the duvet cover last longer.

Game changer!

I've only recently discovered that people in the UK only use a bottom sheet, and for the life of me can't understand why. It is so much easier to change two sheets.

itsalwaysthesame · 15/04/2024 00:58

Every 2 weeks but pillowcases weekly

Resisterance · 15/04/2024 01:30

Every Sunday morning without fail. Feels mucky otherwise

MissingMoominMamma · 15/04/2024 01:41

Once a week. My (non-shedding) small dog sleeps with me.

crockofshite · 15/04/2024 01:43

When I start to stick to the sheets.

INeedToClingToSomething · 15/04/2024 04:40

I aim for once a fortnight but it's often longer.

Every Monday.

And FWIW I also wash towels after every use OP.

Generally I think people need to do what they need to do with washing - it’s such a personal thing.

But washing towels every time you use them really is inexcusable - just hang them up to dry for heavens sake. You are clean when you use them.

Doesn't it SMELL?

Some people just don’t smell.

If you do, then that’s you.

Bedding- around once a month…I come to bed clean after a quick shower! Towels, keep the same two all week and hang them to dry then wash weekly. Clothes…I used to change them each day but I now consider the environment and get a strange thrill out of wearing them as many times as I can before washing…this depends on whether I’m working from home or out, or I consider if I’ve been on public transport etc. Each to their own I guess but perhaps this thread could invite people to consider if they really do need to wash their clothes/towels/bedding quite as often - less detergent, less water usage, electric etc

Janetime · 15/04/2024 09:19

I don’t get folks pointing out they shower before bed, so? You sweat in your sleep, shed skin. It also attracts dust mites and bacteria, you don’t launder your bedding as you don’t shower before bed,

I mostly change them every day, but I'll hang them to air rather than washing them before wearing them again (unless they are actually dirty, like yesterday's trousers have mud on them.)

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/04/2024 09:27

Once a week,twice in summer

Well the reason I said it was for context in terms of cleanliness, not to suggest that people only launder their bedding as they don’t shower before bed. I may sweat in my sleep (although not noticeably), and so wash my pjs regularly, but I’m willing to risk any shed skin that might remain after my shower and towel dry.

hottchocolatte · 15/04/2024 09:30

I am curious about using a top sheet. It would be easier to wash!

what are the downsides?

It can get tangled, especially if you're the sort of person who cocoons themselves in their duvet. Otherwise, it's the same as hotels, or using sheet + eiderdown/blankets used to be, before duvets became common.

And yet you commented on it.

I started this thread to ask a question because a group of women on her belittled and judged me, hence the question hope that helps.

Trust me, after 3 months, it smells, regardless of who you are

gonegrl · 15/04/2024 10:27

I use my bedding two nights before it gets washed. I get really bad night sweats though, so it gets a bit smelly quickly. If I left it two weeks or even a week the whole bedroom would reek...
