Am I the only person who doesn't have a routine for this kind of thing? I haven't got a clue what day I last changed the bedsheets, just that I do it when I think they need it 🤷‍♀️

TheSpoonyNavyReader · 14/04/2024 09:34

Alwaysalwayscold · 14/04/2024 09:02

They've clearly never met a gypsy then 😂

I also change hand towels at the end of every day OP. I think using a towel for a week and leaving it there damp in the bathroom is disgusting so let them lynch me.

I am with you, we can be lynched together.

OP you've now started a number of threads breaking down each of your cleaning behaviours to try and garner support you didn't get in your original thread, the cumulative effect of your habits and product consumption was what drew comments in the original thread, you're not giving people the whole picture in each of the individual threads, 12 toilet rolls a week, the volume of shower gel and shampoo etc, which is what people were commenting on and what your own husband thinks is excessive in addition to the utilities cost, glad to hear you're cutting down the washing and no one has died of dysentry yet.

Sounds like OP has little else going on in her life than washing barely used things and starting countless threads on MN about barely used things.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 14/04/2024 09:00

So why start the thread?

I care about the environment. I can not control what China or the USA emits but I can alter my own emissions and I choose to do so. If you look at the UK’s emission per person we are quite high up there.

Why do you think a tradesman drying his hand on a towel makes it gross? What do you think is happening on the towel? Your extreme reaction is odd!

I do laundry at the weekend, usually a dark load, a light load and sometimes a red one. Sheets every other week or so, don’t pay particular attention to it. Towels between a week and 2. That is a family of 3 adults. I also use the longer eco setting (which seems to upset a lot of people on here) as it uses both less electricity and less water!

If you look at the population per head we are about 24th in the world and a lot lower than the Netherlands.

@Iusedtobeapenguin

i don't have a 'routine', I go by the weather, I can get them out on the line pretty much year around and it's a bit of a wind tunnel. Even if not bone dry it gets most of the water out and I finish them on the airer.

I just pick the best drying looking day & do them between 4 & 8 days. It just happens, no rota.

so once a week in winter & twice a week in summer (Sometimes more if really hot. Duvet usually sits folded on the chair all summer, so it's just sheets & pillow cases. the mattress protector maybe once a month in summer every spontaneously on a good drying day in winter!

IrritatedB3dM4ker · 14/04/2024 09:40

Alwaysalwayscold · 14/04/2024 08:10

Every Monday.

And FWIW I also wash towels after every use OP.

That's very wasteful - why is it necessary?

Mischance · 14/04/2024 09:40

Once a month. I am widowed, so no nights of wild passion. I wear pyjamas which soak up any sweat. I am trying to avoid using the washing machine as much as possible to save the planet.

Those who wash sheets frequently because of germs are carrying those germs around with them all the time anyway - they are meant to be there.

And look, you're here too so I'm guess you have little going on in your life?

your post was horrid & unnecessary.

Happycow · 14/04/2024 09:48

Id like to say fortnightly, but honestly if its monthly im happy. I always wear t-shirt at night, and am single. I change pillow cases weekly. And do change the bedding more often in summer.

I have lots going on with life, hobbies, going out with friends, washing takes less than 5 minutes to put on but that fact that you respond in a sneering way on a thread you don't like says that you need more of a life.

Move on if you if you don't like it.

Countless threads, 3 not countless......

Hand towels in the downstairs loo or guest bathroom that have guests/visitors/trade people using them are washed everyday without fail.

It's unbelievable. What in God's name do you think will happen if you don't wash them every 2 minutes?

It's a total environmental fail yes. You clearly don't give a hoot.

No one is saying leave it damp and stinky for a week though, you are being deliberately obtuse

TipsyKoala · 14/04/2024 09:57

Once a month or when I remember. Actually I’ve changed them today because your post reminded me 😁 . Actually I’ve read your other posts OP and although we’re poles apart on our approach to these things, I say each to their own. You received a pile on for your previous post and you took it in a really good natured way, I don’t think you deserved so much shit. Just do you.

Not the only one, I'm surprised on these type of threads how regimented posters lives are, they know exactly how many loads they do each week, how often they carry out specific cleaning tasks how many bottles of cleaning spray they buy per month etc.

Its a very different world to mine where everything happens when necessary not to a timetable

Thank you for your post, I am not saying that what I do is right and as you say each to their own.

I was astonished with some of those comments and think most posters were just egging each other on, I started the other threads just to see if I was completely in the wrong with showering everyday and washing bedding once a week., it would seem that I am not and a very small amount of posters were on my other thread.

OP posts:
Mactoba · 14/04/2024 10:03

Every other week. Alternating so I do half the beds one week and half the next.

Towels are also washed every other week - our towels one week, the dc’s the next but hand towels are changed once or twice a week depending on use and tea towel and kitchen cloth changed daily.

It makes my life easier to know that all bedding is changed on a Monday morning, and that I have all week to get them washed and ironed, just like when the kids were little all their uniform was washed on a Friday night.

@Alwaysalwayscold

why are your towels damp?

I hang mine on the towel rail & they're dry by my next shower (if daily) when showering again the same day, if it's not yet dry I'll get a fresh towel & alternate Until they all go in the wash.

no need to put the damp one in the washing

do you air your bathroom?

Mine aren't but yours are.

You've said they're dry by your next shower, so yes you are leaving damp towels lying around.

Yes I air my bathroom and clean it daily with... Bleach. Shock horror on here I know.

Emeraldsrock · 14/04/2024 10:05

Bottom sheets every two weeks. Duvets every 3-4 weeks. Have coverless fevers on every bed that go straight in the washing machine.

IHateLegDay · 14/04/2024 10:06

When I remember 😅

spacehoppercommuter · 14/04/2024 10:06

haha! You're on a roll this morning 😃

Weekly. In the winter if I cant dry outside, I just change the pillowcases so then it's usually every two weeks. But we shower a lot in our house 😏

Calamitousness · 14/04/2024 10:07

I’ve just bought us a super king coverless duvet. It goes in the washing once a week and dries in an hour in tumble drier. No hassle making up beds. It’s just a sheet to put on. I’m in process of changing all beds in house over to them.

Scottishgirl85 · 14/04/2024 10:09

Aim for fortnightly, but monthly in reality! There really is more to life...

I am on a roll because a bunch of posters (vipers) actually made me question why I showered every day according to them I should only shower once a week in rain water and air dry!!
