To think it's childish when grown women ask other women what they're wearing somewhere?

Especially when it's days in advance it just seems...trivial.

AIBU to find it annoying?

Yes. Sometimes it’s quite nice to ask your friends what they’re wearing to a wedding you’re both going to or something

not a reason to get your (well chosen and friend coordinated) panties in a twist

Nevermind31 · 04/04/2024 20:25

Isn’t it just a useful gauge to know how dressy/ casual/ warm to dress?

LeanIntoChaos · 04/04/2024 20:25

But....what if you turn up in an evening gown and everyone else is in jeans?

Snoopsnoggysnog · 04/04/2024 20:26

YABU and a bit churlish. Surely it’s part of the friendship and build up to the event

LadyOfACertainAge · 04/04/2024 20:27

YABU. If it means I’m not left feeling frumpy or standing out then i’ll ask to check I’ve got the vibe right.

prescribingmum · 04/04/2024 20:27

You are getting worked up over something that is insignificant. Tell them you haven’t decided yet if that is the case, really not much effort

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/04/2024 20:27

YABU - not many people want to stand out, most of us want to blend in. I need to know if someone is going dressy or casual etc, if not obvious.

Youdontevengohere · 04/04/2024 20:28

Lots of things are ‘trivial’. Life doesn’t have to be serious and worthy all the time.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 04/04/2024 20:28

YABU - otherwise how do you know 'fancy dress' means a nice frock and you don't turn up to your ex-husbands wedding reception dressed up as Margaret Thatcher and everyone laughed at me.

TheNeverEndingOver · 04/04/2024 20:28

You are better than everyone!

hazeydays14 · 04/04/2024 20:28

My Friends and I are guilty of doing this any time we’re going for a night out and I don’t think any of us are childish to be honest! We just like to gauge how dressy we’re going.. also my best friend and I have very similar style and have inadvertently bought the exact same clothes on many occasions 😂 it’s honestly harmless really isn’t it
I wouldn’t do it for a walk with the dogs or Sunday lunch but will for a night out/day drinking event

ChestaDroors · 04/04/2024 20:28

What you really mean is… you think you’re better than people who do this.

You’re not.

AssassinsEyebrow · 04/04/2024 20:29

God forbid someone feel a little insecure or need a bit of reassurance

DancingDangerously · 04/04/2024 20:30

I think this is far too...trivial a topic to start a whole thread about. Don't you have better things to think about?

Saschka · 04/04/2024 20:31

Sometimes it’s just nice to chat about clothes. Nobody is saying on Tuesdays we all wear pink, or anything like that.

SnowyPetals · 04/04/2024 20:32

Nope, I don't think it's childish at all. Friends like to chat about things, dontcha know.

Foxblue · 04/04/2024 20:32

Some people enjoy clothes and fashion, and enjoy talking about them, if you don't find it fun that's fine, but not everything needs to be serious or important to be discussed! That's the joy of life surely - its like discussing what you are going to order at a restaurant (although tbh for me that is VERY serious business)

SunshineAndFizz · 04/04/2024 20:33

This is literally an issue for no one. How can someone be offended when a friend asks them this.

WhateverMate · 04/04/2024 20:35

YABU, it's no more childish than a friend telling you they're going to the theatre next week, and you asking them what they're seeing 🤷‍♀️

Kitkat1523 · 04/04/2024 20:36

I always ask before a girls night out…..and I’m 59 😂😂

ImAlwaysknackered · 04/04/2024 20:36

YABU. How is it childish exactly? Please explain?

opentoadvice88 · 04/04/2024 20:36

YABU. I love those exchanges of messages & getting advice.

I’m sure OP is one of those proudly friendless MNers who feels like “their little family” is the only company they need!

Well if it's so trivial, don't ask then? 🤷. It's hardly a big deal.

Purplecatshopaholic · 04/04/2024 20:38

My friends and I do it - love a chat about clothes before getting together for a night out. Childish? Meh, don’t like it don’t do it op.
