If your DH is a white collar worker, do you ever fantasise about blue collar workers?

My first DH was a white collar worker. High up in finance. Never had a fight in his life. Short and skinny. Unable to really be a guys guy or have any banter with other men. If we had ever been stuck in a dangerous situation, we would have no doubt died 😂 I never felt physically safe with him. When I was with him, I definitely found myself fancying more manly men, like builders, mechanics, police officers, boxers etc, you get the drift, and I was wondering whether I’m unusual in that?

No. I don't like muscular men. I like spectacled geeks.😀

Yeah me too. But we wouldn't die in a dangerous situation because I'm pretty tough 😁

FourEyesGood · 22/03/2024 19:19

I feel much safer around nerds than I do around sporty types.

Sapphire387 · 22/03/2024 19:20

DH is white collar but also 6'4 with tattoos and a beard so... no. I do like watching him do DIY though.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/03/2024 19:20

Not for a moment. Dh is very much white collar. He's pretty fit and strong for his age though, and always has been. If you are talking about the stereotypical salt-of-the-earth, macho 'I protect my woman' type, then definitely no. Urgh. Definitely a turn-off rather than a turn-on.

TooMinty · 22/03/2024 19:21

Hah, I'm the opposite way round. I'm into skinny indie musicians but married to someone rugby player shaped...

fourelementary · 22/03/2024 19:21

My husband is a white collar worker. And no I don’t fancy blue collar types but I do like it when hubby works with his sleeves rolled up… 🤣

TextureSeeker · 22/03/2024 19:21

Nah, I'm into geeks. I can't relate to 'I never felt physically safe with him' though, in what situations are you talking about? I can't really think of instances Ive been in where I feel 'unsafe' and would need a man to feel 'safe'.

LovelyTheresa · 22/03/2024 19:21

'My first wife was a flat chested, bookish brunette. I was bored by her looks and her interests, and always found myself fancying Marilyn Monroe lookalikes. AIBU?'
Can you imagine the uproar if a man posted the above on here? You sound no better.

Okonimiyaki · 22/03/2024 19:21

I travel solo all over the world, despite being married. Not really interested in a man protecting me.

mynameiscalypso · 22/03/2024 19:21

I don't think it's a blue collar/white collar thing. But I wouldn't want to be married to someone who I thought would be great in a fight because I'd worry about my own safety.

Overtheatlantic · 22/03/2024 19:23

This thread is really gross.

HungryBeagle · 22/03/2024 19:24

My husband is a white collar worker (banker) he’s also a rugby player and weight lifter! My ex was a joiner, he was 5ft 7 and 9 stone.

HungryBeagle · 22/03/2024 19:25

I’ve never been in a situation where either of them needed to protect me though.

DumpsterBaby · 22/03/2024 19:25

There is research that women go for more masculine men at certain points in their cycle.

My OH is a tradesman, and comes home filthy. He is bearded, masculine, and is frequently told he looks like he’d murder someone in their sleep.

He’s also into literature and philosophy, and he’s one of the smartest people I know.

He definitely gives me the fannygallops.

Reallybadidea · 22/03/2024 19:26

My DH generally wears a t shirt so no collar

theleafandnotthetree · 22/03/2024 19:27

I like to be with someone who can handle themselves and who is physically strong and capable and not afraid to get their hands dirty. It is more likely that they might be 'blue collar' I guess but it's not a hard and fast rule. A few of my friends have very metrosexual, wine swilling, scrawny husbands and while I like them and enjoy their company I could never fancy them. For want of a better phrase, I like a manly man. And I am a very independent and capable woman, live by myself, travel all the time by myself. I don't NEED such a man but by God I fancy them!

igetwhatyoumean · 22/03/2024 19:27

My husband is a white collar worker, who's worked his way up, so I probably get the best of both worlds.

The difference is that men are not regularly objectified by women or society. I think they can take a good-humoured post of Mumsnet without too much damage.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/03/2024 19:28

I would like it if he could do practical stuff (not that what he does isn't practical - nhs).

why does someone try to shut down every other thread with a 'ooooh imagine if a man wrote this'.

beyond dull.

Octonaut4Life · 22/03/2024 19:29

My husband's a white collar worker. In touch with his feminine side, funny, smart, nerdy. Also does martial arts, could absolutely protect us in a dangerous situation, can keep up with manly banter etc. I'm sure there are plenty of skinny nerdy blue collar workers too!

TakeAByte · 22/03/2024 19:29

My (female) DP is butch as they come, tall, broad, often mistaken for a man. I do like to watch her doing DIY or manual 'lugging stuff about' sort of work. I've dated corporate women who were also masculine-presenting, short hair typical male clothing, but slimmer and more 'groomed' or smart. They just don't do it for me. I'm maybe a gay version of you OP Grin

He sounds very hot in fairness 😛
