If your DH is a white collar worker, do you ever fantasise about blue collar workers?

My first DH was a white collar worker. High up in finance. Never had a fight in his life. Short and skinny. Unable to really be a guys guy or have any banter with other men. If we had ever been stuck in a dangerous situation, we would have no doubt died 😂 I never felt physically safe with him. When I was with him, I definitely found myself fancying more manly men, like builders, mechanics, police officers, boxers etc, you get the drift, and I was wondering whether I’m unusual in that?

My DP is in the trades, 6'4", built like a rugby player and can fix anything. Before him I was always drawn to skinny, arty, intellectuals (although DP is funny and clever too). I find his ability to just take care of things I have no understanding of like motors and problem solve and lift heavy things unbelievably sexy. I also feel safe with him in a way I never had before, although really there is little reason to fear anything where we live. I felt quite guilty as a feminist for being attracted by these things but now I've come to accept it and just enjoy! I also find he has an easy confidence especially when dealing with other men that comes of working in an almost all male traditional environment. I am in a white collar profession but I'm very happy with someone who is not. I wouldn't go back to the Brian Cox/Jarvis Cocker types no matter what, although they also have their charms!

I love a man in a tie and cuff links! 😍 No thank you on the blue collar fantasy.

Yep me too

I really dislike the ' blokey banter' thing and as for fighting..

A shirt and tie with rolled up sleeves...and a nice watch.

My dh is like this and six foot and very capable which is lovely.

The stereotypes on this thread are doing my head in.

StopStartStop · 23/03/2024 08:34

White collar, blue collar? No. I only like musicians. I do love a good suit, though.

Very well articulated. Before my OH I didn’t want children. There is something about his masculinity that really brings out the female in me. 😂

I always sneak a sideways look at men in really filthy, oily overalls; like steam train drivers on heritage railways, or traction engine drivers at country fairs. The smell of hot oil and a bit of smoke. Phwoaar.

That’s one of the most cheering posts I’ve read on here in a while!

I’m picturing the scene now…. The sun is shining on a summer’s day. Tea and scones are being served in Ye Olde Heritage Station Cafe. The steam train puffs up, with noise, steam and creaks galore. Small boys are admiring the life-size Thomas and train buffs are talking gauges and pressures. Meanwhile @peakygold is peering into the cab thinking, ‘Oh yes, I would!’ 😁

ZetuianRose · 23/03/2024 08:46

My tradie was wearing formal attire yesterday, shirt and tie etc. There’s something about my rugged, tattooed ball of masculinity in a shirt (rare!) that is way sexier than the actual white collar guys (even the “big” ones) as they’re usually all polished and “pretty” rather than sexy. I don’t find that attractive.

Dibilnik · 23/03/2024 08:49

DH#1 was very white collar and yes, I did have a massive crush on a couple of blue-collar males. But although this manifested as sex fantasies, in retrospect it was more of a kindness fantasy. DH#1 was cruel and manipulative, and they were sweet and fun.

mylifeisprettygood · 23/03/2024 09:14

I thought I liked the geeky types and married one but what a total mistake that was. Went on to marry my current DH who is the total opposite. A tradie who is the hottest man I know. Would kill for his family if I needed him too and would do anything for us. He comes home filthy from work and it's unbelievably sexy and the first thing he does is come straight over to me to kiss me. He's a beautiful man inside and out. Very good with his hands 😊

DP is my 5th drummer 😂

Causei · 23/03/2024 09:18

I do get distracted occasionally when watching those American police body cam videos. Interestingly UK police officers do nothing for me.

Changeusernameseeusernamehistory · 23/03/2024 09:19

TrixieFatell · 22/03/2024 20:10

Mr Fatell is a tradesman, beard, tattoos and very good with his hands. It's his forearms that get me every time though, I'm a fan of a good set of forearms

Oh not just me with a forearm thing then!!

I married one of those... 😂
Not one of your exes! A drummer!

Enko · 23/03/2024 12:51

Blue collar workers never did anything for me. Give me a man in a crisp suit anyway. Add cufflinks and...Yum..

BobbyBiscuits · 23/03/2024 12:54

I find firemen ridiculously sexy but wouldn't want a relationship with one. Apparently it's one of most likely professions to cheat, I guess cos they can and women often like that macho save me kind of thing.
I dated a boxer and he was so socially and emotionally inept, despite being a narcissist he could barely dress himself or tie his fucking shoelaces. Utter moron he was. Ive met other boxers and they all seem intellectually and emotionally immature.
Police officers scare the shit out of me so I'd rather date a criminal than a cop, lol.
Builders definitely as you'd imagine they'd be physically fit and also very practical. But I fear they might lack the artistic side I find so attractive.
I wouldn't date a banker either as we just wouldn't share anything in common I don't think.
So yeah I'm stuck with broke musicians and artists. Haha. Very happily mind.

Missamyp · 23/03/2024 12:59

Ex white collar-thinks he's THE epitome of a masculinity.
Dp Blue-white collar mix- now he is the epitome of masculinity.
For me at least.
Tbf both are walking talking magnets for female attention.

ConstantastheNorthernStar · 23/03/2024 13:02

No, I like my PhD-holding, cardigan-wearing DH whose aggression is largely directed at disappointing Radio 4 interviewers.

DivergentTris · 23/03/2024 13:21

My husband is a tradesman and has been well into rugby in his day too, however, it would probably be me who saved the day if something happened. My job has opened my eyes to many situations most would not encounter I have been in the thick of it and seldom bat an eyelid despite being 5ft3 and 7st 7 wet through.
Some people have it and some don't, white collar, blue collar, male, female, big and burley or my stamp, It is either in you or it isn't. I have encountered the big burly tip in my role and honestly, the type the OP is referring to aren't always the ones you can rely on, I have seen some who shit themselves and are a liability in a dangerous situation.

ScubaDivingSpiderMonkey · 23/03/2024 13:22

I wouldn't be attracted to a fireman beyond a fling. I can well believe their egos are puffed up from all the attention.

Cops definitely don't do it for me.

I think blue collar fantasies are quite dangerous- for example tradesman porn gives young people an unrealistic idea about how easy it is to get a plumber to come to your house.

Jennyjojo5 · 23/03/2024 15:09

Oh nooooo. Give me a well groomed finance bro any day! I don’t get the tradie thing at all! But it’s all about personal preferences, I’ve just always fancied the well spoken, immaculately dressed white collar look

peebles32 · 23/03/2024 15:11

I married an accountant first time round. Short and skinny and ran from any problem. Now married to a blue collar worker who is big, chunky and holds his own. Defo prefer this one.
