If your DH is a white collar worker, do you ever fantasise about blue collar workers?

My first DH was a white collar worker. High up in finance. Never had a fight in his life. Short and skinny. Unable to really be a guys guy or have any banter with other men. If we had ever been stuck in a dangerous situation, we would have no doubt died 😂 I never felt physically safe with him. When I was with him, I definitely found myself fancying more manly men, like builders, mechanics, police officers, boxers etc, you get the drift, and I was wondering whether I’m unusual in that?

There is research that women go for more masculine men at certain points in their cycle.

My OH is a tradesman, and comes home filthy. He is bearded, masculine, and is frequently told he looks like he’d murder someone in their sleep.

He’s also into literature and philosophy, and he’s one of the smartest people I know.

He definitely gives me the fannygallops.

haha!! same with my DH

BlondiesHaveMoreFun · 22/03/2024 19:30

Maybe white/blue collar is a red herring then. 🧐 I really didn’t like being with a guy who couldn’t stand his ground if we were in danger and yes, it did happen a few times. Current DH is totally opposite which has been an eye opener.

adds “fannygallops” to own vocabulary

LOL exDP was really nerdy but also very big and strong, good with DIY etc. But would never survive in a fight or anything like that 😂

BlondiesHaveMoreFun · 22/03/2024 19:32

I hadn’t thought about it for a while, but yesterday, I had to go and get my car from the garage and it was full of men covered in grease and dirt, and I thought ooft, I find these men far more attractive than my ex who probably earned 10x more.

He sounds very hot in fairness 😛

I’m totally telling him this later. He will roll his eyes but I think he will be secretly pleased. lol

Tell your husband I fancy him.

Kind regards

The difference is that men are not regularly objectified by women or society. I think they can take a good-humoured post of Mumsnet without too much damage.

So? It's still a double standard. And if you think that men aren't objectified by women, I don't know what to tell you!

Your poor ex. I hope he found a lovely wife who doesn't sneer at his looks. Or did he trade you in for a younger woman, so all of this is just bitterness?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 22/03/2024 19:35

My type is definitely hot geek.

I work in construction. I'm surrounded by "manly men". They really aren't for me.

Sosickfromholidywahh · 22/03/2024 19:37

I love nothing more, than seeing DH pull up in his van, in a dirty high vis, with mucky hands, I just love it!! A suit doesn’t do it for me, but trousers with all the pockets… yes! 😂

PreeningPopinjay · 22/03/2024 19:39

I fancy a variety of men but veer more towards the Jason Momoa end of the scale than the Jarvis Cocker. I know Jarvis has a legion of lusty fans but the skinny geek thing isn't my bag.

Actually, he cheated on me for 20 years. Tried to shag my Mum, my sister, all of my friends and actually did shag my best friend in the world, so I lost her too. He also beat me up twice when I said I was leaving him. Then screwed me on child support by lying to CMS. But hey, why don’t you automatically assume he was a good guy? And this post wasn’t about any of that anyway, but on MN there is always one!!

That's one hell of a dripfeed!!

DillDanding · 22/03/2024 19:44

No. I work with many trade/construction workers and let me tell you, I wouldn’t want to be married to a single one of them.

Disclaimer - I am sure marriage material blue collar workers exist somewhere.

Fizzadora · 22/03/2024 19:44

Not really but I did find myself thinking rather too much about that scaffolder earning well over a million a year on a thread last night.
You can tell where my priorities are these days.

peakygold · 22/03/2024 19:47

I always sneak a sideways look at men in really filthy, oily overalls; like steam train drivers on heritage railways, or traction engine drivers at country fairs. The smell of hot oil and a bit of smoke. Phwoaar.

It wasn’t in the original post because it’s not relevant! Please think before you shoot people down and derail a light hearted thread.

Nope I like geeks. My husband has never had a fight in his life, but he is very sporty and does fit in with ‘the lads’ if I’m being stereotypical. He’s also kind and clever and holds his own in discussions about economics or philosophy or literature. He’s exactly my type!

Oh really? Because I think it's highly relevant. Obviously, your ex was unattractive because he was a shit person. You started a thread ragging on a particular kind of man's appearance, and I called you on your bullshit. You then added all the details about what an awful person he was.

Deargodletitgo · 22/03/2024 19:54

igetwhatyoumean · 22/03/2024 19:27

My husband is a white collar worker, who's worked his way up, so I probably get the best of both worlds.

Mines the same, although I would discount the idea that education means weak.

cantstandthatad · 22/03/2024 19:55

I don't think it's a blue collar/white collar thing but more about a man's presence and how he carries himself.

I too don't 'need' a man and am very able to defend myself but I defo get the 'gallops' from a bloke who steps into 'protector mode'.
