If your DH is a white collar worker, do you ever fantasise about blue collar workers?

My first DH was a white collar worker. High up in finance. Never had a fight in his life. Short and skinny. Unable to really be a guys guy or have any banter with other men. If we had ever been stuck in a dangerous situation, we would have no doubt died 😂 I never felt physically safe with him. When I was with him, I definitely found myself fancying more manly men, like builders, mechanics, police officers, boxers etc, you get the drift, and I was wondering whether I’m unusual in that?

Is that you, Mrs Chatterley?

So? It's still a double standard. And if you think that men aren't objectified by women, I don't know what to tell you!

I didn’t say they weren’t objectified by women, I said they weren’t regularly objectified by women and society. I’ll assume you’re a bright woman who can understand the difference.

Can women not have a chat about attributes they find physically attractive? There are, after all, a large range of attributes mentioned on this thread and acknowledged its personal preference.

I have sort of got a bit of both. DP is very definitely white collar, but he is a big unit & looks like he can look after himself. He played both rugby & cricket to a decent level in his younger days, and has the look of a retired rugby player about him. He still sometimes turns out got the village cricket team in summer. It’s for the teas more than the game, though, because his knees are a bit knackered these days.

Sdpbody · 22/03/2024 20:04

My DH is blue collar and delicious. Tall and muscly and strong. However, he is a very gentle soul so highly unlikely to get in to a fight.

I just thought that the premise of the thread was mean and also a bit nonsensical. The stuff about feeling the need to be protected was a bit daft, and I wasn't the only person to think so.

byteme1011 · 22/03/2024 20:06

Agree that I wouldn't want to married to the tradesmen I know!

But 100% I've only ever been seriously involved with men who can handle themselves, I'm very independent but I just don't find the metrosexual types attractive, love confidence, big chest/shoulders (sounds like a gym bro but defo need banter)

LovelyTheresa · 22/03/2024 19:54

Oh really? Because I think it's highly relevant. Obviously, your ex was unattractive because he was a shit person. You started a thread ragging on a particular kind of man's appearance, and I called you on your bullshit. You then added all the details about what an awful person he was.

Christ - you certainly don’t live up to your username 🤣

TrixieFatell · 22/03/2024 20:10

Mr Fatell is a tradesman, beard, tattoos and very good with his hands. It's his forearms that get me every time though, I'm a fan of a good set of forearms

PreeningPopinjay · 22/03/2024 19:34

Tell your husband I fancy him.

Kind regards

We all fancy @DumpsterBaby ’s husband now.

My ex.h was white collar but utterly useless at DIY, driving, directions etc

My current partner is white collar too. Not a big guy but can build utterly anything, drives well (I get the fanny gallops watching him reverse particularly if his sleeves are up) and could defo save us in a survival scenario. It’s sad but true. We like this stuff. Or some of us do.

SabreIsMyFave · 22/03/2024 20:11

No, never thought this. Happy with my DH. (I.T. geek!) No fantasies here about any plumbers, brickies or carpenters!

However......... sailors and firemen! 😁

BlondiesHaveMoreFun · 22/03/2024 20:11

My DH now is very masculine and I love it. He’s been in hundreds of fights purely through his job, he would never cause a fight iyswim, but it’s nice to know that if we were somewhere dodgy he could bring the muscle. It’s not just that though, it’s the way that he interacts with other men in such a confident way that my ex couldn’t, it’s hard to explain. Been with DH for almost as long as Ex, so I’m not being giddy cos it’s a new relationship or anything. I just still love it after all these years.

Oh yes! I agree! DH has the loveliest manly hands I’ve ever seen. Good god. And the BROADEST shoulders I have seen in my life. <swoon>

Yes! Although after witnessing DH being assaulted a few months ago, I wouldn’t want a fighter but there is something so sexy about a man in work clothes!

I don't. I like slender, bookish men like Tom Hiddlestone. I don't feel the need to start a thread about it, though!

Me too, a good set of forearms are hard to beat. I once dated a fisherman and his were just heavenly. And from hard work not the gym....total fannygallops

BlondiesHaveMoreFun · 22/03/2024 20:18

Just go away then LovelyTheresa. Bloody hell, why are some people such joy suckers? Urgh.

My DH (in my opinion of course!) is the best of both worlds. White collar, high up in finance, not a lad, not a typical shitty bloke, shy and reticent. But tall and broad, protective kind. Never been in a fight but he could if the situation called. I’ve been with all kinds though – shorter, skinny, chubby, bespectacled, hairy, tattooed. I’ve found them all attractive in their own ways.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 22/03/2024 20:19

I hate to brag ladies but my OH is an engineer- technically white colour but sometimes does blue collar work. Is that best of both because I think so! 😂

That said, he appears to hate suits and a lot of the white colour parts of the jobs- presentation and planning meeting. He's more of "let's get shit done rather than discuss it for hours" type of guy.

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 22/03/2024 20:23

What a weird way of thinking about men.

It's so classist.

If a man was talking this way about women I'd be livid.

It's also factually untrue. You are at more risk of being killed by your partner of any class/job/build not by some stranger approaching a couple.

Hatty65 · 22/03/2024 20:24

I've been married twice - both times to men who were physically tough and worked hard in very physical jobs. I'm used to men who come home covered in dirt, grease and bruises. DH is also kind hearted and soft inside, but has always done a 'manly and heroic' job that involves a fair amount of danger. He is very able to defend himself and others.

Occasionally I fantasise about being married to an accountant who wears a suit and tie to work. And isn't filthy when he gets home. 😂

Baaaaaa · 22/03/2024 20:26

No, but it would be lovely to have someone who had some DIY skills.

'My first wife was a flat chested, bookish brunette. I was bored by her looks and her interests, and always found myself fancying Marilyn Monroe lookalikes. AIBU?'
Can you imagine the uproar if a man posted the above on here? You sound no better.

Oh for goodness sake, it's just an anonymous question. No harm intended or done. Get a life.

EmilyPlay · 22/03/2024 20:28

So you think all blue collar workers are up for a fight? Bit of rough?
