To be irritated about DP and the tunnel?

DP (we don’t live together) has just moved into a new house. It’s in a right state, needs ridiculous amounts of work doing to it including a whole new heating system (currently just has coal fires in each room!) new bathrooms (of which there are 3) and roofing repairs etc etc - he kind of inherited it but not completely, he has had to pay for it but at a daft price. It’s a listed building with land, pretty isolated.

Anyway! He’s been in there a few weeks and found a tunnel in the basement that was bricked up but the bricks had began to fall apart which is how the tunnel came to light. I found this fascinating and asked where it led and he said he didn’t know. I asked “did you not go in it??” And he said “no, it won’t be anything excited”. Why would you not go in it?? I’m desperate to know where it leads!! I’ve asked him a few times to have a look and he said he has more important things to be doing - I can’t get my head around it!!

im staying there at weekend and I said I’m going to explore the tunnel - he rolled his eyes and said “ffs can you stop fascinating over that stupid tunnel?”

it’s making me quite annoyed

the remote control car with the Go-Pro is EXACTLY what I would actually do OP. Do it!

Sounds like the Biff ,Chip and Kipper books where they found a hidden door in their new house and went through it and had lots of adventures.

Oops, meant to say sounds just like what happened in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. If your ex finds Mr Tumnus, he’s mine.

My husband found an old safe in a building he bought years ago, it's still in his garage and he hasn't even bothered trying to get it open, he is so bloody infuriating I could divorce him over it, actually until this thread I had forgotten about that bloody safe, my advice is don't marry him until that tunnel has been investigated properly.

Allfur · 20/03/2024 14:22

And please update when goprocar gets in there

Without wishing to derail the thread...
Leave the old safe well alone @Wokeuptired . A friend of mine bought an old safe, and tried to cut it open with an oxyacetylene cutter. But very sadly, he was killed in the resulting explosion.
So I'd advise great caution.

I have this vision of about 5 cavers turning up tooled up with ropes, hard hats and headlamps, only to find the tunnel ends after about 3 feet.

Don't worry, they're used to it. For every great discovery, like the latest in the 50mile plus Three Counties system, there are dozens of "leads" which "don't go"

Ah very close but not the same house - this one is closer to hull than York

Uodate: I’m going today to errr … “help” with the renovation … I shall be looking at the tunnel and I might send a remote control car down it with a GoPro celotaped to the top of it 😂

Can't wait to see the footage!

areyoutheregod · 20/03/2024 19:51

Oh I would also have to find out! But yes send a remote control car down there first, and make sure its safe before you go in.

RockHardCake · 20/03/2024 20:08

Well not the best start in my cave exploring career - car got stuck on something meaning I’ve lost both car and GoPro. He wouldn’t let me go in and get it. Not all that bothered about the car but I need the GoPro back!
genuinly who would we contact to survey the tunnel and determine how safe it is?

I'd still go in and get it. The tunnel has been there for ages, bricked up and unbricked. What are the chances it collapses in the few minutes you are in there.

IsThisOneAvailable · 20/03/2024 20:48

How far down did it get? Can you see it with a torch?

I'd just go in and get it tbf 🤷‍♂️

Though, I think we need a picture of said tunnel to fully assess the safety/likelihood of zombies in there

It's a trap OP. The zombies have grabbed hold of the car to lure you in.

🧠🧟‍♀️

Well I've seen Indiana Jones documentaries where booby traps in mysterious tunnels have set off giant rolling balls and flesh eating bugs.

You'll probably be OK but best not risk it.

Is it possible to get a live image from the GoPro? Then at least we can see how many zombies there might be waiting patiently for someone to come for it

RockHardCake · 20/03/2024 20:56

It went quite some way and then there appeared to be a corner, I sent car around it and then there was a little crash 😂 tried to reverse it but could hear the wheels spinning so it’s clearly got stuck 🤦‍♀️ I’m just going to go in and get it tomorrow, as has been said it’s been there over 100 years by looks of it, I’d have to be bloody unlucky to have it collapse on me now 😂

I had not considered the possibility of booby trapped floors or poisoned darts in the walls. Might not be worth it after all!

Allfur · 20/03/2024 21:02

Could you send in another remote car but this time strap a hook to it to dislodge first car or something

KnickerlessParsons · 20/03/2024 21:29

Fingers crossed you get back out again. Take your mobile phone with you though, when you go in the tunnel, then if you get stuck you can still update us from in the tunnel.

CurtainsOfGrey · 20/03/2024 21:41

Here purely for the updates!

Caerulea · 20/03/2024 21:47

I'm totally with the trap theory! Do update us tomorrow on how it goes with the zombies.

Maybe take some cake with you? Everyone likes cake. Or a Creme Egg.

Ginkypig · 20/03/2024 22:39

Well this is a lovely update 😆

SoupDragon · 20/03/2024 22:44

Why no photos? You can get a decent photo with a smartphone.

Commenting because I now feel invested!
