To think Center Parcs should be ashamed of this

I think it may have been deleted now, but not before Center Parcs hid or deleted comments pointing out the stereotyping and misogyny of this Facebook post...
One comment I saw said mum's not keeping up because of all the shopping, cooking, washing and organising she had to before the family got to sodding Center Parcs in the first place. And she's riding a shite bike they've given her

I fail to see what's wrong with it.

karma3 · 12/03/2024 16:31

There is nothing wrong with this picture

OkPedro · 12/03/2024 16:33

Theres all kinds of wrong with this picture.. exactly like you said op Mum is probably knackered after cleaning the house and packing everyone's bags for center parks and she'll probably have to cook while she's there too!

ThursdayTomorrow · 12/03/2024 16:34

A very common call in our family.

Okthen100 · 12/03/2024 16:34

Are people just offended at EVERYTHING these days?

It would appear so!

Me and my DH are 50/50 everything, work, finances, kids, household. It's where people set their bar surely?

ManchesterGirl2 · 12/03/2024 16:35

I don't see it as sexist, unless there's a pattern of all the jokes being about the mum rather than the dad.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 12/03/2024 16:36

Is it because the child on the left is clearly shouting, "you're all a bunch of cocking arseholes!" at the others?

HelloMiss · 12/03/2024 16:40

The things people start threads about, trying to wind everyone up....

At least it's funny when it falls a bit flat in first few posts 😂

Frozenasarock · 12/03/2024 16:40

Given I suspect Mums are by far the majority of those organising and booking Center Parcs holidays it does seem rather an own goal - I’d seen it and it didn’t exactly make me think “oh yes, I’d really enjoy that moment, must book that”. The woman in the photo is not even lagging behind! The whole advert is a bit naff.

dutysuite · 12/03/2024 16:40

I choose not to be offended. Non story.

Haha yes I think you are right!

Sparklesocks · 12/03/2024 16:40

I think that’s a reach. Maybe if she was pictured carrying all the bags/picnic basket at the same time, but otherwise it’s very innocuous in my eyes. They’re trying to portray familiarity/playfulness of a family to show how fun the park is.

Yes, me too!

AhBiscuits · 12/03/2024 16:42

I love get offended at stuff but this is fucking ridiculous. Nothing wrong with this ad.

Why would you assume that she did all the shopping, cooking, washing and organising? Because she's a woman? Bit sexist no?

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 12/03/2024 16:43

Meh. Not offensive. Just crap. Maybe it offends mums who literally do all the stuff and they feel irritated that they do it even though they should say no?
Or mums who literally can’t keep up because of disabilities but they choose to assume the advert is directly precisely at them?

Poetnojo · 12/03/2024 16:46

Jesus H Christ, some people are just looking for stuff to be offended by.

pontipinemum · 12/03/2024 16:49

It isn't offensive. If anything both children are girls, not very gender balanced is it, can boys not enjoy bike rides anymore

Caerulea · 12/03/2024 16:51

Swimming against the tide here but I do think it's crap 🤷🏼‍♀️. Don't see what's funny about mums being the butt of jokes when it's to do with having fun or being strong etc.

How would you have felt if the person at the back was a Dad? Would that be OK?

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 12/03/2024 16:56

kids always say this even if you are keeping up. Surely it’s more about the kids having endless energy and wanting to do everything at centre parcs- you know trying to allude the excitement of the place- rather than mum can’t keep up.

MushMonster · 12/03/2024 16:58

The father is behind too, so I am taking it as a proud moment when the girls (particularly the little one, who is the one looking back and saying something in the pic) have mastered cycling well enough to tell mum (and dad) to keep up, in a jokey way. I think it was meant as a mum pride moment? It could read "keep up, both of you" and it would be clearer.
I get what you say and I woul agree with you if he was looking back too or clearly ahead of their mother.

ReallyCenterParcs · 12/03/2024 16:58

Hmmm, I'm guessing none of you who think it's okay have had experience of trying to build the confidence of women and girls who would like to be more active?

Many are easily deterred and this kind of stereotyping really doesn't make things better.

And making women the butt of jokes doesn't strike me as great marketing.

This would be us though. In fact you wouldn't even be able to see me. Actually I wouldn't even be on the bike!!
