To think Center Parcs should be ashamed of this

I think it may have been deleted now, but not before Center Parcs hid or deleted comments pointing out the stereotyping and misogyny of this Facebook post...
One comment I saw said mum's not keeping up because of all the shopping, cooking, washing and organising she had to before the family got to sodding Center Parcs in the first place. And she's riding a shite bike they've given her

Hmmm, I'm guessing none of you who think it's okay have had experience of trying to build the confidence of women and girls who would like to be more active?

Many are easily deterred and this kind of stereotyping really doesn't make things better.

And making women the butt of jokes doesn't strike me as great marketing.

This post is more ridiculous than the post starting the thread.

stop looking for things to be offended by and find some enjoyment in your life.

Some posters on here need to get a bit more aware of everyday sexism, especially if they are raising daughters.

MustBeNapTime · 12/03/2024 19:01

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/03/2024 18:42

I wouldn’t call that assumption sexist, just realistic.

How many dads (unless they’re single parents) do all the packing* and organising for family holidays?

*for self and kids, dads should naturally do their own.

My husband! He has researched and organised every single holiday we've had in 23 years. He loves doing all that stuff, I hate it, so I'm happy for him to do the legwork!

He also helps our daughter pack because he's a neater packer than me.

I would also be at the back because I'm dyspraxic and weave about doing twice the mileage of everyone else. I'm always being told to keep up. Doesn't offend me one teeny tiny bit. And neither does this advert.

I am a middle-aged, dyed-in-the-wool feminist but my husband and I are equal partners. I suspect some people are projecting the sadness and inequality in their own relationships on this advert.

Elphamouche · 12/03/2024 19:01

I saw it and thought it was funny. It’s exactly what my family would be saying 😂

i think pp meant compared to how many mums/women!

Surely she's sore from all the bum sex?

No, it's just sexism, plain and simple.

No, it's just sexism, plain and simple.

But WHY is it sexist? Two girls are telling their mum to keep up..? Would you say it was sexist if two boys were telling their dad to keep up? I suspect there wouldn't have been a single complaint in the second scenario.

If women want to be equal then sexism is sexism, no matter which sex we are talking about.

PanadTe · 12/03/2024 19:15

It’s the assumption that a mum is shit on a bike.

I’m faster than dh on a bike.

No it's projection, plains and simple!

Wouldn't be a sexist comment in my house. Would be whomever was at the back of the pack that got the comment!

I'm very aware of everyday sexism, I just don't think this is it. Both of the children are girls. It's a very typical child/parent thing, not a man/woman thing or a boy/girl thing. Children are always running off ahead of their parents, because they're young and excitable. It could just as easily have said "hurry up dad". The mum isn't even behind, she's almost on a level with the dad. If she was lagging way behind and acting exhausted after a two minute ride it would be different.

141mum · 12/03/2024 19:18

Gawd, I have bigger things to worry about

Iwasafool · 12/03/2024 19:18

OkPedro · 12/03/2024 16:33

Theres all kinds of wrong with this picture.. exactly like you said op Mum is probably knackered after cleaning the house and packing everyone's bags for center parks and she'll probably have to cook while she's there too!

Where does it show that?

puzzledout · 12/03/2024 19:19

PanadTe · 12/03/2024 19:15

I'm tons slower 🤷‍♀️

WaterWeasel · 12/03/2024 19:19

It didn't though did it?

Catapultaway · 12/03/2024 19:22

It's really not

WaterWeasel · 12/03/2024 19:23

We shall agree to differ on that then.

ChampagneGold · 12/03/2024 19:24

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen people get offended about 🙄

WaterWeasel · 12/03/2024 19:19

No because dad would've been playing on his phone, wearing the dressing gown of doom, been washing up again because he got it wrong the first time....

It's not like MNs stereotype men is it?

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 12/03/2024 19:30

I'm just relieved to see a relatable typical family for once. It could be the usual tokenism stuff, gay couple one black one white with adopted Asian child.

I'm not sure how clever it is though, I'd look at that and think oh Christ if we go there they will make me cycle with them. I'm not very sporty or active.

SpinyNorma · 12/03/2024 19:31

How do you even know the bloke in the picture is the dad and not some random slowpoke guy the girl bosses are effortlessly gliding by with their superior cycling skills? Seems like some archaic heteronomative presumption to me.

PanadTe · 12/03/2024 19:34

puzzledout · 12/03/2024 19:19

But it’s the assumption that all mums are slower

Tunnocksmallow · 12/03/2024 19:35

If this is all people have to be offended about in their lives, then can I please swap for your charmed life? 🙄

Mocoloco · 12/03/2024 19:37

dutysuite · 12/03/2024 16:40

I choose not to be offended. Non story.

Same.
