To think Center Parcs should be ashamed of this

I think it may have been deleted now, but not before Center Parcs hid or deleted comments pointing out the stereotyping and misogyny of this Facebook post...
One comment I saw said mum's not keeping up because of all the shopping, cooking, washing and organising she had to before the family got to sodding Center Parcs in the first place. And she's riding a shite bike they've given her

Hmmm, I'm guessing none of you who think it's okay have had experience of trying to build the confidence of women and girls who would like to be more active?

Many are easily deterred and this kind of stereotyping really doesn't make things better.

And making women the butt of jokes doesn't strike me as great marketing.

What? Little girls telling their mum to keep up is deterring women and girls from being active?

Caerulea · 12/03/2024 17:05

Okthen100 · 12/03/2024 16:53

How would you have felt if the person at the back was a Dad? Would that be OK?

It wouldn't be though, would it.

sanityisamyth · 12/03/2024 17:07

I saw the comments to this on the CP Facebook page. They're ridiculous. Posting it on here is even more ridiculous.

I'm with you OP. I think CP may have removed the post now (at least I can't see it) and they were deleting some of the negative comments as they were coming through.

Oh my God it gets worse! So showing 3 females out cycling bikes is trying to discourage females from going out to ride bikes?!

And "keep up Mum" is some sort of joke to humiliate the Mum?

I think you're reading far too much into this and seeing stuff that isn't there at all.

No comment about how the family seem to be using the Dad as a cart horse carrying the backpack while the girls are able to ride carefree unhindered 😂

Updownleftandright · 12/03/2024 17:14

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. The dad role in kids programmes or adverts is usually a bit buffoonish, so it's just a switching of roles. The men are always doing the cleaning on ads now, so for the sake of fairness the mum is the butt of jokes now I guess.

Are people just offended at EVERYTHING these days?

Honestly this..

ligh · 12/03/2024 17:17

Does seem a CP has shot themselves in the foot. Mums are usually/typically/generally the ones booking holidays and doing the majority of the mental & physical load of the preparation.
Yes I know..."not in my family" etc etc.
I mean typically. More mothers work part time than fathers and do more than 50% of the childcare/housework/family admin.

So yes, she's more likely to be more physically tired than your average MC white collar dad who very likely doesn't have a physically labouring job.

I don't have an issue with the image, but the slogan was ill advised in my opinion.

ManchesterGirl2 · 12/03/2024 16:35

I don't see it as sexist, unless there's a pattern of all the jokes being about the mum rather than the dad.

Of course it’s sexist. Most ads still show women doing the housework and cooking and now we have to see ads showing women are slower than men and kids.

moonfacer · 12/03/2024 17:19

lala567 · 12/03/2024 17:01

This would be us though. In fact you wouldn't even be able to see me. Actually I wouldn't even be on the bike!!

Edited

Can you not look beyond own situation?

Fucking twats. Probably an all male marketing team.

No, men would never be made fun of in an advert ever no 🤷‍♀️

Swimming against the tide here but I do think it's crap 🤷🏼‍♀️. Don't see what's funny about mums being the butt of jokes when it's to do with having fun or being strong etc.

Yes, I agree. It’s a pathetic advert. Once again, mum isn’t quick enough, let’s laugh at mum …

This isn’t much better than the ‘ this car is so easy to drive even a woman can drive it’ 1950s advertising.

Theres all kinds of wrong with this picture.. exactly like you said op Mum is probably knackered after cleaning the house and packing everyone's bags for center parks and she'll probably have to cook while she's there too!

Lots of projecting going on here

Itisnearlyspring · 12/03/2024 17:23

I read it as Mum is behind because she is enjoying the scenery not becuase she is too knackered to keep up.

GwinGwyn · 12/03/2024 17:24

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 12/03/2024 16:36

Is it because the child on the left is clearly shouting, "you're all a bunch of cocking arseholes!" at the others?

😂I actually thought it was: “I wish I was adopted, you’re all the human equivalent of a participation trophy! Eat my dust!”

Moveoverdarlin · 12/03/2024 17:25

I could not get worked up about this in the slightest.

shellyleppard · 12/03/2024 17:25

Am I missing something???? I can't see anything wrong with it....no extra fingers or missing body bits!!!

I can’t even ride a bike so I wouldn’t be in the photo 😂

Wenttomowameadow · 12/03/2024 17:27

TheTimeIsNowMaybeNow · 12/03/2024 17:27

Mums slowing down so she can fuck off for a vodka when they aren't looking

Poetnojo · 12/03/2024 17:27

moonfacer · 12/03/2024 17:20

So what do you think the Keep up Mum is saying?

I think its saying " keep up Mum" by an excited child, not some veiled insult to women. 🙄

crumblingschools · 12/03/2024 17:30

But would you see an advert saying keep up dad when it comes to a sport/activity? If they had another advert saying that, there wouldn't be a problem, otherwise it is sticking to a stereotype.

Although if you replace one of those girls with MIL then it brings back memories of a trip to CP when MIL asked if there was something wrong with my bike as I was lagging so far behind. No I am just crap on a bike, but not because I am woman/mum.
