To think Center Parcs should be ashamed of this

I think it may have been deleted now, but not before Center Parcs hid or deleted comments pointing out the stereotyping and misogyny of this Facebook post...
One comment I saw said mum's not keeping up because of all the shopping, cooking, washing and organising she had to before the family got to sodding Center Parcs in the first place. And she's riding a shite bike they've given her

@PanadTe how so? It's showing one mum? Not 54324?

Kbroughton · 12/03/2024 19:40

I'm more offended at how much it costs to go to centre parcs. It would be more realistic if both parents had fainted at the cost.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 12/03/2024 19:43

Its NOT saying the mum IS slower

Kids call back "keep up" because they are zooming ahead, excited ACTIVE GIRLS

Same as "Watch this mum"

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/03/2024 19:44

I wouldn’t be at the back on a bike anyway. I’d be shooing them off for a nice loooong bike ride, and curling up on the sofa with a good book and lovely P&Q. 🙂

BirdieBrain2 · 12/03/2024 19:47

I think mum is being the back marker making sure everyone is safely on the track ahead. I would never cycle in front of my child. I wouldn’t see if they fell or wobbled or were lagging behind.

ChampagneGold · 12/03/2024 19:24

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen people get offended about 🙄

Me too!

Usedtobecoolnowiloveairfryers · 12/03/2024 20:02

Center parcs should be ashamed? 😂behave!!!

Ahhhh I still miss the Yorkies advertising line of ‘not for girls’ - snowflakes everywhere though ❄

SpringtimeBunny · 12/03/2024 20:06

Oh for heaven's sake! Do you scour the internet for things to be offended by??? Would you be affronted if it had said "Hurry up Dad!" I'm guessing not

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 12/03/2024 20:08

I cannot imagine ever wanting to spend that amount of money to go to shitty CP.

firm no from me. There is so much more to life than overinflated self catering!

Minniem2020 · 12/03/2024 20:10

Honestly,if this is all people have to worry about then I want their lives.

inamarina · 12/03/2024 20:18

Itisnearlyspring · 12/03/2024 17:23

I read it as Mum is behind because she is enjoying the scenery not becuase she is too knackered to keep up.

This is how I see it. She’s enjoying the scenery and/or is simply relaxed and not in a hurry. And the child seems to be excited to be out and about with her family.
People saying that mum most likely booked and organised the trip, packed everyone’s bags and so on - in the same way one might assume dad was the one who paid for everything, who knows?
Not the most brilliant ad in the world, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it 🤷‍♀️

ReallyCenterParcs · 12/03/2024 16:58

Hmmm, I'm guessing none of you who think it's okay have had experience of trying to build the confidence of women and girls who would like to be more active?

Many are easily deterred and this kind of stereotyping really doesn't make things better.

And making women the butt of jokes doesn't strike me as great marketing.

Thankfully we aren't all as fragile as you seem to think we are xx

serin · 12/03/2024 20:22

Meh, my son is a really good road cyclist, but he was overtaken as he went up a steep hill near us recently, by a young Mum (Laura Kenny nee Trott). 😳. She flew past him.

Go watch Peppa Pig and see some man stereotypes.

Lassiata · 12/03/2024 20:35

I'm with you OP that's offensive bullshit.

Because it’s advertised at mums

Okthen100 · 12/03/2024 16:34

Are people just offended at EVERYTHING these days?

If it had said Keep Up Dad it would have been perfect for the moaners

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 12/03/2024 20:38

The girls are excited that they are ahead of their mum, how is that discouraging girls from sport ?
i don’t see anything wrong with it

Bigpromotion · 12/03/2024 20:43

I’m so glad I was born in the 70’s and remember what it was like to actually have a sense of humour and not to be offended at every bloody single thing.

Never in a million years would I have looked at that ad and caption and seen nothing but a family out having fun. Christ almighty!

Peekingovertheparapet · 12/03/2024 20:44

I thought this was a massive own goal. I’m a road cyclist and it’s such a male dominated sport. Very rarely see other women out and about but see loads of men.

for me the issue is the assumption that mum is automatically slower/less competent at cycling than everyone else, and by extension less sporty, less fun.

it is quite well documented that women as a group are more sensitive to negative messages about their sporting ability, and mothers as a group struggle more than fathers to find time for leisure.

They were also deleting and hiding comments which was disappointing

WandaWonder · 12/03/2024 20:45

Normal rational people can't see anything wrong with it, people with some back drama going on will always find something wrong same as 95% of the threads on here, if some people can suck as drama out of everything as much as possible they will

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 12/03/2024 20:50

That “Keep up mum! - you know that Mumsnet thinks this place is chavvy so we’re pedalling to a bijou little campsite in Belgium where we can swap sexism horror stories with some middle class know-it-alls” moment.

FFS it’s an innocent ad with a happy (advertising land) family with two small daughters. They’re shown having fun, as a family.

samarrange · 12/03/2024 20:53

Breaking: Center Parcs has reissued the ad, but with the man replaced by a woman. They were able to do this quickly as an experienced UK Photoshop specialist has found themselves unexpectedly on the job market as of Monday of this week. This move has calmed the accusations of sexism, but now there is a new Twitter storm as Katie Hopkins and other assorted RWNJ blowhards numerous highly respected commentators claim that the traditional family is under threat. Center Parcs management responded, "This is based on a customer testimonial from two sisters who each brought their daughter to our park last year". As-yet unconfirmed rumours suggest that a further version of the ad is being planned, with one of the girls being mixed-race, but CP executives are said to be worried that this will be taken as a reference to Meghan Markle and this might cause Mumsnet to melt down entirely.

Theres all kinds of wrong with this picture.. exactly like you said op Mum is probably knackered after cleaning the house and packing everyone's bags for center parks and she'll probably have to cook while she's there too!

Wow you got all that from the picture???
