Such a lot of poorly people on this thread. I hope the Spring brings better health to you all!

I thought my cough had gone. I barely went beyond slight frog-in throat level loose mucus for two days, but now the mucus is building up again. After three weeks or so of hacking coughs my ribs are extremely painful so I am not happy at getting a cough again. I dread it getting bad again and hoping it's just leftover gunge finding its way up and out.

In the meantime, my older brother has been in hospital for 7 weeks with pneumonia, so I feel bad complaining about a mere nasty cough.

Tryingtogetitright · 06/03/2024 08:55

Maybe you should go and get checked out TeaAndStrumpets...? in case you need a dose of something to clear it. I hope your brother is recovering.

10 days in I'm feeling much better in myself and chills have finally gone but still have a productive cough.

Sending get well Flowers to all!

Thanks trying, I suppose productive is good! Mucus is perfectly clear so I'll give it a day or so in case it's just a final flourish, then head for the GP if no better.

Poor DB is pretty bad, he went into hospital with pneumonia and UTI, then acquired 2 more infections on the ward. But has Parkinson's so tricky to feed etc. Awful illness.

AndiOliversGlasses · 06/03/2024 10:11

I help off going to doctor as my mucus was not green @TeaAndStrumpets . He said it was definitely an infection. I wish I’d gone sooner.

TeaAndStrumpets · 06/03/2024 10:56

OK thanks! Will have to reconsider.

YuleDragon · 11/03/2024 19:14

still coughing over here, its now been a month...

I did visit the GP, they just shrugged and went 'its viral' and dismissed me, told me to contact the asthma clinic if it was bothering me.. which i have done, and have to wait another week.

I'm unimpressed and fed up of struggling.

Peak flow readings are in the 'controlled' area, but if i DO anything, they drop right down, and i'm fucked for the day.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/03/2024 20:13

I finished the antibiotics and am no better so I suspect yes, it is viral - but it’s totally shite. I have an appointment to be seen in person and have chest listened to etc but the first one was 25 April. I’m a month in now too. 😕

AndiOliversGlasses · 11/03/2024 20:21

Second set of antibiotics prescribed today, plus a preventer inhaler as the doctor reckons that asthma is inhibiting the antibiotic treatment of the infection. She actually said “oh my goodness” when she listened to my chest and said she could hear the wheeze without the stethoscope. I also have a raging sinus one so hopefully these will sort that out too.

Slept most of the afternoon after exertion of doctor visit.

I’m entering week 4 of this.

Stressedafff · 22/03/2024 17:04

My mum got it after we did, got one of the new covid tests as she works in a care home and within about 4 seconds 2 big dark lines came up. It’s definitely a new strain, she’s been coughing for weeks too

Mine lasted 5 weeks! Got costochondritis and every cough or sneeze felt as if my ribs were being torn apart. Eventually saw an osteopath who sorted out most of it and now they are merely uncomfortable rather than agonising. My chest still feels dry and sore but it will hopefully go back to normal eventually.

I am exhausted, have cfs/me and it has been so much worse after the cough.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 30/03/2024 18:58

Since my last post, DH is still coughing despite finishing antibiotics.

Youngest child (6) has been ill and on antibiotics, what seems to have morphed into an ear infection and his hearing is shot. He spent a day sleeping on and off with a temperature over 39...he's much better now but still coughing, deaf and lacking energy. 🙄

I also developed a full blown cold as well, went to sinuses yesterday and today's joy is what seems to be a tummy bug.

I sympathise - I picked up some sort of bug on the 22nd Feb on holiday in Iceland (some women was coughing her guts up) on the tour. Still got it although seems to be waining - finally - brought some 'Covonia' for the chest - expensive but does seem to be working.

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/04/2024 15:57

(If anyone is still reading) Several weeks after the cough finally went, I am still getting an icy sensation in my chest, as if I've had a Fox's Glacier Mint. Also occasionally I am having what I think are adrenaline rushes which make me feel faint. Possibly it's post viral weirdness, but I'll be glad to get back to normal!

YuleDragon · 03/04/2024 16:06

I ended up going back to see my Asthma nurse as it was all over the place even 6 weeks after, had all my inhalers switched to different ones and seems to have sorted that final left over issue!

Six weeks after! Miserable. Glad you are feeling better.

Shortkiwi · 09/04/2024 20:53

I had a bad cold/cough over a month ago, after the bad one over New Year!. Negative to 2 Covid tests. I lost my sense of smell/taste for the first time ever, despite having Covid twice before and it’s still not back. I can’t smell very much. Feeling worried!

daffodilandtulip · 27/02/2024 12:48

I had it for two weeks and have been just about recovered for a week, but the cough is lingering and I still don't have the energy to do much.

Didn't realise I had posted on here over a month ago. Quoting myself to say it doesn't get any bloody better. Still coughing up crap hourly and my energy left months ago.

fromtheshires · 09/04/2024 23:09

Sorry for the graphic post incoming....

I developed a super sore throat two weeks today. That first night I was sweating, shivering and could not get warm despite spiking a fever. I suffer from tonsillitis regularly so assumed it was another bout of tonsillitis.

The following morning despite being a dripping mess and the bed being soaked, my fever had broken. DR's appt made and he was not convinced it was tonsillitis as although really swollen my tonsils were not white but prescribed me antibiotics to take if symptoms got worse.

A couple of days later my sink looked like a scene from trainspotting as i was coughing up so much super sticky glue like dark green phlegm that was not going down the sink as it was just sticking to the porcelain 🤢.

I cashed in the prescription as ive never had so much phlegm with viral infections and my DH not getting any symptoms leading me to beleive it was bacterical and took the course. That week i was just a mess. Every time i coughed which was a lot, chunks of dark green phlegm were just flying out of my chest into my mouth nearly making me sick several times.

It's nowhere near as bad now so im guessing the antibiotics worked at killing the majority of the infection but I still have chesty productive cough.

WillJeSuis · 09/04/2024 23:29

Yes but I also have the runny and simultaneously extremely blocked nose. And nausea. Hating everything at the moment.

Margaritasandmojitos · 10/04/2024 00:51

Yes also shivering, coughing and diarrhea. Also fell and fractured my right humerus last month.

ashitghost · 10/04/2024 01:59

I too am in its grips. Chest, sinuses, hacking cough, whole body aches and earache starting. I’m absolutely sick of it. Haven’t left the house for a week. Every day I wake up my eyelids are stuck shut with gunk and I have to bathe them with warm water to get my eyes to open. It’s a fucking vale of tears.
