It all sounds awful.

I have me/cfs so if I got this I’d be in trouble. I never got covid so I’d hate to get it at this stage.

I’m surprised about the whooping cough.

Also a bit surprised re. Influenza A. What’s the point of having a “flu jab” if you are still then susceptible to flu?

Whooping cough is on the rise again - mine has been confirmed with a blood test. It’s bloody miserable 😭

My was just the doctor saying it sounded like whooping cough - no further testing needed!

It is so strange between coughing fits I just feel a bit run down. But when a coughing attack happens it just doesn’t stop.

How's everyone feeling now? I'm no better and this morning have started coughing... fed up!

DaftFlerken · 28/02/2024 11:16

Thought I was out of the woods yesterday when it was just a plain old sort throat but no, this morning we are back to the extremely painful sore throat with pain shooting into my ears when I swallow. It's now been a week so giving it until tomorrow & then i'll make an attempt at getting a DR's appointment as my asthma was pretty bad last night so it must be triggering it.

Stressedafff · 28/02/2024 12:03

We’re thankfully okay now. Had some awful nightmares last night. It’s so so odd. Hope you’re all feeling much better soon everyone. Here’s to warmer weather and no more bloody plagues

Took my kid to the doctor today as even though fever is now just at night, it's dragging on, hardly eating, so fatigued and sleeping 12-14 hours a day. Got quite a thorough check, but couldn't see anything. Cough started this morning after over a week of fever. Doc has given antibiotics to cover that as a base, but only because fever has gone on so long. Have done several covid tests over the last week which have come up negative. I feel guilty as I didn't directly ask this parent if her kid was unwell - cos still haven't got used to this fucked up attitude of people not cancelling a play date or bloody anything when their kid is sick.

Crunchymum · 28/02/2024 12:11

It hit me last night, seemingly out of nowhere?

I have a dry cough, headache, blocked ears, nausea, unsettled tummy, feel really cold but no temp (my reading is normal), feeling starving one minute and then zero appetite, exhausted but that is down to not sleeping due to coughing.

I have an autoimmune condition which means I am always low level under the weather (aches and pains of the condition and often nausea from the medication I take for a day or two each week) but this is my first proper illness in 18 months?

I have 3 DC - all primary age - and it is just me afflicted at the moment.

DianaBarry5 · 28/02/2024 19:58

Could not struggle into work o e more day.... Dr appointment ...sinus and ear infection with high temperature so was prescribed Penicillin... hope it kicks in soon

coldcallerbaiter · 28/02/2024 20:00

I never get passing colds, but got one and 3 others in my household had it. Had a temperature and very bad sinus pain.

greengreengrass25 · 28/02/2024 20:12

Mine came out of nowhere

Day 3 and feel dreadful and the guilt of not going into work.

Tempted to try tomorrow but not sure if I could cope

TeaAndStrumpets · 28/02/2024 20:47

I have had a nasty cough for about 10 days, together with more snot than I can ever remember having. The worst aspect for me has been the painful ribs and difficulty getting comfortable in bed. I've had costochondritis a few times and it feels similar. Now my cough is just a bit rattly although it seems to get worse in the afternoons/evenings.
Last night I was going crazy tracking down a phantom smell, turns out new style large Kleenex has a slight fragrance added....to me it smells like an old Body Shop gift set. Today everything I eat tastes awful. Had some hummus and it tasted like burnt meat. I did a covid test - negative!

AndiOliversGlasses · 28/02/2024 20:56

I had flu in January. Despite flu jab. I was unable to get out of bed for about 3 days. No appetite, but and cold chills, the lot. Never had it before. Was coughing violently for at least a week after I was up and about. Pelvic floor a bit weak anyway, got used to wetting myself, thank goodness for Tena Lady.

Finally felt myself again some time first week of Feb.

Then about 10 days ago I started to feel a tickle in my throat. Next day throat like knives, then the cough, which triggered my asthma and had me wheezing. Throat really sore for about 4 days, no respite. Oh well, at least I am still able to be upright and function I thought. Then, a full WEEK later the congested head and snotty nose kick in big time, I have to take more time off work as exhausted and now I’m struggling to stay on my feet long enough to cook dinner. Every now and again my nose just completely blocks itself and I have to mouth breathe like some sort of panting dog. WTF is going on? I’m coughing up thick white phlegm but it’s not green, whole abdomen aches from coughing. Still pissing myself. I’ve not been doing more than the minimum parenting for a fortnight now, and don’t want to kiss or cuddle DS and DH in case they get it. (Weirdly, neither has). Fortunately can WFH, in fact we are advised to if have symptoms like these.

I’ve never had a cold which started with a cough and then congestion came a long time afterwards. Covid tests all negative. So fed up. Is it possible the flu fucked up my immune system and made me more vulnerable to the cold? Seems so unfair to have 2 illnesses in succession.

Stressedafff · 29/02/2024 03:21

Have to say whatever this is what we’ve had has to be the weirdest thing. The feeling of having a cold but no sneezing or runny nose? Just so odd. I’d rather have the traditional colds

Im wondering if PP’s were right and it is Covid

Tryingtogetitright · 29/02/2024 07:18

I think it might be covid. I didn't have any snot/gunk for the first two days just felt exhausted and so ill. Yesterday I started coughing up phlegm - still no snot. This morning it's a few blood stained bogies and more phlegm (sorry to be so gross!). The coughing fits make me dizzy and lightheaded, but in between them I feel better than I did earlier in the week. I've cancelled my clubbing on Saturday - gutted - I was so looking forward to it. And I'm just hoping I haven't passed this on to the elderly relatives I saw last weekend.

Flowers for everyone that's feeling rough, hope we're all better soon.

MarkWithaC · 29/02/2024 09:02

I read recently that cold viruses are adapting to mimic Covid – or maybe Covid is adapting to mimic cold viruses, I can't quite remember!

DaftFlerken · 29/02/2024 09:43

agree, it has been very strange. The most awful sort throat & general grottiness for just over a week & this morning the joyous stuffed up nose has come to join the party.

TeaAndStrumpets · 29/02/2024 09:48

How interesting that this virus seems to be attacking the lungs first. I didn't start with the snot for a good week after first starting to cough. Now the snot is dying down but I still have a very sore rattly chest. So sick of it.

That is exactly me. It’s so odd and depressing.

BeckyWithTheGoodBear · 29/02/2024 10:19

I had a terrible bug a few weeks ago. It felt like siniuistus to begin with but then turned into nausea loss of appetite etc. I developed post viral arthritis after it which has never happened to me before. Thankfully that only lasted 4 days as I was in agony with my joints.

Here's to better weather and no more sickness!!

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 29/02/2024 10:38

I’m on day 8 of this. I tested positive for Covid on day 1 but now negative. Main symptoms awful fits of coughing (needs to be on the loo) and a red raw sore throat. I thought I felt better Monday but then the cough and throat really kicked in. I’ve had fevers of 102 and am so tired I can’t stop falling asleep. I’ve gone onto antibiotics for the cough (dark green phlegm) but they don’t seem to have really done much. Any advice, I am so done with it.

Oh I know! I think the worst bit is trying to keep hopeful that it will go one day.

The snot is quite remarkable, in a disgusting sort of way. It reminds me of when my girls were toddlers and it just poured out like candle wax....I was forever chasing them with hankies, poor little mites!

ViciousCurrentBun · 29/02/2024 10:54

I didn’t have to go to hospital fortunately as I have managed to hold fluids down just been sick twice a little bit since I last posted as previously had been vomiting so much I couldn’t keep even water down.

Struggling to eat much so DH went and bought some ice cream and I have had a couple cups of bovril. I’m bad at taking tablets as have a pronounced gag reflex plus throat is raw. Nurse suggested I cut my antibiotic in half and mix the powder with a little yogurt. I also can’t cope with lemsip as throat so raw so have been taking calpol. You need 10 to 20 ML as an adult and it’s expensive but lemsip lemon just hurt too much. I also find sitting in the shower helpful on a little step stool I have. Shut the doors and windows and get the steam levels up.

greengreengrass25 · 29/02/2024 10:58

I attempted to test for COVID but all the tiny solution vials had dried up

Shame someone couldn't market it separately as all the tests are useless without it and it's such a waste

I feel flueish, nose blocked but no snot, sore throat. No energy to do anything

AlecTrevelyan006 · 29/02/2024 10:59

Yes

Seagrassbasket · 29/02/2024 11:11

It’ll be two weeks tomorrow that I came down with it and still not right. After 5 days of temps went to the GP who said flu, but I am wondering if it’s whooping cough as I’m identifying with the previous posters who are weeing themselves they’re coughing so hard! Also now the new symptom is a really sore mouth and tongue.
