We had it. My DH had to go to hospital as blood oxygen was dropping. He has bad asthma. They did tests and confirmed it as Influenza A. It took weeks to get better and we had the flu jab.

rockingbird · 26/02/2024 16:59

Oh Lordy.. we've all had it and today is the first time in three weeks I've been able to actually feel half normal. 🥴 kids off school all week last week! We were pretty much bed bound at one point. Not very nice at all.

Stressedafff · 26/02/2024 17:10

Thankfully I don’t think we have flu. DD recovered in 48 hours and is completely fine now. I do feel abit better than I did this morning

I've got a tired, throaty cold with blocked ears and runny nose and it's COVID according to the test I took this weekend. Not feverish as far as i can tell (though some pretty intense dreams) but hard to say as I've been having serious perimenopause sweats on and off at night for the last month! Teenager seemed to have same symptoms last week but is mostly Ok other than slight residual cough after 4-5 days.

FancyJapflack · 26/02/2024 17:19

Yep. Turned out to be Covid - my first positive test. I’m over the worst but I’ve been left with the most horrible cough. I’ve actually coughed to the point of retching. Nothing much coming up though.

TheMousePipes · 26/02/2024 17:20

We’ve had this - I had three weeks of cough, snot, headaches, fatigue, poor sleep chest infection etc. Thought I’d shaken it and then on Friday it got started fro another go. I feel like shit, everything hurts and if I don’t get a decent nights sleep soon I may just sit down and cry.

TheWorldKickedBack · 26/02/2024 18:27

I am still recovering from flu over a week later. Started last Friday and this Sunday just gone was the first day for me without a temperature. I have been left with a horrible nauseous feeling which reminds me of morning sickness. I just can't shake it off. I've never felt so ill in my life

maddiemookins16mum · 26/02/2024 18:55

My neighbour, Practice Nurse at local surgery, says there has been an increase in Whooping Cough (for all age groups).

MarkWithaC · 26/02/2024 18:59

No headache or fever for me, but fatigue, sore throat, aching and spaced out. Also a runny nose, sneezing and dry cough.
DP has had similar and been coughing for ages.

ViciousCurrentBun · 26/02/2024 19:47

What do you do for whooping cough ?

I have one small bit of cheer, I was having a bit if a fever dream and I was eating bread in it. Woke up to find myself chewing a used tissue!

Omg I shouldn’t laugh 😂

I feel fine once I’ve had paracetamol but once the fever spikes again I feel dead heady! No appetite either and I’ve not ate properly since Friday so everything I do eat goes through me 🥴

Yes, lasted two weeks and went through everyone in the house.

JustDiscoveredBueno · 26/02/2024 23:13

DD has something weird at the moment. Picked it up from a friend (was giving friend the heads up when she got ill, which is when clearly needs to learn what a friendship is friend told her she'd already had it all week and still did when she met up with DD). She has no cold symptoms, has loss of appetite, ok for a few hours in morning, very very fatigued, sleeping 12-14 hours a day, temperature only at night. Been about a week so far.

Otterhaven · 26/02/2024 23:33

Yes. Since having COVID (three times) I seem to be ill every five weeks or so. I had rotten headaches and a sore throat three weeks ago and the fatigue was awful. I seemed to get better after four days then the sinus pain and blocked ears started a few days later. Bizarrely, I am also now suffering from awful acid reflux too. Has anyone else had this with their cold? It is awful. These viruses seem to be getting stronger and are far more resilient. I hope you feel.better soon OP. X

healthadvice123 · 26/02/2024 23:35

Yes have had something similar lasted about 5 days and went back to work for 2 days then it was back , real sore throat this time , achy body , Extreme tiredness but stuffy nose but not runny or like a cold

healthadvice123 · 26/02/2024 23:37

@Otterhaven thats exactly how mine was thoUght i was better then extreme sore throat and last few days sinus pain on one side , so exhausted despite sleeping a lot

healthadvice123 · 26/02/2024 23:39

Tested a few times throughout for covid and all negative
but i do seem to pick up so much more now , and have had covid 4 times

bellamountain · 26/02/2024 23:45

Yes feel absolutely rough, terrible headaches right in centre of the skull and across forehead (just will not shift), having to take my migraine meds. Freezing cold, very sensitive skin like sunburn, tiredness, extreme brain fog, hacking cough has started now too. It seems everyone has similar symptoms at the moment and affecting adults more than kids!

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 26/02/2024 23:45

I’ve had it. Took about 3 weeks to get better and still feel shattered. The coughing was horrible and I still have back pain from strained muscles trying to get ‘behind’ it.

Stressedafff · 26/02/2024 23:55

I feel okay tonight! Just a damn sore throat! No fever but that could be the paracetamol/ibuprofen. I’m wondering actually if I’ve got the makings of tonsillitis as my throat is blood red sore and swollen so that’s something to keep an eye on!

My DD had this in 2022 I think, turned out to be slapped cheek in the end! Has she had that already?

Yes, turned out to be whooping cough. Started out looking like a bad “cold” then the cough developed.

Whooping cough for me too - been ill for about a month. Coughing so violently I’m either vomiting or struggling to breathe 😢. It’s absolutely horrendous. Apparently the cough lasts 2 or 3 months 😩

JustDiscoveredBueno · 27/02/2024 00:36

@Stressedafff thank you. She hasn't had that - cheeks not red and no rashes. Exhaustion and headache seem main symptoms. Person that passed it on had same symptoms but also vomiting on intermittent days. Apparently kids missed out on so much in lockdown that it's fine to spread whatever you like now (as long as their precious kid doesn't have to miss a sodding play date). It's one thing to spread things unknowingly, but this bollocks attitude by some since lockdown of deliberately hurting other people in the name of being social is just so shitty.

ViciousCurrentBun · 26/02/2024 10:16

I have felt like total shit for 2 days, awful hacking wet cough and achey. I have coughed so much my ribs hurt. Now appear to have free flowing snot. Also knackered behind belief.

It started with just a tickle small cough four days ago.

I hate taking meds but I have taken the max amount I can which is unusual for me. I’m starting to feel quite tearful.

@ViciousCurrentBun

i had to keep a dose back for bedtime & a dose back for bedtime. It doesn't leave much for the daytime, but I found alternating nurofen & panadol (rather than both at one time) helped.

im finally on the mend, but any change in temperature sets the coughing off again.

off to pharmacy for another bottle of chesty cough syrup

@Stressedafff I have a sibling of yours. I had the blocked nose, followed by the streaming nose! It's getting better though. I think it's going to take a while to go completely, but it's not as bad as it was a couple of days ago.

i hope yours starts to get better soon.

Onand · 27/02/2024 00:51

It’s Covid OP. Loads at work had it recently- some quite rough with it too. Hope you’re better soon.
