First CMS payment, new partner wants most of it

Getting a lump cms payment soon, first one for over 5 years!
Told DP of 7 years and hes asked for a majority of it, saying he needs to pay off debts as he's the only one with a CC and has kept me and DS supported for years ect.
I'm unwilling to help with the debts as our relationship is rocky and he constantly threatens to leave. I have had no say in the majority of things that went on the cc.
So
YABU help pay off a chunk of debts

YANBU You've waited 5 years for a payment from ex, don't give it to another man

No!!! Don’t even think about it that money is for your child, the fact he’s asked this is down right disgusting he should be bloody ashamed of himself!!

it’s for your child only.

audweb · 13/02/2024 17:25

That’s for your kid, not for your ex to pay off debts especially if you had no choice as to him taking those debts out.

noseposey · 13/02/2024 17:26

That would be a hard no from me. Did you ask him to use debt to support you?

Backoro · 13/02/2024 17:26

he constantly threatens to leave.
wish him well and goodbye then.

do not pay off the debts of dp, if you had no say in the majority was it things he wanted rather than the kids for the most part?

MagpiePi · 13/02/2024 17:26

Hard no.

Throckmorton · 13/02/2024 17:26

Keep the money and ditch the "partner"!

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 13/02/2024 17:26

Naah, keep the cash, bin him

socks1107 · 13/02/2024 17:27

That's for your child not him. If you haven't spent on the cc you owe him nothing

Pheeeeebs · 13/02/2024 17:27

Trust in yourself !
Look at your child and remember this money for them.
Bin the blood sucker and use the money to set up a new place for yourself and your child.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/02/2024 17:27

When you say he has supported you for years, how much are we talking about? And how much is the payment likely to be?

WhyArePiratesCalledPiratessss · 13/02/2024 17:27

Nope.
No
Not a chance.
Do not pass go
Do not hand over the money
No.
Not at all.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 13/02/2024 17:28

Has he supported you?

Pheeeeebs · 13/02/2024 17:28

Even if, if you had spent on the cc the money is for your child

Rangelife · 13/02/2024 17:28

You didn't need to write this post. YANeverBU to pick your child's financial stability over a boyfriends.

Psychoticbreak · 13/02/2024 17:28

That money is your childs. Kick him out.

MoroccoMole · 13/02/2024 17:29

Has he financially supported your child?

EVHead · 13/02/2024 17:29

Fuck me no! It’s for your child.

MILTOBE · 13/02/2024 17:29

OK I've voted YANB because it's money for your child, but is what he's saying true, that he's kept you and your child all this time? What contributions have you been making? Forget his debts for now - have you been paying your fair share all this time?

Viewfrommyhouse · 13/02/2024 17:29

Let him carry out his threat and leave. Grabby wanker.

Candleabra · 13/02/2024 17:30

Ummm do you even have to ask? Keep the money and lose the boyfriend.

Mnetcurious · 13/02/2024 17:31

No, no and thrice no! (Especially as the relationship is rocky, but even if it wasn’t it’s meant for the cost of bringing up your child). If he threatens to leave then let him!

SheepAndSword · 13/02/2024 17:31

What did he get into debt for?

MajesticWhine · 13/02/2024 17:31

On the face of it, it's a no. But to what extent has he been paying for you and your DC. And have you previously encouraged him to pay for your DC and you promised you'll pay him back?

KreedKafer · 13/02/2024 17:32

So you got rid of one god-awful waster and then started up a relationship with another one, basically.

Dump your new boyfriend; he's as bad as the old one. Choose more carefully in future.

Hipp0campus · 13/02/2024 17:34

Ok so to answer some previous questions, I have worked awkward jobs and always done school runs, also have another dc with him, who is disabled so I handle all of the extra bits that come along with that, I no longer work at the moment after struggling to do nights and not sleep for 28 hour periods, I claim carers for our disabled dc and we get uc as a top up.
When times were tougher we put food shops and uniform on the cc, had to put a new TV on it as dc broke ours.
When cc hit limit I took over meal planning, budgeting etc. I keep us afloat on benefits and he pays off about £300 a month towards debt repayments.
