Tipping hairdressers

How much do you tip for a cut and blow dry? Standard cut/ trim, nothing fancy done, not going from very long to very short, no fringe or particular style etc. Hair isn’t thick, curly or difficult to manage

I don't tip! I feel bad for this but the cut and blow dry is expensive enough.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 10/02/2024 16:25

Min 20% of the service

Chickenkeev · 10/02/2024 16:25

A fiver

ConsuelaHammock · 10/02/2024 16:25

I don’t.

Shf · 10/02/2024 16:26

I only tip at Christmas. And once recently when the hairdresser went above and beyond and took ages to give teen DD a really cool new cut.

Tinkerbyebye · 10/02/2024 16:26

Nothing

Repts · 10/02/2024 16:27

I round up to the nearest £5/£10 - so if it's £22, I'd give £25 and if it's £27, I'd give £30. Tricky one if it's dead £20 / £25 though! But normally a couple of £ - like PP said, it's expensive enough, so I'd only give extra if I could afford it to be completely honest!

MaryActsLikeSheDontCare · 10/02/2024 16:27

I only tip at Christmas

Kalevala · 10/02/2024 16:27

Nothing, the price is the price

Do you? Gosh I do nothing near that amount. 😦

Are you a hairdresser? 😆

JMSA · 10/02/2024 16:29

Nothing if I've paid full price.

A generous tip if it's a model cut or whatever.

IggOrEgg · 10/02/2024 16:30

I don’t tip. She’s a talented professional and I’m not going to patronise her by basically saying she doesn’t charge enough.

NalafromtheLionKing · 10/02/2024 16:30

£5 plus £2 for whoever washes it.

mondaytosunday · 10/02/2024 16:30

About 10%, rounded up. Also give a couple quid to the girl who washes it.

Maireas · 10/02/2024 16:30

Nothing.
I pay £75 for a cut and blow dry. That's the price, it's plenty.

Bax765 · 10/02/2024 16:31

I've never tipped my hairdresser.

ShillyShallySherbet · 10/02/2024 16:31

I don’t tip, I just pay what it cost via card. I hope that’s not insulting to her but it would feel weird to pay and then hand over extra money as a tip. My hairdresser is the owner of the business so she’s decided what to charge and hopefully she’s worked out the amount she charges to cover the costs and give herself a decent wage. If not then I’d be happy for her to charge me more.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/02/2024 16:31

I tip at Christmas, otherwise I pay the advertised price like I do everywhere else - shops, tradesmen, petrol stations, cinema etc. I can’t remember the last time I ate in a restaurant so tipping there isn’t relevant to me

MixingPlaydough · 10/02/2024 16:32

Nothing at all. Why would she need tipping, she's doing a job the same as everyone else.

marshmallowfinder · 10/02/2024 16:32

Nothing. Why would you? It's a set price for what you're having done. Tipping is a real pain. Unspoken rules, done covertly, how do you know how much to give...I don't bother any more.

Spaceracers · 10/02/2024 16:32

Feeling less bad about not tipping now!

It's £80 here and I pay by card.

peakygold · 10/02/2024 16:33

My stylist always bangs on about how skint she is, how crappy her car is, how she needs a holiday etc. so, I always tip a fiver for a £55 cut & blow dry. Then yesterday I saw her Facebook page for the first time, and it was full of holiday pictures, theatre trips, meals out, shopping expeditions. No more tips from me!

marshmallowfinder · 10/02/2024 16:33

Also why the fuck does someone who washes it get a tip? It's their job. I work in a shop and no one tips us.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/02/2024 16:35

I tip about 10 - 15%. Which is quite a lot as my hair costs a lot, even for a cut & blowdry, and colour is 💶💶💶

I do it because it's the norm among people I know; I like my hairdresser & I suppose it also helps ensure she gives me a good service, fits me in etc.
