Tipping hairdressers

How much do you tip for a cut and blow dry? Standard cut/ trim, nothing fancy done, not going from very long to very short, no fringe or particular style etc. Hair isn’t thick, curly or difficult to manage

I don't tip. I get colour and a cut every 7 weeks. It costs a lot. The price I am charged is enough.

Princesspollyyy · 11/02/2024 13:32

@ShinyBandana

How bizarre?! I would hate that lol. Isn't the salon heated properly? Surely when they blow dry you'd just feel really hot? 😂

tiredmama23 · 11/02/2024 13:46

Nothing. I pay the price that my hairdresser sets, which is already £90-100 for what I have done.

Never understood the tipping thing. Where do you draw the line? People who tip their hairdressers, do you also tip your postman when he delivers your parcels? The cashier in Tesco who serves you? Your kids' childminder / nursery staff? The guy who services your car? The nurse who takes your bloods at the GP?

I could go on. You need to draw a line somewhere. The price is the price 🤷‍♀️

I only ever tip for exceptional service, but definitely not as a standard.

In any case, my hairdresser usually charges me more anyway for having thick hair so not gonna tip her on top of paying a premium for my genetics!

DorisFlies · 11/02/2024 14:09

£5 after a cut and blow dry

ShinyBandana · 11/02/2024 13:19

lol, well I suppose it could be for period pain

…but it’s a general comfort thing. I’ve never come across this anywhere else before. It’s a v cosy part of the whole experience

Doesn't it make you overheat/sweat?

No ☺️
But I don’t have a hottie in the summer ! But I find it cosy and comforting in the colder months. It makes me feel looked after

Politekitty · 11/02/2024 18:01

20%. !!! That would equate a tip that I would pay every 6 weeks of £18 !??? Never ! Ad mentioned previously are you a hairdresser 😂

DerekFaker · 11/02/2024 18:12

I have never tipped. I didn't even realise it was a thing until I read about it on here 😳

is this a regional thing? liverpool here and i don’t know a single person who doesn’t tip the likes of hairdressers, nail technicians etc

I always do 10%

I love it when people say this with such conviction about such random topics. It makes me think other people have completely different ideas about what constitutes an interesting social interaction than me.

I mean, how often does this come up in conversation for you to know?
I can't remember the last time I had a conversation about going to the hairdressers or nail technicians with my family/friends/colleagues etc, (that is anything above and beyond 'Have you had your hair done? Looks nice!') let alone drilling down into the nitty gritty of how much of a tip they left?

I couldn't tell you whether my own sister tips her hairdresser, let alone make a definitive judgement on everyone I know!

sunflowerpinks · 11/02/2024 20:33

They're probably hairdressers Grin

FluffyRabbitGal · 11/02/2024 20:43

My hair sits on the band of my bra and I pay £45 for my hair to be washed, tidied up, dried and straightened. I don’t tip as I think that’s plenty.

20% of full-time workers are on under £24.5k. I wonder how many are in tipped jobs?

I’m not!
